wvParticipantInteresting topic. I did not realize the TV ratings were down.
I also, did not expect to read this sentence today:
” The younger generation no longer congregates around a large box; they carry small ones everywhere they go, constantly staring at them like zombies peering in to a sardine can full of brains.”
Personally, i don’t watch the NFL because i can’t afford TV. Its just about money.
I mean, for me to pay
for a TV cable or satellite hookup would cost somewhere between 60 and 100 bucks a month.
And watchin TV is just not worth that to me. Now if i could pay for the individual shows/games i want, then I might pay for TV. But i dont want to pay that big a monthly fee for a vast-wasteland of tv-garbage.w
v
wvParticipant….what does that MEAN ??
w
v
wvParticipantYeah, you have a gazillion of those individual stories about
nice cops, or nice rich people, or nice politicians or nice lawyers, or nice CEOs,
but none of those ‘acts of nice-ness’ change the fact that
racism is systemic and institutionalized….etc and so forth. To use an extreme example, i have no doubt that some of Hitler’s Nazi
buddies back in the 30’s and 40’s did all kinds of ‘nice things’ for
people in Germany. Probably all kinds of wonderful individual acts of kindness
by various Nazis. But them individual stories didnt change
the big picture, right? Yes? No? Maybe?w
v
wvParticipantBut the ‘way’ the few are doing it is interesting. The many have had their minds colonized.
That’s always been true.
Peasants didn’t accept the rule of lords solely through force of arms. They bought into the system.
That’s why we invented the theory of ideology.
Why do any majorities accept the rule of minorities? Which is how most of history works.
Because the thinking of the majority basically accepts the system they’re in. Ie…ideology.
————
Agreed. But the ‘methodology’ if thats the right word, interests me. The newer technologies of ideology interest me. The new ways the few can ‘brainwash’ the many. I’m interested in those ‘ways’. I’m interested in ‘how it happens’.
But then you know all that…blah blah blah.w
v
wvParticipantTo me, this isn’t rocket science. Pretty much from the beginning of organized societies, the few have ruled the many. It’s still that way, obviously. Capitalism was supposed to “liberate” the masses from the yoke of tyrannical kings and queens and aristocracy in general — and most conservatives believe it has. But it’s really just created a legal set of fictions to control the masses by other means — their bodies, their time at work, at home as consumers, and so on. It just created a new kind of ruling class.
———–
Agreed. This new form of empire-oppression that modern corporate-capitalism imposed
is in some ways the same ole sorry ass repression. Ya know. The few oppressing the many. But the ‘way’ the few are doing it is interesting. The many have had their minds colonized.
Maybe thats how its always been done, i dunno. Maybe the many used to ‘believe’ in the divine right of the few to rule. And now they believe in the divine right of the ‘free market’. I dunno.
But i do know that the entire biosphere was not being poisoned back in the olden days. Etc.

vSeptember 30, 2016 at 9:30 am in reply to: Greg Cosell comments on Carson Wentz, Aaron Rodgers, and Sam Bradford. #54143
wvParticipantCosell praised “steve spagnuolo and that Giant Defense”.
He also implied that the eagles offensive coaches were better than
the Rams offensive coaches. He also said Bradford had never been in a Norv Turner offense before,
and was playing really well. (But Norv’s offense is pretty similar
to one of the offenses Sam played in for the Rams…yes?)w

