Byron Young led the Rams with four pressures against the Eagles. Ochaun Mathis also had two in his first game action. Played just 10 snaps.

Puka Nacua is a fucking awesome player but still isn’t perfect. He leads the league in drops (5) and has double-clutched at least a few. Now, you could say a higher rate of targets = a higher rate of potential drops, but he still *can* get better.

Not including the final two drives for the Rams…In the second-half yesterday, McVay called 4 runs to 14 passes.

    Taking away garbage time (win% > 10%), Rams averaged 0.903 rushing EPA/play.

They averaged -0.720/play in drop back EPA.

Rams were never going to beat the Eagles running the ball, but a 0.903 to -0.720 difference is wild.

Shows importance of remaining balanced on offense.

End of game Rams move to 2-3 in a frustrating loss to the Eagles. A loss to a good team & once again our young guns hung in as long as they could before it fell apart. Potential is there BUT there are missing pieces we need to fill to realise it. Onto the Cardinals next week.

Rob Havenstein off the field with training staff, Warren McClendon in at RT. Rams on the field on fourth and 12 with a brand new RT.

Rams lost. I’m not surprised. Expected them to lose to the Eagles today. Eagles have best OL in NFL & a top-5 DL. 1st half got my hopes up but the offense continued its 2nd half ineptitude & the Eagles OL began to impose their will as the game wore on.

…and that’s the ball game. Rob Havenstein is forced to leave the game. Warren McClendon ends up giving up a sack. Not a situation you wanted to be in as an offense, allowing Eagles pass rushers to pin their ears back and rush.

Eagles had 23 first downs and were 10-of-12 on third down in initial three quarters. On those third downs, seven were third-and-5 or more. Eagles converted six of those seven.

I don’t know that I’ve seen Sean McVay as frustrated in a post-game presser. Pounded lectern in speaking about fixing repeated issues in team w/potential (including himself) and commented on being upset about chip execution on play McClendon was in (thinks Havenstein is ok).

    the rams d ranks:

2nd best in 3rd down conversions allowed
2nd best in completion % allowed
7th best in pass yards per attempt allowed
8th best in qb rating allowed

the eagles d has been stout vs the run but not the pass, will the rams come out passing?

the rams rank #7 in offensive scoring, the eagles #5 – both offenses also rank top 10 in third down conversion rate, scoring per drive, field goals per drive and offense epa, while being very close in yards gained per play.

We need a good TOP and chunk plays. We’ve got 21 – 20 yd plays and have allowed 15. Indy had 7 of them. But we had 8. We had 6 against Seattle and Cincinnati, allowing just 3 combined. The game we had only 1, vs SF (who had 5), we still won the TOP with 33:11. So that alone won’t cut it. We have to control the ball AND get chunk plays. And hopefully prevent them.

Our defense hasn’t allowed 250 yards passing yet. In fact, only once over 206. Philly is averaging 226. We did have 2 bad games vs. the run though. 159 vs SF and 133 last week. So really only 1 bad game. McCaffrey had 20 for 116 (5.8). Richardson ran for 56 of the 133, leaving RBs with 21 for 77 (3.6). Now we face a good RB (Swift) and a good running QB. But Hurts has carried 40 times for only 134 (3.3).

No Joe Noteboom and no Alaric Jackson practicing yesterday for the Rams.

The stability at the LT position is the primary cause of concern on the Rams offensive line.

If Jackson/Noteboom can’t go, it will be 3/5 games Rams have had to make a change at that spot.

If the Rams don’t have a starting LT on Sunday and have to go with Thomas/McClendon, it’s going to be very difficult for them to function how they want vs. PHI.

This is a game where you need to be able to line up in empty and spread the defense out. Need protection to do that.

Interesting stat via The Athletic Football Show… The Rams lead the NFL is throws between the hashes with 25. Meanwhile, the Eagles defense ranks 30th in EPA on defending throws between the hashes.

Mike LaFleur deserves a lot of credit. Easy to see his influence over the Rams offense. Perhaps the most interesting development is less screens. Rams are 31st in screen rate this year, per SIS. Thru 4 games last year they were 5th; 1st in 2021.
