canadaramParticipantStill can’t stop a 2-pt conversion. Defense was torched, but not shocking given that Josh Allen was the arsonist. I don’t know… to me Lake, Kinchens and Curl aren’t exactly strengths for the Rams. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not like they’re Rich Coady awful but sometimes they seem like JAG’s who can be exploited by good offenses. Kudos to Kinchens for his hustle in OT though. Landman and Speights also underwhelm me. The Rams do not want to invest a lot of cap space in their MLB’s and on days where the d-line is getting blocked, Landman and Speights don’t often come to the rescue.
Anyway, pointing out how awful the special teams are seems like a cliche now. It’s just been a real slog for this unit since Fassel left. There was some stability with Matt Gay kicking, but they let him go and it’s been a nightmare ever since. It appears as if nobody in the Rams front office knows how to solve the problems that have plagued the special teams for quite some time.
They still might find themselves in a wildcard position if everything goes perfectly from here on out, but I wouldn’t bet on it. Pretty disappointing first 5 weeks.

wvParticipantStafford still just a little off. Great stats, but still just a little off.
Defense had a ton of trouble with a big-fast-running-QB.
Special teams.
Lost to SF, Denver, Bills. Schedule eases up for a while now.
Not sure whats fixable and whats not.
We await the coming of Myles.

joemadParticipantBrutal 5 game stretch to open the season… I was hoping for at least 3-2
Similar to last year’s gut punch block in Philly vs Karty, (a kicker that should’ve been cut a week earlier) it happened again last night against a kicker that should’ve been cut last week….
but McVay and the Rams are resilient…last year the offense got hot after that loss in Philly…
Their unprecedented Prime Time Schedule turns favorable… Cards, Raiders, Chargers, Washington, Packers, Chiefs…
The Rams are in position to be 8-3 after the first week of Dec

wvParticipantWell, we can expect the LT to be suspended for a game. That might get Stafford injured next week.
I just wanna see some ugly, gritty, grotesque wins the next few weeks,

How nutz is that?

ZooeyModeratorThat was the most brutal loss since Philly last year. That game was in the Win column until ST let us down again.
And now the Rams have to play for a Wild Card which they may very well get, but that’s an extra playoff game, and they’re in a tenuous position now.
San Francisco will be 10-0 when they host Seattle, and they will be favored in that game. They will be favored in every game the rest of the season with the possible exception of @KC on 12/27. We’re 5 games into the season, and the division looks lost. I’m not sure the 9ers will lose 3 games all year.
The only consolation at this point is that two of the Rams’ three losses are out of conference, and if they can get it together, they could still hold a tie-breaker advantage.
Puka’s gonna get hisself kilt. Watson appeared to have reinjured the same shoulder, so he could miss more time.
Myles may have made the difference if he had played last night. Maybe they could have held Allen under 1,000 yards rushing.
Alas.

It speaks to how powerful the offense is.
On a day when the Rams could not run the ball, and Stafford was still just a bit “off,” Rams got 383 yards passing while completing 74.07% of his passes and getting 3 TDs and O INTs. Rams went 5 for 5 in the redzone.
There were a few series in the 2nd half where the Rams just drove down the field play after play, in spite of often starting with poor field position. In his last 2 series, Stafford went 13 of 16 and got a TD then set up a FG (that should have won it). One of those drives tied it with less than a minute on the clock when the drive started. Both drives were masterful examples of 2 minute offense. Only of course to be marred by the missed FG in overtime.

wvParticipantAlas.
McVay has to be furious to the point of derangement.
Generally, we think of McSnead as good at identifying a problem and fixing it the next season.
Alas.

In the drive that tied it, the Rams moved with urgency and focus.
On the drive that should have won it, they did not operate with the same urgency and focus.
They had no answer for Josh Allen scrambling. Haven’t seen a QB carve up the Rams scrambling like that in a long, long time.

Agreed.
I don’t agree about the drive in OT, though. They did drive with urgency and focus. Until the last 3 plays (before the FG). But I was talking about Stafford’s play. Stafford didn’t call those 3 plays. It wasn’t Stafford who took his foot off the gas pedal at that point.

I edited that. I didn’t mean last 3 downs, I meant the last 3 plays.

Billy_TParticipantTheir special teams aren’t so special. Frustrating game, to say the least.