wvParticipantWell, there’s two memes that the middle and upper class believe about the poor that are so ridiculous it’s impossible to fathom. Yet they believe them anyway…
1. The poor have it easy.
2. The poor are poor by choice (ie they don’t want to work).
I see those ideas repeated endlessly in conversations among friends and coworkers and on social media.
As long as that sort of attitude exists among the ‘haves’ the politicians trying to win their votes won’t see a percentage in talking about the ‘havenots’.
—————–
There might be a third meme — something along the lines of“Well, golly shucks, there’s always been poor people, and as tragic as it is,
there’s nothing we can do about it. Its the natural order of things. Best we can do
is build some homeless shelters and contribute to charities”Ya know. Anything but examining the ‘system’.
w
v
wvParticipantSanders rarely talked about the poor. And he’s well to the left of the Dems on most issues. Which tells me that being “radical” these days is equivalent to being a mainstream “liberal” forty years ago.
———-
Well, i guess there’s just no votes to be had in talking about the poor. Ya know. Itz all about the ‘middle class’.If only the poor would organize….ya know. Ah well.
Oh wait. FIRST the poor would have to be cleansed of their corporate-programming, nationalist-programming, racist-programming, sexist-programming — and THEN they need to organize.
Such a simple little task 🙂
…beam me up…
w

wvParticipantDollar and sixty-five cents. Not bad.

wvParticipantWell a coach can be wrong or misread something without being an idiot.
That said….
———————————-
Well, apparently SOMEONE doesn’t know what being a football fan is all about.
Maybe someone needs to go back and read the football-fan-101-Manual.
wvParticipantI am proud to say I did not watch the shit show. Calling it a debate is ridiculous. It is a corporate production. Trump is a teapublican Clinton a pro-choice neocon endorsed by the likes of GHWBush. The only hope for intelligent debate was escorted off campus by armed corporate guard. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Po4NAoHp1bw
————-
…believe it or not, I ‘was’ actually interested in what they would wear. I wondered what color tie, corporate-donald would wear and what colors Hillary would wear, etc.
I’m always mildly interested in what the powers-that-be think about colors and textures and styles and how they influence people’s perceptions, etc. I’m interested in all aspects of the evil-arts –ie, the art of ‘selling/persuading’.
How Hillary Clinton Softened Her Style to Win Votes
……..
….
…Ms. Clinton is rumored to have hired makeup artist Barbara Lacy from HBO’s VEEP to head her beauty team. And reportedly, she is still a client of her longtime hair stylist Isabelle Goetz. (Neither returned requests for comment.) Ms. Goetz’s work has been particularly apparent of late. Ms. Clinton’s harsh, salt and pepper streaks of the winter have been replaced by warm, buttery caramels and golden highlights, a common hairdresser’s tactic for “softening up” a woman’s appearance. Ashy, white and mousey tones are considered to be harsh and aging. But arguably the most important addition to Ms. Clinton’s team is Kristina Schake. A former aide to Michelle Obama, Ms. Schake uses style, body language and other PR tactics to shape Ms. Clinton’s public persona and make her more relatable.Ms. Clinton’s recent appearances indicate that these tactics of business-like, streamlined outfits and softer beauty are working. According to professor Andy J. Yap, of INSEAD’s Organisational Behavior Area, Ms. Clinton’s body language at the June rally revealed a more relatable side. “She smiled a lot more with her eyes. Psychologists call this a Duchenne smile (or a genuine smile), which involves smiling with both the zygomatic major muscle (mouth) and the orbicularis oculi muscle (crow’s feet around the eyes),” he told the Observer. “This, coupled with her usual confident demeanor—both from her dressing and posture—makes her appear warm and competent.”
wvParticipantTo me this comes down to whether you think Fisher and his offensive coaches are Idiots,
or not. I mean, Fisher and his coaches see the kid every day, And they see Keenum every day.Its just not an issue to me, yet.

wvParticipantI would have to watch the entire game again. My impression is that the SF defense is far better than people wanted to believe.
And it is possible that the 9ers defense is just much better than many assumed.
So much for that theory.

