Rams TE Colby Parkinson on Matthew Stafford:

“He understands the game unlike anyone I’ve played with before.”

Stafford’s 35 TD passes are 9 more than any other QB this season.

The tight ends have been a key piece of that with 10 TDs, including 4 from Parkinson.

    Sarah Barshop@sarahbarshop
Stafford has 35 touchdown passes, which is 9 more than the next closest QB.

It’s the 6th time over the last 30 seasons a QB has at least 9 more TD passes than the next closest player through Week 14.

The previous five times, that QB won the NFL MVP.

The Los Angeles Rams offense was on fired in Week 14.

Sean McVay’s squad scored 45 points in a huge win over the Arizona Cardinals, including three passing and three rushing touchdowns. That production broke a 20-year record for the franchise, but the overall performance did something no team has done in almost 75 years.

This Rams team was the first since Norm Van Brocklin’s Rams team in 1954 to finish a non-overtime game with at least 530 total yards of offense, convert 30 first downs and not turn the ball over, according to Pro Football Reference via The Athletic. Matthew Stafford finished with 281 through the air himself, while the rushing attack finished with 249 yards, including 128 from Blake Corum and 84 from Kyren Williams.

Warren McClendon Jr. has given up 0 sacks and 6 pressures this entire season.

    Rams Bros.@RamsBrothers
Rob Havenstein will be great depth in the post-season. But there’s no way in hell he enters the starting lineup again with how well Warren McClendon is playing.

Rams found their RT of the future. And he’s homegrown.

ME: A testimony to both the personnel people and the OL coach.

Rams starting tackles, with Hav sidelined…or at least their projected 2026 OTs…are a UDFA at LOT and a 5th rounder at ROT. Both playing well.

Finding a low-round pick who can play ROT is not rare (eg. Miller in 99, who was a 5th rounder). Finding a good franchise LOT as a UDFA is very rare. And I can’t think of any team that did both things on the same OL.

I actually left the TV to go do some other stuff right when Garappolo came i

Garappolo did not throw a single pass after he came in. They ran the ball 5 times with Ronnie Rivers for 27 yards to kill the clock and then Garappolo took the knee a couple of times.

Remember Howard Balzer from St. Louis? He covered the Cards in that city before the Rams. After the Rams moved back to LA he was hired in Phoenix to cover the Cards again.

This is the sardonic tweet he sent as the game was ending:

    Howard Balzer@HBalzer721
Even Ronnie Rivers averaging 5.1 yards per rush

Anyway I know what you mean about Nacua. In he many ways he does not have the superb level of route running and finesse we expect from elite receivers, cause we’ve been spoiled (starting with the 80s, it’s been Ellard, Anderson to an extent, Bruce, Holt, Kupp, Beckham, and now Adams). But he is so clutch and has magnificent hands, he works sideline catches better than anyone, and is tough as they come. So he’s absolutely a pure receiver, just not the magic dancer kind–he’s more like a TE in a receiver’s body. Either way, he and Stafford have an uber level connection and he just comes through, he has hands like magnets, he adjusts his body in mid catch like nobody else, and there’s usually a lot of physical impact involved, either him being hit by defenders (or running into them) or hitting the ground outstretched to take the crash on the length of his body while protecting the ball. He doesn’t have perfect receiver skills in some respects but in other respects he has other high-end receiver skills in spades.

I like the vid of Verse on the sideline open mouthed speechless in astonishment at Nacua’s TD catch against Seattle:

The Rams’ backfield duo of running backs Kyren Williams and Blake Corum continued their efficient ways, as Corum rushed for a career-high 128 yards and two touchdowns on 12 carries, while Williams chipped in 13 carries for 84 yards and one touchdown. That adds up to a combined 25 carries for 212 yards and three touchdowns, good for an average of 8.5 yards per carry.

from Matthew Stafford, Rams’ offense roll against Cardinals: Takeaways

    Nate Atkins

    https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6871116/2025/12/07/rams-cardinals-score-result-takeaways-nfl/

Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford watched most of the fourth quarter of his team’s 45-17 victory against the Arizona Cardinals from the sideline, and it’s safe to say the veteran enjoyed the view.

That’s because his Rams had built a 35-point lead by the time Stafford played his last snap.

Stafford threw three touchdown passes, two to star receiver Puka Nacua, as Los Angeles rushed for nearly 250 yards in a dominant effort and picked up their 10th win.

Running back Blake Corum rushed for a career-high 128 yards and two touchdowns while Kyren Williams added 84 yards and a score of his own.

Stafford looks like the MVP version again

All men are mortal, and that held true for Stafford last Sunday in Carolina, when he turned the ball over three times, including a pick six and a game-sealing strip-sack. The mix of a shootout and rainy conditions brought out some of the overaggressive play of Stafford’s past that day, and as a result, he slipped to second-best odds in a Most Valuable Player race that seems down to him and New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye.

Sunday in Arizona was Stafford’s chance to take it back, and he delivered with the help of a run game that enjoyed its first 200-yard performance of the season with 249.

After a first drive in which he couldn’t quite connect with Davante Adams on a would-be touchdown in the back of the end zone and then overthrew him when he was wide open on a fade, Stafford locked in. He got back to peppering intermediate routes to Nacua, who made acrobatic adjustments to reel in seven catches for 167 yards, including a 28-yard touchdown strike on a post from Stafford and a 31-yard jump-ball touchdown along the left sideline. (This was, somehow, Nacua’s first two-touchdown performance in his young NFL career.)

