Packers coach Matt LaFleur kindly took time for a virtual sitdown with LA beat writers this afternoon.
On Sean McVay/Rams signing Baker Mayfield: “Yeah, you know, can’t say I was real excited about it, from a competitive standpoint…He’s a guy that I got a lot of respect for.”

LaFleur and McVay have caught up every so often about their similarly unique seasons. LaFleur says he has more appreciation for now is dealing w/ coaching turnover at extreme levels.
This is my first year kinda experiencing that…and, I mean, it’s a bitch to go through.”

Rams WR Tutu Atwell discusses his speed, first NFL touchdown & Cooper Kupp’s mentorship | Featured on Rams Revealed Ep. 97

    J.B. Long

    https://www.therams.com/news/rams-revealed-tutu-atwell-featured-speed-touchdown-cooper-kupp

Tutu Atwell is the fastest Ram.

We have NextGen data to back it up. He regularly reaches 21 miles per hour on game day, according to GPS data.

But this week on Rams Revealed, the second-year pro told us that’s not even close to his ceiling.

“Actually, when I was in Louisville, my top was 24 (miles per hour),” Atwell said of his college days.

So that led us into a conversation about formulating an all-Los Angeles Rams 4×100 relay team, and who Atwell would want on the track with him to win a league-wide race. The Miami native, fresh off a mini-bye week trip home, didn’t even take the anchor leg for himself!

“Van (Jefferson) will start off. Jalen (Ramsey) second leg,” he quickly decided.

Then, after proposing the Rams hold tryouts for the right to run third, Atwell plugged himself in to run third, build a big lead, and set Robert Rochell up to hold down the anchor role.

“I’m gonna put Scoota on the fourth leg… He’s just gonna bring it home.”

A bright spot within a challenging season for the Rams, and the offense in particular, Atwell’s emergence brings optimism for what’s to come – perhaps as soon as this weekend at Lambeau Field on Monday Night Football, but also in 2023.

Whereas Atwell was too overwhelmed to execute a celebration in New Orleans following his first NFL touchdown, he promised us there’s something TikTok worthy in store the next time he hits paydirt.

For all those details and a whole lot more about the 23-year old, including his IMDB credentials and love of gaming, plus Cooper Kupp’s influence and whether he’ll be drafted in fantasy leagues next year, check out this week’s Rams Revealed on YouTube as well as your preferred podcast platform.

It looks like Rams assistant coach Zak Kromer has taken on an expanded role with the tight ends, now that assistant HC Thomas Brown has also taken over coaching running backs with Ra’Shaad Samples’ move to Arizona State earlier this month.

Sounds like Michael Hoecht is making a case for a longer-term role specifically as a pass-rusher with the Rams. Raheem Morris even alluding today to Hoecht “changing his body type” a bit toward more of a pure pass-rusher. Very interesting.

Rams DC Raheem Morris on team waiving OLB Terrell Lewis: Combination of getting Michael Hoecht acclimated to position, Keir Thomas seeing more time + being able to get Daniel Hardy some snaps as well. Also less likely that Lewis was going to be active this week vs. previous wks

Would that help with setting an edge in the run game? Seems like the Raiders exploited that early, forcing the Rams to play Thomas more.

    Jourdan Rodrigue@JourdanRodrigue
I think that seemed like more of an eyes/discipline thing. He had his eyes in the wrong spots and that’s where his contact points went

Don’t think he is “the future” at this moment but maybe real solid rotational guy

The Packers run defense ranks 32nd in DVOA. Their 0.073 EPA per rush allowed ranks 31st. They are allowing five yards per carry which also ranks in the bottom-5 at 30th. Rams NEED Akers to take over on Monday night…

The Rams are releasing OLB Terrell Lewis, per source.
    .
Lewis’ release means the Rams waived both OLBs who entered the year expected to be the starting rotation opposite Floyd

Wow, the weather looks really nasty for our game Monday. Rams can’t catch a break.

13° is painful. Mayfield may be used to playing in the cold, but that’s going to be a challenge for others. Advantage Wisconsin residents. Our running game may need to rear its head. Our run D gives me hope and Rodgers must be harassed (if we can). That’ll be the key along with moving the chains on the ground.

Now watch Baker come out slinging it all over the yard

Bobby Wagner in 5 days had 21 tackles, 2 sacks, INT.
In 2022: His 13 run stuffs rank No. 1 among all LBs, his 15 overall stops on 3rd or 4th down are T-1. He makes a “splash play” every 18.3 snaps (highest rate since rookie season).

“Splash plays” being defined by query as “any positive play for defense” (h/t @aaronjreiss ) – Wagner’s 43 splash plays are No. 2 among all LBs in 2022. He is 32.

query admittedly motivated by the one dude who commented in my story the other week “he has been no more than a shadow of himself and please don’t show me statistics – they mean nothing” ok bud hold my beer

Sean McVay said he’d be “hard-pressed” to see a scenario where WR Cooper Kupp (ankle) plays again this season.
    .
McVay added that this thinking here has to do with the timing of Kupp’s injury as well as how long it would take for him to be medically cleared to return to performance.
    .
McVay said QB John Wolford (neck) will be out this week

New Rams DT Larrell Murchinson also had claims put in on him by the Lions and Seahawks, per source. Seattle was without DL Shelby Harris (illness) this past Sunday and DT Al Woods is now uncertain to play this Thursday. The Rams had top priority of these three teams.

    from the wiki

    Height: 6 ft 2 in (1.88 m)
    Weight: 297 lb (135 kg)

Murchison was selected in the fifth round of the 2020 NFL Draft with the 174th overall pick by the Tennessee Titans.

    .

On August 30, 2022, Murchison was waived by the Titans and signed to the practice squad the next day. He was promoted to the active roster on November 15. He was waived again on December 10.

On December 12, 2022, Murchison was claimed off waivers by the Los Angeles Rams.

    from https://www.nfl.com/prospects/larrell-murchison/32004d55-5205-0645-8ac2-0c9cf311ff55

    .
    Analysis By Lance Zierlein
    .
    Overview
    .
Murchison redshirted his first season with the Wolfpack and then earned the team’s Defensive Lineman of the Year award as a 13-game starter in 2018 (34 tackles, eight for loss, four sacks, one interception, two pass breakups). He stepped up his game as a senior, garnering second-team All-ACC honors after leading his team with 12 tackles for loss and seven sacks (48 total tackles, two pass breakups in 12 starts).
    .
Early into his evaluation, it’s hard to get past the tight lower body that restricts his upfield and lateral strides with his feet barely leaving the ground. As the tape rolls on, it’s impossible not to notice his motor and that he’s always around the ball and rarely on the ground. Murchison has the ability to battle through blocks and come out well-oriented and ready to make plays. He’s quick to process and respond, but doesn’t have great closing burst and lateral agility. He thrives in smaller spaces with less ground to cover and should become a good rotational three-technique for a 4-3 defense.
    .
    Strengths
    • Impact production against run and pass
    • Stutter-rush helps work edge to edge
    • Never stops charging forward to harass pocket
    • Effective spin counter at the top his rush
    • Quick lateral response to lineman’s first movements
    • Cross-faces blockers majority of time
    • Consistently plays under his pads
    • Proper technique to brace and scrap versus double teams
    • Rarely ever on the ground
    Weaknesses
    • Lower body tightness is restrictive
    • Unable to click and explode into initial blocks
    • Short-stepper with below-average closing burst
    • Limited reactive agility as short-area tackler
    • Hands are quick but would benefit from more deliberate force
    • Effort over traits could drop him in the draft a little
