Yeast really rose to the occasion through the preseason. Coaches felt he got breader and breader each week, while many rookies would crumble under the pressure. They’ll knead him on special teams sooner than later, too.

    jourdan’s odd. funny but odd.

also excited for mccutcheon and hummel and thomas.

Sean McVay calls Brycen Hopkins “clearly our No.2” tight end. Deserved after the spring and summer he had.

    very cool.

and i’m excited for mccutcheon as well.

and you can’t forget warner to bruce in the superbowl either as far as that 99 season goes. with kearse i think it was bearing down on him as he threw the ball.

    also very good points…

there was a lot more pressure on stafford than warner.

and warner was surrounded by hall of fame talent on offense.

and i might be conflating warner’s season with the rams’ season as a whole. they went from zero to hero in one season. dv’s last hurrah. etc…

but also qbs were not protected like they are now. imagine what warner could have done in today’s league. he probably would have finished his career as a ram in today’s nfl.

as great as stafford’s season was he only ranked sixth in qb rating. warner led the league that 99 season. although yes. that rams’ offense caught everyone by surprise. and he was surrounded by hof talent. and while that schedule was weak, warner had to beat what was in my opinion one of the all time great defenses in the tb bucs. and they were so far ahead of their time. so far ahead of everyone else it seemed surreal.

i might look back on the 21 season differently depending on how these next few years go. i think part of what is coloring that 99 season is what happened in 00 and 01. some of the most ridiculous video game type football i had ever seen.

that 00 season before warner got hurt and the 01 season. if they caught the league by surprise in 99 they still couldn’t catch up to them those two years. although yes. belichick did get them in the superbowl.

but it is close. as the years go by i might actually be convinced that stafford’s season was better.

Well for me, what Stafford did in the 4th quarter during the post-season run, is equal (or surpasses) what Kurt did.

ok.  i forgot about those fourth quarters…

    it definitely makes it closer…

it doesn’t surpass warner’s 1999 season, but it might be on par with it.

i definitely think he can have the better career with the rams.  he’s under contract until 2026, and i don’t see any reason why he can’t keep up that caliber of play.  especially with all the rules to protect the qbs.  and if we’re lucky, he can play even beyond 2026.

and i agree.  it would have been nice to see warner finish as a ram.

Stafford made the no-look pass in the clutch.

i don’t know much about gabriel.  before my time.  but that throw.  and that drive.  just amazing.  still doesn’t top warner’s 1999 season.  taken as a whole.

but that drive and that throw was definitely a moment that equaled warner to proehl.  or warner to bruce.

i wanna see stafford put together some more seasons for the rams.  doesn’t necessarily have to end with a superbowl.  but he could be the best of them.

well skowronek didn’t play either and coaches are talking about him being that third wr game 1 with van possibly out…

it’s gonna be hard for mccutcheon to make it. maybe powell is odd man out. if atwell can be the returner.

I don’t see Skowronek or Tutu as locks. I guess Powell is, and you can call him a WR if you want, but his job is to catch the ball and not trip over his own feet. He’s replaceable, and he’s only on the Rams because neither Tutu nor Skowronek could clear that bar. Whatever. I’m going only on what I see in games, not in practice, and not on film. But if McCutcheon can return kicks…he’s already shown more as a receiver than any of those three guys, albeit just one game, a game in which the Chargers secondary looked like the Keystone Cops.

i would tend to agree. i think tutu’s spot is safe only because rodrigue said as much due to him not playing a snap in that first game. but i’d be inclined to keep him over skowronek if he can keep performing like this.

he’s got size and he’s agile (4.25 short shuttle and 6.84 3-cone). and that game he showed incredible hands and body control. i like him.

    https://sicscore.com/nfl/updates/why-matthew-staffords-elbow-injury-is-not-as-concerning-as-it-seems

Why Matthew Stafford’s Elbow Injury Is Not As Concerning as It Seems

Reigning Super Bowl champion Matthew Stafford has reportedly been dealing with a throwing elbow issue during training camp and fans are understandably concerned.

However, it is unlikely that Stafford is dealing with a ulnar collateral ligament injury in his elbow and the Pro Football Docs do not have any concern for his availability or effectiveness for the upcoming regular season.

Matthew Stafford – SIC score 92

Head Coach Sean McVay has been cryptic about Stafford’s exact injury but said it’s “a little bit abnormal for a quarterback” and is something that MLB pitchers deal with.

The Rams’ head coach has not confirmed that the issue is tendonitis, but the Pro Football Docs believe Stafford is dealing with medial flexor wad tendonitis.

That common baseball injury would affect Stafford’s ability to grip and likely hurt when he flicks his wrist on the follow through of his throws.

It is primarily a pain-tolerance issue and thus the 34-year-old quarterback is not getting a downgrade in his SIC score.

He is still at a 92 because the issue is not likely to keep him out of any games. There is a slight chance it could affect his accuracy on deep throws, but that would only happen if the tendon were significantly aggravated.

The Rams are, smartly, managing Stafford’s throwing reps so that the tendonitis does not turn into a chronic pain issue.

