InvaderRamModeratorhe makes plays in special teams and in the running game, but the main reason the rams got him was as a receiver.
and he’s been thoroughly unimpressive there. i still hold out hope that he can get better. brian quick made huge leap in his third year. i’m hoping tavon can do the same. part of it is just him improving as a receiver, but i’m also hoping that cignetti can figure out some other ways to get him the ball as a receiver.
and as others have pointed out, hopefully better quarterback play and an improved offensive line can also help him.
hopefully all three come together next year and tavon can have a breakout season.
InvaderRamModeratori only watch the rams. didn’t even watch the superbowl this year. if the rams disappeared from the nfl i might stop watching football or watch whatever local team came to town. i don’t think it’d be the same though.
InvaderRamModeratoralso. in no way does the nfl want a team in los angeles with davis running things. if that trade happened, rams would be staying in st. louis and kroenke would be moving the raiders to los angeles. i’m not sure why he would want to do that unless the nfl made it a condition for moving a team to los angeles. i guess it’s possible.
InvaderRamModeratora trade with the raiders is the only way i see that happening.
just a guess but having a team with los angeles ties would be ideal for the nfl. that would be the rams, raiders, and chargers.
wow that would suck.
i’m not sure the davis family would want to give up the raider name though. not sure if kroenke would do it unless it somehow involved getting the denver broncos.
i just see it as being very unlikely.
InvaderRamModeratorGeneral agreement on the thread. I think the OL personnel and the QB issue will determine what we can do.
My point about Tavon.
As I have said before, Tavon needs to play underneath a downfield passing attack that drives the DBs off the ball.
The absence of that condition has not, in my mind, been primarily a matter of the OC. It has been the absence of WRs until last year, at which point we lost our QB.
A healthy, starting-quality QB plus a solid OL will ALLOW an OC to use Tavon successfully. I don’t think it has previously been a genuine option.
‘Course, I do think Schotty used too many jet-style gimmicks with Tavon. But, again, at least some of that was because he had a lousy QB and OL.
yes. oline and qb. i don’t care who is the coordinator. if they can’t sort those two situations out, the offense is in trouble.
InvaderRamModeratorMy thing with Tavon is, if he is used in new or different ways, it will be because he has advanced in his technique and knowledge and can DO more things.
It’s an unwinnable debate, as a debate–if Tavon is given more to do, I believe it will be because in his 3rd year he can do more things. But then, it would be hard to prove that…we don’t see practices and meetings, so we don’t know what they think he can and cannot do at this point.
it is an unwinnable debate. if tavon does improve and do more things next year, is it because cignetti is offensive coordinator or simply because he just has another year of pro football under his belt?
regardless. i expect cignetti to introduce the offense to some new things. perhaps his experience as an offensive coordinator in college will bring some other concepts we weren’t used to seeing before? i just don’t know that much about him. i know he has traditionally been a run first type coordinator, but i don’t know much about the offenses he ran before.

InvaderRamModeratorit’ll be interesting to see what happens to the city of inglewood.
the whole area is changing there. not just inglewood but leimert park and baldwin hills to the north.
InvaderRamModeratornot just the playbook though but knowing the strengths and weaknesses of each player as well. every coordinator is gonna bring his own ideas in. the added advantage he’s got is that he’s worked with these players whereas a new coordinator from the outside won’t exactly have the knowledge that cig has.
i wonder how much input he had when schotty was oc or if he’s got some fresh ideas that he can implement. in particular i wonder if he’s got any other ideas about how to use tavon. i also wonder what kind of qb he likes and if that’s different from what schotty preferred.
InvaderRamModeratorwho knows. cignetti could surprise us. and i still like the fact that the coordinator and players will have real familiarity with each other. that can’t be discounted working with these guys every day. knowing their strengths and weaknesses. and maybe he even brings a fresh perspective that schotty was missing.
who knows. but i’m actually happy about this announcement.
InvaderRamModeratori like the hiring. and i like that boras was promoted too. i wonder how much input boras will have in the offense?
my only other question is who is the rams qb coach now?

InvaderRamModeratororlando got robbed! robbed!
anyway. goodell has shown that he clearly is not tied to the idea of the rams staying in st louis. he’s clearing the way for stan to move the team to los angeles.
InvaderRamModeratorYou know I did a quick look at this a couple weeks back.
I went to Over.the.cap.com and looked at the Seattle cap situation, and who their FAs will be, and so on. I took it from 2015 through 2017.
And, I don’t agree that extending Wilson and giving him his 20 or so M will hurt them.
It looks to me like they managed things quite well. They can sign Wilson and keep the defense intact through 2017 at least, near as I could tell.
Plus they have 3 drafts from now through 2017 too.
I ain’t no paid professional cap-xpert or nothin, but I didn’t see where they would get hurt.
…
look harder.