Right now (ie. a couple of days after the Tampa game), this looks like it was just a bad game. For reasons I don’t think anyone has quite got a handle on yet.
I have some theories and speculations. But they’re just that, theories.
…
————-
My own gut instinct is that it was “just a bad game”. I dont really even think about that game when I’m trying to figure out who this team is or who its becoming. I kinda throw that game out. I’m not sure why i think that. Just a gut feeling. I’m pretty sure if the two teams played again tomorrow, I’d pick the Rams to win a close game.SF has played well against the Rams lately. They either match up good or they know stuff from film. But i still think the Rams will win the rematch.
w
v
wvParticipantI think its a lot of little things.
OLine out of sync.
Hav just coming back from injury
youth on the line.
playing against good front Dlines
Keenum being the 32 best ‘starting’QB in the NFL
Rams WRs probly being in the bottom-tier of the NFL
Other teams ‘figuring something out’ about the Rams offensive scheme.Stuff like that. Not just one thing.
The reason I’m optimistic some of that stuff will
improve with time and game experience and adjustments. With Keenum at QB though, and without even having one no.1 WR (some teams have more than one), the Rams can only be ‘so’ good. Wildcard level is the ceiling, I’d think.
But add Goff to the mix (when he’s ready) and find a no.1 WR next year,
and then maybe the get to the next level. No matter who the coach is 🙂In the meantime Snisher plays with the cards they dealt themselves. And they try to win ugly for a while. Play efficient mistake-free offense, and turn loose GW’s dogs of War on D. And HOPE that legatron has his shit together. Legatron will be the difference in three games this year. One way or another.
w
v
wvParticipantI’ve got that in my Netflix queue. Wanted to see it when it came out, but missed the chance.
Did you like it?
————-
Well, its the quirkiest movie I’ve seen all year. Its one of them ‘artsy avant-garde’ type things.
The director talked about wanting to make a movie about various aspects of human ‘love’ and all the societal pressures that interact with and on ‘love.’
Thing is, i just didn’t see much in the film that was particularly ‘insightful.’ Seemed like it had a lot of cliches to me. I kinda lost interest in it, about two-thirds of the way into it.
It was better than watching Corporate-Clinton, Corporate-Trump and the Corporate-Media, though.
w
v
this guy liked it
and
wvParticipantWell, after three games, the Rams have given up:
0 – 28
9-3
37-32What does it mean? What ‘is’ this team? I dunno yet.
Quinn is back, and that is a HUGE positive. Makes a world of difference to know you can count on him for a couple of game-changing plays per game.
The OLine is healthy — that is huge. I would think the more that young group plays together the better they will get. I think thats a reasonable expectation.
Gaines might help a lot (or hurt a lot, we dunno yet)
What i want to see is mistake-free football on offense,
and i wanna see a big pass rush on Carson Palmer.
I think the pass-rush and run-defense will have to win this one.I’m gonna pretend like they’ve turned the corner
and say:Rams – 24
Cards – 21w
v
wvParticipantI watched the Mickey and Minnie Mouse show last night.
I think Hillary just won the election. And I’m as anti-Hillary as they come. It was raucous through most of the evening, but when The Donald started his rant about stamina and fortitude, I think it brought the debate to a new low.
But again, Wikileaks isn’t done yet.
—————
I didn’t watch it. I watched a very weird movie called “Lobster”
instead. It’ll be interesting to see if the polls change any now that there’s
been a ‘debate’.w
v
wvParticipantThere was no running against the Rams in the 70s. They led the league in 73 and 74 with about 91 and 93 yards allowed per game respectively, and 5 TDs in 73, and 4 in 74. And they didn’t fall off from that much until 1979. I didn’t look up the 60s.
————
Yeah, do you remember just how utterly Futile it was for teams to try to run up the gut on LA ? It was just a ridiculous waste of a down.w
v
wvParticipantthe two of them together could be unreal. comparing them to merlin and deacon? personally i can’t say cuz i never really watched those two outside nfl films clips. but at this point those two are almost mythic to me. so it’s hard for me to compare these quinn and donald to 2 seemingly deified football players.
————-
The thing about Merlin was you..could…not..run on him. Ever.
I’ve never seen anything like it before or since. I just wish there were
statistics on individual DT play. Cause if there were, Merlin’s run-stopping numbers would be off the charts. And he wasn’t that big really. 275 Lbs maybe? And he did it for fifteen years or so.w
v
wvParticipantDid I tell ya I’m published (or will be soon)? The journal Clinical Laboratory Science is publishing a manuscript that I wrote. It’s titled, “The Direct Oral Anticoagulants Apixaban, Rivaroxaban and Edoxaban; Mechanism of Action and Laboratory Analysis”. And yes, it is every bit as interesting as the title suggests.
———————-
I heard Clinton wants to put anticoagulants in drone missiles and use them in the war on disobedient foreigners. And Trump sez he doesn’t even believe in anticoagulants.
w
v
wvParticipant… impression was that HRC comes off as a mean old hag too often.
Trump comes off as kind of a dopey, moronic drunken uncle who’s pissed about how his life turned out..—————-
My impression is that she is a mean old hag and she supports policies that will contribute to the destruction of the entire Biosphere. My impression of him is he’s a dopey, moronic drunken uncle who’s pissed about how his life turned out and he supports policies that will contribute to the destruction of the entire Biosphere.
…btw, I’m wondering which nitwit-pundit will be the first to say “He (or she) “seemed presidential.”
w
v
wvParticipantHere’s the next couple months. The only sure loss I’d say is New England. The others are all up for grabs. Could go either way.
At Cardinals
Bills
At Lions
Carolina
At Jets
Miami
At Saints
At Patriots
Atlantaw
v
wvParticipantSomeone noted that Quinn now has 18 forced fumbles, and thats the most of any NFL player during that time period. (and he missed half the season last yr)
It is so much fun to see Q and A playing together
on that DLine. We may not see anything like that duo again for a long time.Have the Rams had a DT-DE combo that good since Deacon/Merlin ?

