i would be cool with freeling. super athletic. protypical measurements. but only had one season where he really stood out so not a lot of game tape. jackson’s contract is up after 2027. i could see him compete for the right tackle spot and then switch over after two seasons.

again. good size and length. and he’s an explosive athlete for a tackle.

IMO? Stressing this is just IMO because I disagree so strongly, but I don’t want to come across as an internet truth guru.

So what is my IMO. That they don’t need to use pick 13 on a guy who might start at LOT in 2028. And they have a right OT for now–McClendon may even be better than Hav. They can get tackle depth for the present or a starter for the future in lower rounds. 13 should be used to either grab the kind of rock star player they rarely get a chance to draft at a position where he can have an effect this year…or to trade down and get more good players.

McClendon played pretty much half the season and the Rams had the 2nd lowest sack percentage in the NFL, and were 6th in yards per rush attempt. I don’t think they need a pick 13 tackle (they were 29th in 2024).

For higher picks, though they only have 3, I would like to see them get 3 of the following: another CB, another pass rusher either at DL or OLB, a dominant DL for either DE on the left side of the D or to rotate with Ford, a monster ILB who can do more than play the run, a monster TE, or a true 3rd WR. With the 1st pick, I want to see someone from any of those positions of the caliber they’re usually not able to draft (though probably not a CB if they stay at 13, that’s for rounds 2 or 3.)

For lower picks–depth at CB and at OL (all positions including OT). Special teams aces (like a gunner or returner).

    Edge rusher

The Rams will be just fine if they don’t add an edge rusher this offseason, but it wouldn’t be a bad idea. Byron Young is entering the final year of his rookie contract and after signing McDuffie and Watson to big contracts, paying Young (and Nacua, Kobie Turner, Steve Avila, Jared Verse…) could prove challenging.

Some of the best defenses of the last few years have deployed waves of edge rushers in big games, keeping everyone fresh. If the Rams can have three or four quality edge rushers in their rotation, it’ll only help Young, Verse and the entire defense.

With the release of Kyler Murray, just three of the 29 first-round quarterbacks drafted in the second decade of this millennium (2010-19) remain with the teams that took them.

Those three: Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson.

5 things to know about new Rams CB Jaylen Watson

    Wyatt Miller

    https://www.therams.com/news/5-things-to-know-about-new-rams-cb-jaylen-watson

The Rams agreed to terms with former Chiefs cornerback Jaylen Watson on a three-year deal in free agency, reuniting him with his running mate from Kansas City, Trent McDuffie.

Here are five things to know about the Rams’ new corner.

    1) College career began at Ventura College, just outside of Los Angeles
Watson spent two years at Ventura College, just outside Los Angeles, logging eight interceptions in 23 games. In 2020, he earned a scholarship to Washington State, where he played for his final two collegiate seasons.

    2) Worked at Wendy’s with his mom after his time playing it Junior College
After his sophomore season, Watson signed an NLI to play at USC but was ruled academically ineligible to transfer there. So, he moved home briefly, where he worked with his mom at Wendy’s to help pay the bills. It’s reminiscent of the path that Rams outside linebacker Byron Young took to put himself through Georgia Military Academy.

“I was never given anything,” Watson told Chiefs.com. “I’ve had to work for everything. I think that gives me an edge on the football field as well.”

    3) A former seventh-round pick
Watson made the most of his opportunity at Washington State, despite playing in just 15 games. The Chiefs selected Watson with the No. 243 pick in the 2022 draft. However, he quickly ascended into an impact player, starting six games as a rookie and two in his second pro season. He’s started all 21 regular season games he’s appeared in since 2024.

    4) Allowed the 10th-lowest passer rating when targeted in 2025 among cornerbacks with 200-plus coverage snaps (69.0)
Watson enjoyed a career year in 2025, hauling in a career-high two interceptions in 15 games. According to Pro Football Focus, he didn’t allow a single touchdown reception in coverage.

    5) Has played very tight coverage since entering the league
According to Next Gen Stats, Watson has forced the fifth-highest percentage of tight-window throws (less than one yard of separation) since his rookie season in 2022 at 30.4%. Only Sauce Gardner, Patrick Surtain II, Joey Porter Jr. and Tyson Campbell are ahead of him in that statistic.

Just for fun, I offer a slight and doubtless pedantic correction. An unnecessarily expensive statue would be a trope from dyspotian fiction. In post-apocalyptic, they can’t afford expensive statues. Or any statues.

Well, i get those two periods confused. What was the 2008 St.Louis Rams Oline — was that dystopian or post-apocalyptic?

    w
    v

    It was both.

There are dystopian/post-apocalyptic overlaps. Like Atwood’s Oryx and Crake.

Dystopian is a bad future civilization.

Post-apocalyptic follows the collapse of civilization. Think of The Road Warrior.

