from Quora

    A new wine taster

The wine taster at an old vineyard died. A homeless guy, looking ragged and dirty, came to apply. He persuaded the manager to give him a try.

The guy was given a glass of wine. He swirled, smelled, sipped, and spit.

“It’s a red wine, Merlot, three years old, grown on the South Slope and matured in oak barrels.” He said.

    “Impressive,” said the manager.

    The man is given another.

“Still a red wine, Cabernet, eight years old, from the Northeast slope, stored in steel vats.”

    The manager was amazed.

    He winked at his secretary.

The secretary understood and brought out a glass of urine.

The drunkard tasted it and said.

“It’s a blonde, 27 years old, three months pregnant, and if I don’t get this job, I’ll tell who the father is!”

    — As i recall, you were leading the “massey is a figurehead” chorus. At least now you concede, without massey, Bulger would have been nothing. w v

All this one up-manship. Like you know the Rams or for that matter football better than anyone else.

Never forget, I was the one who predicted years in advance that the Rams would trade up to draft Stafford.

Almost as much as when they got rid of Chris Massey in 2011, after he “made clean snaps on 702 out of 703 attempts including a run of 528 consecutive clean snaps.”

Massey was great up until he hurt his hand and then refused to wear a glove. That’s why his final 175 snaps were far from perfect.

    from https://theramswire.usatoday.com/2023/04/19/rams-allen-robinson-salary-cap-2024-trade/#:~:text=By%20trading%20Robinson%2C%20the%20Rams,13th%2Dmost%20in%20the%20NFL.

By trading Robinson, the Rams save $18.55 million in cap space next year, which isn’t an insignificant amount. They can now use that money to add a premier pass rusher or cornerback in 2024. According to Over The Cap, the Rams are now projected to have $73.8 million in cap space next year, the 13th-most in the NFL.

Matthew Stafford said he met with Sean McVay and Mike LaFleur this morning about “what they want to be about” in 2023. Seems genuinely excited on day 1. Says he was ready to go, and ready to play as soon as he was cleared. And that he’s no longer 25.

Matthew Stafford said he feels as good as he can be and he’s excited to be where he’s at right now.

Asked Matthew Stafford about Cam Akers and Akers building on the finish he had to the 2022 season. Stafford in part of his answer mentioned that he’s been working out in the facility on-and-off for awhile now, and has seen Akers every time he’s been in the building.

    from https://www.turfshowtimes.com/2023/4/16/23685371/rams-draft-depth-chart-brad-holmes-les-snead

Being a general manager means getting to do things your way, assuming you don’t have an owner meddling in the plan everyday. For Detroit Lions GM Brad Holmes, that means that he gets to run a draft war room in the style and manner of his preference and this year he revealed that he doesn’t look at a depth chart before making his picks. Holmes would prefer to not be swayed by “needs” when making respective picks.

The former Rams director of college scouting revealed at his year’s owners meetings that he’s seen other teams do that without having as much success as they should have.

Holmes has only ever worked for the Rams before being hired by the Lions.

“I just think you can make a lot of mistakes with that,” Holmes said. “I’ve been in regimes in the past that have had a depth chart in the draft room, and I’ve just never been a fan of that.”

Later adding, “When you’re approaching the draft and you’re just looking to fill those question marks, fill those holes, I do think that that can equate to some mistakes.”

    from https://www.turfshowtimes.com/2023/4/15/23684550/rich-eisen-jason-kelce-rams-los-angeles-new-england-playoffs
    .

About a week ago, sports talker Rich Eisen hosted Super Bowl-winning player and current Philadelphia Eagles center, Jason Kelce. They talked about a number of topics, but one topic that stood out involved Eisen asking Kelce which team was more likely to make the playoffs this year. The New England Patriots or the Los Angeles Rams?

    .

The interaction can be watched below, and the topic comes up about two minutes and thirty seconds into the video.

What’s More Likely: Eagles’ Jason Kelce Talks NFL Draft, Pats, Rams, Lamar & More | Rich Eisen Show (The Rich Eisen Show)

[They discuss the Rams at about 2:32 in: ]

As mentioned above, Eisen and Kelce both pick LA.

He takes a couple beats to decide, but Kelce says it all comes down to the division and he says that right now (and of course this can change by the start of the season) the NFC West seems like an easier division to navigate than the AFC East. It makes sense. In theory, the New York Jets will have Aaron Rodgers, the Dolphins made the playoffs last year and just traded for Jalen Ramsey, the Buffalo Bills have Josh Allen. It’s hard to believe, but on paper Bill Belichick’s team does seemingly look like the weakest team in that division, for now.

Rich Eisen has been standing by the theory that the Rams are not tanking. He is preaching what the Rams organization is preaching. While Matthew Stafford, Cooper Kupp and Aaron Donald are on the roster (and healthy), the team cannot truly tank. With those studs healthy and wrecking havoc on opposing teams come gameday, the team could quickly rebound from last year’s debacle.

The episode illustrates how they’re not just saying this stuff publicly – but behind the scenes too. I’m still skeptical, even if I believe that they believe what they’re saying. But we’ll see how it all shakes out.

Would really like to see the Rams bridge the gap between rounds 3 and 5/somehow find a way to get another top-100 pick. Perhaps move some of the late round compensatory picks and/or capital from next years draft to do so. Need at least 3 future starters from this draft.