wvParticipantTrumaine Johnson has been a disappointment so far. I don’t know what all the statistics say, but to my eyes he just isn’t as good as last year, and I would hazard that is because he doesn’t have Jenkins on the other side. I hope Gaines can come back and put a lid on somebody.
And I want more sacks. Where are my sacks?
———–
True, but Evans is awfully hard to stop. I think he got a million yards last time they played too, didnt he.
w
v
wvParticipantTo me, they looked like a wildcard-level team Sunday. Think about the wildcard-level teams from the past few years. They have all been flawed, and they all won games like this one.
Also, think about how important QUINNs play is. This week and last week.
(he played terrible in week one)Last year Quinn was not a factor. This year, he’s back.
Quinn and Donald together change this team into something
that approaches wildcard level. Just by themselves.w

wvParticipantWell, i agree with all that. The author is a little wordy, but i share that view.
w
v
wvParticipantRams won a brutal low-scoring game,
and now a shoot-out.Maybe this is gonna be an opportunistic, scrappy, ornery
team that will ‘find a way’ to win. We’ll see.I’m just looking for improvement week to week. Obviously,
the offense showed some improvement this week.w
v
wvParticipantI’m thinking of giving out plastic dinosaurs as well as candy this year.
w
vPlastic dinosaurs?
Awesome.
Back when I was trick-or-treating your house would have been spared an egging or soaping for giving out plastic dinosaurs.
As long as I got a good one that is…like a T. rex or Triceratops.
If you gave me an Iguanodon or some other wimpy hadrosaur, you’d be pulling toilet paper out of your trees for a month.
————-
Well, i collect them all year long at the yard-sales and thrift stores i go to every week. Usually i can get a ‘bag of dinosaurs’ every so often for a dollar. Etc. I also have a bag of ‘super heroe’s and a bag of plastic football helmets — though, no-one is getting the Ram helmet. I’m keeping that one.
w
v
wvParticipantI wonder why they picked yellow as the color.
Why not a rainbow line. Or Teal. Beige maybe.