InvaderRamModeratorwe will rally around a lame duck season and play decent football.
ughhh.
goodell’s words aren’t too comforting. or maybe it’s just cuz they’re coming out of goodell’s mouth.

InvaderRamModeratorSo, u are calling for revolution,
then?
“Free the Rams!” ?w
v
sure. why not?
interestingly. 2 of the richest sports teams in the world are owned by the fans. real madrid and fc barcelona.
InvaderRamModeratorwe need more guys like aaron donald. i think.
that’ll do a lot to improve the consistency and mental toughness of this team.
now take a guy like ogletree. tons of talent. but it was disheartening to read that he showed up unprepared at the beginning of the season. can he eventually mature and become what the rams need him to be? maybe.
but we need more donald and less ogletree on this team.
and a qb.
…
and an interior offensive line.

InvaderRamModeratoryeah. the rams should be publicly owned. screw these billionaire owners.
InvaderRamModeratorrob boras.
InvaderRamModeratorhappy birthday, jimi.
January 27, 2015 at 6:21 pm in reply to: 101, 1/26 … Albert Breer on re-location (re-location thread) #17510
InvaderRamModeratoralso. breer also talks about how hard it is to establish a team in los angeles. to develop loyalty among the fan base.
the rams have history there. i think it’ll be easier than most teams to relocate to los angeles. the only exception being the raiders.
January 27, 2015 at 6:18 pm in reply to: 101, 1/26 … Albert Breer on re-location (re-location thread) #17509
InvaderRamModeratoryeah. i agree with all that. i bet peacock has already gotten the message of build the stadium, and we will get you an nfl team if not the rams.
i think st. louis also wants to be in play when mls expands. a brand new stadium would help there too.
January 27, 2015 at 6:06 pm in reply to: 101, 1/26 … Albert Breer on re-location (re-location thread) #17505
InvaderRamModeratorit’s weird. the nfl definitely doesn’t want to give the impression that they want teams to start moving around, but they want a team in los angeles and kroenke’s plan is probably the best they’ll get in a long while. and at the same time it almost corrects a previous “wrong” in that the league never wanted the rams to move in the first place.
i think somehow. this move gets pushed through. they’ll find a way to make it happen.

InvaderRamModeratorintelligence to me is the ability to process information. montana’s ability to process information on a football field. the playbook and all the moving parts on the field in a matter of seconds in order to make a decision shows a lot of intelligence.
InvaderRamModeratorrussell wilson is a great qb. i don’t think anything can convince me otherwise.
trent dilfer. that guy was a caretaker on a team with a great defense.
joe flacco. better than dilfer. but still just a very good qb on a team with a great defense.
russell wilson is a great qb who happens to play on a team with a great defense. yeah he’s got a great running game. but look at his supporting cast. doug baldwin and jermaine kearse were his leading receivers this year. he’s the type of guy who makes his teammates better.
InvaderRamModeratorhappy birthday!
yes. thanks for this board. everyone here owes you a debt of gratitude. you are a gentleman.
InvaderRamModeratorSeattle backup quarterback Tarvaris Jackson laughed about the controversy.
“That’s crazy,” Jackson said. “But I have thrown some balls that weren’t all the way pumped up [by accident]. They do feel better. Kicking balls are horrible. They’re overinflated.”
InvaderRamModeratoryeah. and how many football players take performance enhancing drugs which we don’t even know about? i mean. who knows how many players on the rams have taken performance enhancing drugs or even something as simple as altered their own playing equipment for a competitive advantage.
i’m not too bothered by it. but i sure would like to see belichick and brady squirm in their interview booths.
InvaderRamModeratormedia week should be pretty entertaining too. i hope. they should really give the pats a hard time with that. that’d be fun.
InvaderRamModeratorlet’s be clear. on offense one team uses their balls exclusively. the other team uses their balls exclusively when they’re on offense.
so yeah it can create an advantage. for sure. would it have made a difference of 30 points? probably not. but it definitely makes a difference.
InvaderRamModeratorin other news, the rams offense was found to play with deflated balls. league sources are confused as to why the rams still couldn’t pass the ball this season.