Stafford also tossed a red-zone touchdown on third down, when he sliced a tight window for a 6-yard score to Colby Parkinson.

Stafford finished 22-of-31 for 281 yards, three touchdowns, zero interceptions, 9.1 yards per attempt and a 131.2 rating before handing the reins to Jimmy Garoppolo for almost the entirety of the fourth quarter. The blowout win keeps the Rams in the driver’s seat in a highly contested NFC West race, and if Stafford can keep up this productive and mistake-free play and win this vaunted division, his case for his first MVP trophy is going to be hard to top. — Nate Atkins, Rams beat writer

    Secondary has some struggles again

The Rams have been shuffling their secondary grouping ever since safety Quentin Lake went to injured reserve and top outside cornerback Ahkello Witherspoon came back last week. It looked discombobulated to start the game, even with the Cardinals starting Jacoby Brissett in place of an injured Kyler Murray and playing without top wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr.

Los Angeles started Cobie Durant and Emmanuel Forbes Jr. again on the outside, and Forbes couldn’t team up with safety Kam Kinchens to prevent an easy first touchdown to Michael Wilson. They then subbed Witherspoon in for Forbes, and he struggled to stay with Wilson on a couple of chunk plays.

Update your feed. Follow new interests below for the latest stories.
But the coverage mostly tightened after a bad first quarter, and that allowed the engine of the Rams’ defense to get revving in the pass rush. Kobie Turner and Byron Young both turned in sacks, and the Rams were able to hit Brissett on seven dropbacks. They finally got their first turnover in seven quarters when Nate Landman intercepted Brissett to set up another touchdown.

The secondary represented the only negative in the blowout win, as Wilson was able to rack up 11 catches for 142 yards and two touchdowns by trading off big gains against Witherspoon and Forbes. Some regression was to be expected after losing a player like Lake, who could disguise and coordinate the defense so well from a mix of three different positions. Without him, this no longer looks quite like one of the best defenses in the league, but stopping the run and rushing the passer can still go a long way with an offense this potent. – Atkins

Forbes was on a heater entering last Sunday, but his approach as a recovery-speed player who makes plays on the ball with length can have a tricky dial to it, and he was on the wrong end of two long fourth-down scores that helped decide the loss to the Panthers.

His upside is too high not to play at a premium position right now. He’s a 2023 first-round pick who ran a 4.36-second 40-yard dash and has shown playmaking ability with three interceptions and 13 pass deflections in 12 games this season. It’s a riskier style without a safety like Lake to provide cover, but that loss will affect whoever lines up on the outside.

Durant moved inside for a good amount of last week’s game, and I think that will be the way the Rams get these three on the field for significant snaps. The performance will dictate how the reps shake out, as Los Angeles also has Josh Wallace to play in the nickel. The Rams will have to see what form Witherspoon is in as a 30-year-old cornerback recovering from surgery.

McClendon’s growth has been a bright spot this season. The Rams saw trouble early in the season when offensive-line injuries disrupted their short-yardage plans and passing-game rhythm. Losing a cornerstone tackle like Rob Havenstein to injured reserve was a cause for some concern. But, to McClendon’s credit, he has answered the call.

The 2023 fifth-round pick has now made five starts at right tackle, and the best thing you can say about him is he’s been hard to notice. He has yet to be charged with a single sack on 177 pass-blocking snaps, according to Sports Info Solution, and his blown block rate across 276 total plays is 1.4 percent. For context, Lions first-team All-Pro right tackle Penei Sewell has a blown block rate of 1.5 percent on a little more than double the volume.

McClendon has settled in nicely at right tackle after spending his first two years trying to learn both sides of the line as a swing tackle. It’s worked in tandem with a steady Alaric Jackson to protect the edges for Stafford, and his ability to string consecutive starts together has also paid off on the Rams’ zone blocking runs. They just had their best rushing performance of the season in Carolina with 152 yards on 7.2 yards per carry.

It could get tricky when Havenstein comes back, because this isn’t just any starter on this team. He’s one of the leaders of the offensive line and the most tenured member of the franchise. He has 13 career playoff starts, which shouldn’t be overlooked when talking about a move to a young and inexperienced player. And though his performance has not been at the level of McClendon’s this season, it’s worth noting that he dealt with the ankle injury that sent him to injured reserve in almost every game. Projecting how the two will measure up when that ankle is healed is more of a challenge.

Given the Rams’ need to answer this spot for the future with Havenstein turning 34 next spring, plus the high cost of tackles in the draft, it would be ideal in some ways to let McClendon take the reins. It just won’t be that simple if Havenstein can get healthy, given the interpersonal dynamics.

Consider the next couple of games an ongoing audition for the permanent role.

Bears finish second in the NFC North +170: This is a fade of the sagging and injured Lions as much as anything else, but Vegas was already pricing the markets as if Detroit was going to miss the postseason entirely ahead of its win Thursday against the Cowboys. If you are inclined to believe that the Green Bay Packers, with a playoff pedigree, are going to beat Chicago this weekend and win this division but Chicago is still a playoff team, this is the way to go for best value on those outcomes. The Lions seem to be missing their previous offensive coordinator, Chicago Coach Ben Johnson, who has the Bears running the ball and controlling the clock in a way that might trouble Detroit when the teams meet again in Week 18. Chicago’s fourth-quarter luck probably will regress some. Will the Bears, now thrust into the role of the hunted, wilt a tad down the stretch?
