Rams offense is so deadly this dude only has 3 FGs in 5 games. Some kickers doing that in one game .

Rams have been penalized 42 fewer times than their opponents this season. Next best team is at 19 (Seahawks and Browns). LA’s 314 fewer yards in penalties is also best with Bengals 2nd at 242 fewer penalty yards.

Philip Rivers is back with the @Colts!Albert Breer@AlbertBreer
Obviously what Philip Rivers is doing is rare. But it’s not unprecedented—in 1998, 44-year-old Steve DeBerg came out of retirement after five years away and signed a one-year deal with the Falcons. He even started a game (a 28-3 loss to the Jets) for Super Bowl-bound Atlanta.
JJ Watt@JJWatt
Philip Rivers ran the same offense as the Colts for his son Gunnar’s HS team this season. He and Shane Steichen spoke weekly about it, discussing plays and even film.
So familiarity with the scheme should be no problem whatsoever.

In the 42 games without him, the Eagles now are 15-27, a win percentage of .357.

(Rams 48) vs #2 (Lions 47) in offensive TDs scored. Are we looking at another record setting contest ala Rams 54-Chiefs 51 back in 2018? If it happens Goff would have played in both, winning one and losing one. 😎 😉
I trust our defense more than I fear theirs. But who knows?
Rams D #13 in yards allowed (315 y/g), Detroit #15 (323.9 y/g).
Rams D #3 in points allowed (17.5 /g), Lions #18 (23.4 / g).
Rams D #11 vs the run in yds (103.5 y/g, 3.9 avg, 4 TDs allowed), Lions #10 in yds (102.7 y/g, 3.9 avg., 9 TDs allowed).
Rams D #15 vs the pass (211.5 y/g, 18 TDs allowed, 13 Int, 36 sacks), Lions #19 vs the pass (221.2 y/g, 26 TDs allowed, 11 Int, 37 sacks).Rams O #4 in yards (373.2 y/g), Lions #3 in Yards (378.7 y/g)
Rams O #4 in points (29.2 / g), Lions #1 in points (30.3 / g)
Rams O #3 in passing (249.2 y/g, 35 TDs, 4 Int), Lions #5 (242.8 y/g, 27 TDs, 5 Int)
Ram O #10 in rushing (123.9 y/g, 13 TD), Lions #5 in rushing (135.8 y/g, 20 TD)Rams +10 (21 takeaways, 11 turnovers), Detroit +8 (16 takeaways, 8 turnovers).
This should be an entertaining game. Can’t wait!!!!

Justin Herbert was pressured on 68.3% of his dropbacks per @NextGenStats (6/14 for 112 with an INT) and only saw a blitz on 12.2% of his dropbacks (obv Fangio doesn’t like to blitz if he can get base pressure). To win a game despite that % is…breaking my brain.
Obviously you need a massive game from defense and special teams. But you also need a massively poor game from other offense. Whew man. 68.3%.

znModeratorfrom https://www.profootballnetwork.com/best-offensive-lines-nfl-rankings/
Breaking Down the Top-5 Offensive Lines
The Bears revamped their offensive line this past offseason, and it has paid off in a major way as they are currently the best unit in the league with an 88.9 OLi grade. Chicago leads the NFL in average time to throw (3.29 seconds), average time until pressure (4.57 seconds), and average time to sack allowed (4.56 seconds). Chicago has allowed pressure within 2.75 seconds on just 10.3% of dropbacks, which is second-best in the league. Their 4.5% sack rate is sixth-best in the NFL. On the ground, the Bears average 1.37 yards before contact (second-best) and 4.7 yards per rush (seventh-best).
Next up is the Rams, who are leading the league in average yards before contact (1.49) on designed rushes and averaging 4.8 yards per rush (fifth-best). In addition to their impressive run blocking, Los Angeles has a 4.1% sack rate (second-best) and a 31.4% pressure rate (fourth-best). They have allowed just 17 sacks (third-best).
znModeratorSo what’s all this bullshit you posted about the Rams being #1 on defense?
#1 according to what metric?
The stuff I posted before that had them at #1 was PFF grades.
This discussion in this thread is based on points and yards. If a team is top-10 in both yards and points allowed, by that metric, I counted them as a top defense. All the other 5 teams I listed meet that criteria. The Rams don’t quite because they are 13th in yards allowed. But they’re still a good defense. In fact probably technically top 10, if you balance the points and yards.
This is the post you refer to where PFF grades them #1.

Rookie LB Shaun Dolan currently ranks T-10th in the NFL in special teams tackles (15). It’s the most for any rookie in the NFL this season.
znModeratorThe Rams' offense is absurdly consistent for a team that creates as many explosive plays as they do. They rank first in success rate (by a lot) and second in explosive play rate. pic.twitter.com/YdvJ0V5K4e

Since their bye week, the Rams’ run game has been the most efficient in the league based on multiple metrics. They rank 1st in EPA per carry, success rate, early-down success rate, late-down success rate and first-down rate, all by large margins, since Week 9.
znModeratorSosa Kremenjas@QBsMVP
There have been 2 QBs in NFL history with 35+ passing TDs and 4 or fewer INTs through 14 weeks in a season.Aaron Rodgers (2020)
Matthew Stafford (2025)
znModeratorYeah Texans are shadowing Denver and could take their place as one of the 2 AFC teams one would expect to be in the conference championship game (the other being New England).
OTOH, though, KC was not well positioned defensively to take advantage of Houston’s offensive mediocrity.
All the top favorite teams this year–New England, Denver, Houston, Green Bay, Seattle–have top 10 defenses. The Rams are one of the top 6 favorites of course but are the only one of the 6 that doesn’t quite have a top 10 defense (13th in yards) but close enough since they’re 3rd in points.

znModeratorPlus, he is trustworthy in the return game, something that Atwell doesn’t seem to have the same knack for, or whatever.
Basically that means they need to have active the skill players who can contribute on special teams, which includes not only Smith but Mumpfield, Whittington, and Rivers. It also includes 3 of the TEs, minus Parkinson.
With the 4 TEs on the active roster, which is unusual, and then all the DBs they have to activate, that means that they have to count on those offensive skill players to double up on both O and STs.
That squeezes Atwell out, since he plays no role on STs either as a returner or in coverage or as a blocker on any STs unit.
