ZooeyModeratorExcept for ARZ they were winning close games.
Yes, and what I noticed re-watching them is that the Rams had the upper hand in the Bucs and 9ers games, but mistakes made those games closer than they should have been. The Bucs game took a parade of errors (2 Cam fumbles, a Kupp fumble, and a missed snap, all recovered by TB) to get them back into it. In the SF game, the Rams were dominating the ball, drove the length of the field, and had a deflected pass INT in the end zone. That was tighter than the Bucs game (which was really a blowout).
The Super Bowl had the famous OPI that got CIN their only 2nd half play, and the Rams were without Woods, OBJ, Higbee, Mundt, and Blanton, and Akers was not 100%. They had Stafford and Kupp left.
I think SF was the only team that really played them close. The other 2 games were close because of inexplicable flukes and injuries.
ZooeyModeratorThe Rams signed Bobby Wagner and are *still* spending less at LB than every NFL team
Here's where the Rams rank in 2022 spending at each position compared to the rest of the league https://t.co/9LuaWhLYdl

ZooeyModeratorAnother update about OBJ and the @RamsNFL:
“Both sides expect Odell to be back with the team before the season. He wants to wear #13 which is currently taken, but provided he signs a deal before the season, it’s his number and Wolford is on-board with giving it up.”

ZooeyModeratorThat 27th ranking is just what you would expect after extending so many stars. A bunch of teams will have to give extensions and FA signings over the next couple of years, and they will leapfrog where the Rams are right now. Besides, the Rams are in their window for championships. Their future is now and the next 3 years or so.
ZooeyModeratorI, once again, watched zero minutes of college basketball this year.
All I can say is that these 3 guys drafted first don’t look like they know how to shave.

ZooeyModeratorWe knew that as soon as it was confirmed as an ACL.

ZooeyModeratorTwo moments in #Rams history, 22 years apart that happened to look very much the same. Kupp and Bruce making that final cut & turning on the burners is cinematic excellence.

ZooeyModeratorI am a fair weather basketball fan, so I don’t watch it a lot. I’m a Lakers fan, though, so I watch it more than you do.
I don’t think I have ever seen Steph Curry play, but apparently he is good. I did not want the Warriors to win, but I hate the Celtics more. If I could have eliminated one team from each conference, I would have eliminated the two of them. They both made the finals. At that point, I had to side with the Warriors because I hate the Celtics.
I did not see one single minute of the entire basketball season. I did, however, check my phone 5 or 6 times last night to track the score.
Anything else you want to know about the NBA?
ZooeyModeratorGurley would have been there if not for his knees. I would put Jerome Bettis above Gurley.

ZooeyModeratorI agree about the 9ers. I think the Cowboys and Eagles have more to prove than the 9ers do. And of all of the top teams mentioned, I think the Packers are the only team that clearly got worse. I think doubts about Trey Lance prevent me from ranking them #1, but I don’t think I would place them lower than #3.
I dislike rankings anyway, and tend to think in “tiers,” but I would put SF in the top tier of teams.
ZooeyModeratorWell, here’s a different point of view on that.
THREAD. There is a very revealing thing at the heart of the flood of elite media "think pieces" about the San Francisco DA election. If you get past the flowery writing, what's going on is a pretty fascinating fraud. pic.twitter.com/KrkYbBg9ka

ZooeyModeratorI dont like hearing that cash-rich football owners have an advantage. Even if its a slight advantage. Shouldnt be that way. I hope the NFL doesnt drift towards the travesty that MLB became. w v
Maybe the comparatively “poor” owners should just get a second job.
Seriously, though. They can just cut out going to Starbucks every day, and ease up on the avocado toast.
ZooeyModeratorYes, that’s the best article on the Rams in quite a while. Commentary on the Rams usually does not reflect any in depth understanding of the team, and that one does. Good work.

ZooeyModeratorTHREAD. Sometimes the bias of the New York Times is so outrageous that it surprises even me. Because what the NYT did yesterday in its election coverage is so dangerous, I try my best to analyze it carefully below.

ZooeyModeratorI don’t expect anything from these hearings other than standard-issue talking points.
ZooeyModeratorRanking the Greatest Defensive Players
5. Aaron Donald
Donald has only played eight seasons, yet it’s fair to rank him as one of the greatest defensive players ever. Donald already has three Defensive Player of the Year awards, tying him with J.J. Watt and Lawrence Taylor for the most in NFL history. He has made the Pro Bowl in all of his eight seasons, trailing Taylor and Derrick Thomas for the most consecutive Pro Bowls to start a career.
Donald has 98 sacks in his career, the most for a defensive tackle after his first eight seasons in NFL history (and fourth-most by any player). His 150 tackles for loss and 226 quarterback hits in his first eight seasons are second-most by a player in NFL history (and most for a defensive tackle). He also has seven first-team All-Pro selections in eight seasons and is the only player in the NFL with 400 pressures over the last five years.
A top-five finisher in NFL Defensive Player of the Year voting seven consecutive seasons, Donald also already has a Super Bowl championship — along with 6.5 sacks and 17 quarterback hits in 10 postseason games.
Donald is arguably the greatest defensive tackle in league history, transforming the position, and he still has time to become the greatest defensive player ever.

ZooeyModeratorThe Rams had the significant Good Fortune to draft Aaron Donald at #13. They didn’t just get a standard-issue Hall of Fame great player. They got one of the best players who ever lived in a position to affect every down. Run or pass, Donald is a factor. That makes him more important than Jalen Ramsey. Donald is SO dominant that the Bengals changed their offensive strategy away from their strength as an offense, away from the very thing that got them to the Super Bowl in the first place. Donald is SO good that he wrecked the Bengals before anybody even arrived at the stadium. So that’s just Good Fortune, and you can’t count on the Rams doing that again.
But what we can count on, imo, is that the Rams will continue to make all the other decisions that got a lot of blue chip and red chip players into the squad. Drafting, UDFA, trades, and FA. They even have had the wisdom to let some very good players go when they had opportunities that created value. Remember this is a team that traded Quinn and Woods. They parted ways with Talib, Peters, Watkins, Suh, T. Johnson, EJ Gaines, J. Johnson, Ogletree, and so on. My point is that the Rams have churned the roster in addition to drafting well. They’ve clearly got a handle on drafting late, and maximizing compensatory picks, and putting the right pieces together. The track record of roster building has been consistently good for long enough that we know they didn’t just get lucky. They maybe got a little “lucky” with Donald. But the rest of the wheeling and dealing has just been consistently good. At this point, they have earned my trust. I think they can keep that window open quite a while. (I don’t understand the Robinson over Woods move, but I have a feeling I will understand it by Week 10).
Looks to me like these guys know what they are doing.
ZooeyModeratorThat was the least eventful and most predictable holdout in the history of the NFL.
ZooeyModeratorTHREAD. Today, the New York Times published one of its most dishonest, biased, and dangerous pro-police articles that I have ever read. What's happening at the NYT is important, so I try my best to explain below why it’s so harmful.
