— Kyren Williams takes pride in his ability to impact the game on all three fronts that a running back should: Running, receiving and blocking. Despite maintaining that philosophy, the Rams running back decided to attack the offseason – before and during training camp – differently than how he has in the past.

“I would do a lot of receiver workouts and do a lot of different things because I want to be as versatile as I can, but this year I honed in on really training to be a running back,” Williams said on Saturday at Rams Training Camp presented by CommunityAmerica Credit Union at LMU.

“For me, as a running back, I want to practice continuing (to have) my pad level low,” Williams said. “When contact arrives, I drive my feet so I can come out of the tackles and create those learning reps so when the game comes, it’s natural, it’s easy, and that’s something I’ve been doing since the beginning of camp and even before then. To me, it’s creating those little habits and details that allow us all to be successful.”

Despite the level of consistency each of the last three years, Williams feels like there a new level he can reach in the running game while continuing to build his receiving resume.

Davante Adams said rookie CJ Daniels approached him before the break between the offseason program and training camp and asked him what he thought Daniels needed to work on.

“We talked about a couple of small things,” Adams said. “I had seen a lot of good stuff from him during the offseason program, and he came back and did exactly those things.”

Jaylen Watson and Trent McDuffie know what it’s like to face a top-tier quarterback every day in practice. They started their careers alongside Patrick Mahomes on the Kansas City Chiefs and now get to play with the reigning MVP, Matthew Stafford.

Stafford has some of the best arm talent the NFL has ever seen, and Watson paid him a huge compliment on social media Tuesday after giving up a touchdown to Davante Adams in practice the day before. Watson said he’s never seen a quarterback throw it like Stafford, which naturally riled up Chiefs fans who took it as him shading Mahomes.

Below is Watson’s post, as well as the ridiculous throw made by Stafford to Adams on Monday.

Us chiefs fans need to chill. Stafford is a dawg, and is probably better and placing a ball than Mahomes. Doesn’t make him a better qb but Stafford has ELITE ball placement

Amazing play by Davante. He literally never gave you an indication with his hands until last minute. Most receivers would be putting their hands up way early which indicates to you to put your hands up or turn around.

Whittington looks to be the favorite at WR3, though his skill set is more specialized than someone like Mumpfield. Whittington is a good blocker, a quality ball carrier and is tough as nails. Mumpfield, meanwhile, is a more traditional wide receiver who can sub in and play on the outside when Nacua or Adams comes off the field.

9. Kobie Turner, Los Angeles Rams

Turner has developed into a really strong pass-rusher from the defensive interior, and is still just 27 years old. He has totalled 50, 62 and 69 pressures in each of the past three seasons, respectively, and set a career-high with an 83.9 PFF pass-rush grade last year. He’s been solid against the run too, with a PFF run-defense grade above 66.0 in each of those three seasons.

16. Poona Ford, Los Angeles Rams

Ford has enjoyed a late career breakout and has impressed over the past two seasons, first with the Los Angeles Chargers and then the Los Angeles Rams. A strong run defender with PFF run-defense grades of 80.3 and 78.6 in each of the past two seasons, he is also a solid pass-rusher, accumulating 34 total pressures from 342 pass-rushing snaps last season.

Adams never got the chance to catch passes from Stafford during last year’s training camp because Stafford was sidelined with a back injury. There were flashes of that connection’s potential early in the regular season, but they were just that – fleeting – until Week 7 became the match hitting the strike pad and sparking, with Adams finishing as the NFL’s regular season leader in touchdowns with 14.

This year, Stafford has had a modified practice schedule with two days on and two days off in the Rams’ four-day practice blocks, but the difference in getting those reps prior to the start of the regular season has been noticeable.

“We’re getting a whole different start than what we did last year,” Adams said on Aug. 2. “I think we put together a pretty good product last season, but any time you can have these grinding days where you come out here, play ball and lock in on the details, that’ll help you be in a much better position when it’s time to really go.”