The Pro Football Docs would not be surprised to see Stafford throwing with a smaller, college-size football at some point during training camp to reduce stress on the flexor tendon when he grips the ball.

Stafford confirmed that he received a PRP injection in his right elbow after the Super Bowl for an issue that he played through last season.

This is likely that same issue because tendonitis can linger. Stafford has been throwing in individual and 7-on-7 drills early in training camp and McVay told reporters he doesn’t expect Stafford to participate in team drills before the Rams leave Irvine on Aug. 10.

That does not mean he has suffered any sort of setback. It likely means the team has known about this issue for awhile and they are taking a measured approach to getting him ready for the regular season.

Stafford has been known to play through injuries in his career and his approach to this tendonitis is likely no different.

The only thing that would sideline Stafford is if he aggravates the flexor tendon to a point where he can’t grip the ball. That’s what the team is trying to avoid by limiting his reps.

Last season – Stafford’s first with the Rams after 12 with the Detroit Lions – he threw for 4,886 yards with 41 touchdowns and 17 interceptions while completing 67.2% of his passes, tying a career-high from 2015.

In four playoff games, Stafford threw for a total of 1,188 yards, 9 touchdowns and 3 interceptions.

    Rams Super Bowl LVII Odds

The Rams are +1100 to repeat as Super Bowl champions and are +125 to win the NFC West, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.

Stafford is +800 to lead the league in passing yards this season and +1400 for MVP.

i might be imagining it but i felt like his long ball started to slip toward the last half of the season. i don’t know if that had anything to do with the elbow. but the short and medium range passing looked fine.

maybe the rams will be better prepared this time around.

My point was, the PA would not do that because it’s Watson or because they are on his side. It would simply be a matter of how suspensions are handled in all cases like this. It’s just a matter of how the rules are applied.

    yeah.

well actually the nflpa had said it would sue if the suspension was for a year. i don’t know if it’d be on watson’s behalf or what. i don’t really care. i don’t understand the legality of all of it. i also read that the nflpa will challenge if the league tries to go against the decision and punish him for more.

my only point is that this is all a mess. everyone knows something happened. but how do you suspend him a year if predetermined protocols say 6 games?

    it’s all very sad.

but still no conviction. and i just read that the nflpa will fight if they try to suspend him for more. that’s just all horrible.

There was no conviction because there was no trial and there was no trial because it was hard to prove what happened in one on one encounters. The PA would not sue on Watson’s behalf, that would be entirely procedural in terms of what the agreed on protocols for suspensions are. It’s not this case, it’s any case that in the PA’s eyes pushes agreed upon protocols. You do not pay off more than 2 dozen women with settlements if it’s nothing.

i never said the pa would sue. i never said nothing happened.

i’m just saying the whole thing is a mess.

I have no idea what ‘justice’ looks like in a case that does not go to trial, and where two grand juries decided there was not enough evidence to indict, and where we dont know all the facts…..but…where 24 women have prettymuch told the same story. How in the world do you add up all the knowns and unknowns in a case like this, and then do all the human-algebra and then turn it into “X number of game suspensions.” The whole, entire, situation is post-modernly-surreal. Thats all i got. w v

    yeah.

the whole thing is just strange. i don’t really know much about the details. the only thing i can think of in recent memory that compares is that whole ben roethlisberger controversy that happened ten years ago. i just looked it up, and he was also suspended for 6 games. roethlisberger for sexual assault and watson for sexual misconduct. not sure if there’s a difference between those two words.

i like morris. we’ll see. not sure how good he really is as a coordinator cuz he really hasn’t had much experience actually doing it. i think he pretty much went from position coach straight to head coach with a couple of stints as a coordinator here and there.

but every coach needs talent to work with.

Ramsey has seen Wagner and Jones work together in the early portions of training camp, as well as some OTA sessions this spring, and he expects big things out of this pairing. On Tuesday, Ramsey tweeted that Wagner and Jones are “about to have a special year.”

    Roger Carter, Georgia State, TE

BAUMGARDNER My favorite of this group and just a great example of a unique position that continues to see more attention from smart organizations. Everyone calls it something different, be it the F or an H-back or another nickname. Utility knife, is my term. Carter is so springy athletically for a man his size and his agility is not only good enough to make him interesting in the pass game, but this is the type of player teams can move around as a blocker to add value. Not unlike the Ravens and 49ers have done with Kyle Juszczyk over the years.

RODRIGUE: It should be noted that the Rams’ “F” spot — if they continue to utilize it similarly to how they have in previous years — is essentially up for grabs after the Robert Woods trade. This signing is also super intriguing to me because Carter seems to be a pivot from the “gadget”-type player head coach Sean McVay and general manager Les Snead have previously gravitated toward — the super-light, super-fast players who haven’t necessarily panned out. I think Carter will make the final roster.

love this pick.  bummed when they released him.  pleasantly surprised when they brought him back.  i could see him being like a jordan reed type player for mcvay.

I think the board-consensus is they need a healthy OBJ for the big moments in the close games down the stretch.

if odell comes back, he’s the most talented receiver on the rams roster.
