QBs who don’t have strong arms learn to play with anticipation since high school. We used to have one – Philip Rivers.

Herbert never had to anticipate anything in his life while playing QB coz of his Elite++ arm, he saw a receiver is open, gunned it before any DB could lay a finger.

The “throwing with anticipation” is brand new to Herbert, so the learning curve is steeper.

Well, Herbert is in year 7 as a pro. I do not think its a great idea to have him try to learn ‘throwing with anticipation’ at this point. I think it would be better to design the system around what he does well. The geniuses are gonna break him.

How did Brock Purdy last until the final pick of the NFL Draft?

    Danny G@DannyG_49
Greg Cosell put it best. Brock’s superpower is post-snap processing and anticipation. You couldn’t tell how naturally it comes to him on the college tape because that level doesn’t demand it. The NFL demands it and it’s here he separates himself from others.

from Jason La Canfora, NFL Insider Talks the Cowboys, Jerry Jones: https://casino.guru/news/in-depth/nfl-insider-talks-the-cowboys–jerry-jones-and-potential-trades-10978

    …

This is Jones’s production along with his son, Stephen. They have autonomy of staff hires and the roster and exert it on a daily basis and it’s clear they have missed the mark across the board with this defensive group.

Dallas has allowed 5.1 yards/carry, which is bottom three in the NFL. Teams get explosive gains on the ground against them with abandon, same as it ever was. It’s an ongoing epidemic … but somehow this year not the biggest problem. Because opposing quarterbacks are gouging them at a far more troubling rate.

Entering Sunday’s games, with the Cowboys having played five times already, NFL passers have a rating of 120.5, worst in the NFL. They are allowing quarterbacks to complete 72% of their passes, 30th in the NFL entering Week 5 Sunday games and 8.3 yards per passing attempt, tied for second worst. They have not been fundamentally sound, the players do not seem to understand the coverage assignments, and they cannot engender pass rush, with just five sacks through five weeks and one of the worst pressure rates in the NFL.

Rookie defensive coordinator Christian Parker, 34, is generating a lot of scrutiny at a time teams are demoting coordinators and re-assigning play-calling duties around the league. Just because Jones recently hired him doesn’t mean things can’t change quickly in Big D.

“He’s over his head,” one longtime NFL exec who has watched Dallas told me. “But he’s also an easy scapegoat. It’s really on Jerry’s dumb ass for hiring him before he was ready and hiring all those bad assistant coaches as well. It’s a staff problem and a personnel problem.

“If you can’t stop Tampa at home with an undrafted quarterback, who can you stop? They are playing with no confidence. They should call (longtime former NFL defensive coordinator) Wink Martindale right now. He’s what they need.”

Martindale, who has had successful runs in many NFL and college stops, would bring immediate swagger to this unit and he would sell out to get to the quarterback no matter what. Which is probably required. Because while Porter Jr. can help their coverage, he’s not any bite to a toothless pass rush.

Greg Cosell says Jalen Hurts is not a timing and anticipation QB, then says it’s the hardest trait to teach.

Have to get a Rams note in here.

Ty Simpson IS a natural timing/anticipation guy.

The vid with Cosell btw lists Warner as an exemplary timing/anticipation qb.

Aikman and Joe Buck squabbling, but still working together.

    ==========================
Troy Aikman addresses reported rift with Joe Buck and says he is leaving ESPN

Longtime Monday Night Football announcer Troy Aikman said he is looking for his “next landing spot” with his ESPN contract set to expire after February’s Super Bowl.

“I’ll broadcast through this season, and I’ll be a free agent at the end of the year and kind of see what happens,” Aikman said in a radio interview with KTCK of Dallas on Thursday morning.

Aikman, a Hall of Fame quarterback who won three Super Bowls with the Dallas Cowboys, is in the final year of a five-year deal with ESPN that pays him $18m ‌annually.

Joe Buck, Aikman’s ‌broadcast partner for the past 25 years, recently finalized a six-year extension ‌with ESPN that is worth more than $100m, according to the Athletic. Buck’s deal runs through the network’s next Super Bowl broadcast in 2031.

In Thursday’s radio interview, Aikman appeared to confirm earlier reports from Front Office Sports that there was tension between ‌him and Buck over their contract situations. The pair reportedly had an argument before Monday’s game between the Buffalo Bills and Los Angeles Rams.

“There’s probably a time and a place for all that to be discussed,” Aikman said. “I don’t know if now is the time. I don’t know that it’s hard to figure out kind of what’s happened.“

If Aikman does leave ESPN, he could explore his options at other ‌networks or streaming services or perhaps pursue a front-office role with an NFL team.

“I’m looking forward to whatever the rest of this season does hold, with the Super Bowl and all that, and where my next landing spot might be,” Aikman said.

Man, Ryan Fitzp. just lambasting Bo Nix.

    John Frascella (Football)@NFLFrascella
This was a tough one for me, honestly… we had Ryan Fitzpatrick on our Jets for 2 years… and it’s true, he was a WARRIOR… but… should he really be talking shit??

In Year 1 with the Jets, Fitz was terrific, playing well and putting his body on the line.

But in Year 2? He got old, was frail and would just toss up quick interceptions into quadruple coverage – he didn’t want to get hit … so, shouldn’t he UNDERSTAND Bo Nix’s situation, coming of a fractured ankle?

Honestly, I think it’s very clear… Broncos Management knows Nix isn’t 100% physically, so they are just working around it and playing extra conservatively

Probably everyone already knows this – and it doesn’t much matter to Rams fans at this point – but Jalen Hurts is out for the season. They found more blood clots in both lungs. Hopefully, he will follow in Jackson’s footsteps and recover.

If the Rams dont win the Super Bowl this year, I wouldnt mind seeing the 49ers blow a 28 to 3 lead to the Bills. Something like that. That would feel good, and right.

    Falcons beat the 49ers.

    For wildcard implications:

    Bux beat Panthers.

    Bears won.

    Packers play in Detroit.

    KC plays in Seattle.

Seahawks up by ten at the half, i see. Kenneth Walker totally shut-down in the first half.

Darnold throws a bad pick in the endzone just before the half or It would be 17 to zip.