So the Rams had a bad administration in 2008, plus the offensive line got killed off. So it’s both.

Boy, the Ravens signing Hendrickson this morning is a bad look for them

    Field Yates@FieldYates
The Ravens’ pivot from Maxx Crosby to Trey Hendrickson.

The Crosby trade was for two firsts and he was due $112.93M in base value for the next 4 years.

They now sign Trey Hendrickson for $112M over the next 4 years.

    Vincent Bonsignore@VinnyBonsignore
By the letter of the law, the @Ravens didn’t break any rules by backing out of the Maxx Crosby deal. But they breached an honor element, and there are some angry people in NFL circles right now as a result.

    Jason La Canfora@JasonLaCanfora
Trey Hendrickson has more medical red flags than Maxx Crosby. He can’t play the run or rush the passer like Maxx Crosby … But the Ravens get to the keep their picks. What really went on here?

Few things on Maxx Crosby, per sources:

    • Trey Hendrickson to Baltimore is going to be one to watch tomorrow.

    • The Raiders are not happy at all. And they are going through how to proceed with this as we speak. No decisions have been made.

    • Players the Raiders have agreed to terms with have not been told anything. Those deals can be signed tomorrow at 4pm ET.

    • People close to Maxx Crosby are adamant he’s ahead of schedule and doubting him will only make him stronger.

    Dianna Russini@DMRussini
The Dallas Cowboys are not expected to re-engage in Maxx Crosby trade discussions at this time, a high-ranking source tells The Athletic.

    from https://ramblinfan.com/chiefs-expert-reveals-truth-rams-fans-should-know-about-jaylen-watson

Matt Conner of Arrowhead Addict, FanSided’s Chiefs site, offered some insight on Watson that will help Rams fans familiarize themselves more with their new cornerback. It’s insight that Rams fans will be delighted to hear.

“Jaylen Watson has climbed the Chiefs’ depth chart from former seventh-round flyer providing rotational reps to impact starter for a Super Bowl contender. He learned from L’Jarius Sneed and flourished when he left, providing a very physical boundary presence with real blitzing ability. The Chiefs draft-and-develop reputation is strong enough that they’ll let him leave for a big payday, but the success of Charvarius Ward points the way toward future expectations here.”

curl will be in his age 27 season. lake in his age 27 season. kinchens will be 24. mcduffie 26 and watson 28. a young secondary that should be at or are around their prime years.

On paper this is the best defense they’ve had in quite some time. On paper.

    w
    v

What I hope to see this year:

    1. Better tackling.
    2. Obviously, more cohesive and effectice CB play.
    3. Along with that, a more effective pass rush…it fell off a bit in 2025 from a promising new start in 2024.

Could be those boxes have all been checked.

    from https://www.therams.com/news/rams-re-sign-safety-kam-curl-to-three-year-deal-nfl-free-agency-2026

Curl was the Rams’ second-leading tackler last season, and his 122 total tackles were the second-most among all NFL defensive backs. He also caught two interceptions in the regular season and one clutch pick in the playoffs that helped the Rams get past the Bears in overtime of the divisional round.

Curl moved around the formation frequently last year, taking 58.6% of his snaps at free safety, 26.3% in the box and 10.3% in the slot, according to Pro Football Focus.

    Jaylen Watson, CB, Rams

Last season, Rams defensive coordinator Chris Shula was able to mask the Rams’ lack of talent at cornerback, but in the playoffs, the Seahawks exposed that weakness and negated the pass rush.

Rams general manager Les Snead was very aware of this weakness because he’s attacked it aggressively. Before free agency, they traded a first-round pick for Trent McDuffie, who can play inside or outside, and gave him a massive contract extension. On the first day of free agency, Snead reunited McDuffie with his former teammate, Jaylen Watson.

Suddenly, the Rams cornerback group is a strength with McDuffie, Watson and nickel Quentin Lake. Watson is a long corner who specializes in press-man coverage. Shula will be able to play a lot more man than they have previously, disrupt routes, and give their young pass rushers a better chance of sacking the quarterback.

Sign [long snapper] Joe Cardona to 2-year deal
    Grade: A

We don’t yet know the numbers on his contract, but the Rams were wise to add such a veteran, reliable long snapper. Cardona is a two-time Super Bowl champion and as a graduate of the Naval Academy, he’s an exceptional leader on special teams, too. He was a multi-year captain for the Patriots, which shows how highly regarded he was in New England.

Hey, now. The Saints just signed Travis Etienne, and the Chiefs already got Kenneth Walker.

Who the hell is going to draft Jeremiyah Love?

    Todd McShay@McShay13
It’s important to note; every GM in the league is taking Jeremiyah Love on a rookie deal over Walker III or Etienne on a veteran deal (not a knock on them, it’s just financial sense). Mickey Loomis and Brett Veach were well aware that Love wasn’t making it to them (at picks 7 and 8, respectively).
