znModeratori think it was cuz of gilbert’s puny 9 3/8″ hands.
davis has got those mutant 10 3/8″ hands…
hahahaha!!!!
Okay, hands-man, explain again why large hands are a top asset for a qb. Not everyone has heard about this.
I do know it’s one of the secrets to Russel Wilson’s success.

There ya go! Glad to help.

znModeratorstrange cuz i listened to interview and said that he heard it for a fact. and now he’s saying, “i think.”
so was it his opinion that he heard somebody say it or is it the opinion of his source?
maybe bernie doesn’t want to lose listeners so quickly?
Bernie is only an occasional guest on 101 and isn’t associated with the station. His main thing is the Cards. He doesn’t lose or gain anything either way.
My guess? And it’s only that. That RK had 2nd thoughts about his sources.

Okay the best bet I can think of is to use “pic sizer” to turn it into an ordinary jpeg. That’s what I did with my avatar, which comes off my computer.
Pic Sizer is here:
znModeratorI am thinking more of camp rather than exhibition games. The reports were pretty dang lackluster iirc. Not that Gilbert ever got a positive write up. But it just seemed unlikely to me that the Rams would hang onto Davis. Draft picks almost always get a stretch of time to develop, and Davis already had time to develop, and didn’t seem to do so. The Rams had cut him before.
Yes, as I recall it, in camp, Davis did not stand out, and Gilbert was being given every chance to displace him.
It was the pre-season where you had to start changing your tune on Davis. Not in the first exhibition game, but after that. He started to show up.
NOW we need to find out if he can sustain it.

znModeratorOk it won’t let me upload a pic for my avatar. Its a jpeg and the right size and all but it just won’t upload. Any ideas why? Thx
Unless I had more specific, I couldn’t say much.
Did you read this?
znModeratorAustin Davis is an extremely lucky man.
If Bradford had not been hurt, he would not be employed in the NFL right now at all. They would have kept Hill as the #2, and the draft pick for future development, and Davis would have been gone.
I don’t know about that. I think if Bradford had stayed, Davis was the third, just based on how he started getting it together in the pre-season.

znModeratorNot keeping London was so epically tragic.
For years, some would say, well they can’t afford both Little and Fletcher.
That was never true.
From what I have gathered over the years, it was a couple of things. First, Lovie wanted Duncan. 2nd, JZ assumed LF would cost more than he actually DID, so he just went for Lovie’s plan.
Martz has said that his single biggest regret as a Rams coach was not fighting to keep London.
znModerator————————–
laram
London Fletcher said more than once, the Rams front office did not know what they were doing and were satisfied making money. He said they made no attempt to keep the core players together.
As we know they could have signed both LL and LF, because they ended up signing Duncan for more. London mentioned that as well.
IMO he’s also throwing Martz under the bus, by mentioning the details of letting him go, and the fact he didn’t adjust to the Pats dropping 8 in coverage and running Marshall in the SB.
London is not biting his tongue here, great interview.
He just said he would have loved to have played his entire career in St Louis!!
znModeratorThanks Rambill for all the articles u post.
Welcome aboard!
znModeratorAre the Patriots really this bad? Or was their loss to Kansas City an anomaly? Mike Sando tells us.
znModeratorJust a mistake.
Thanks for the heads up. I moved it. September 30, 2014 at 6:23 pm in reply to: Tick bite sent Rams' Wells to intensive care unit in hospital/PD #8745

Grits
Has anyone told Rams fans that Aaron Donald is doing great too?

znModeratorThe Patz lose their legendary OL coach (Dante Scarnecchia) and trade away Mankins, and suddenly Brady doesn;t look as good.
I wonder if there’s a connection.
September 30, 2014 at 8:39 am in reply to: Tick bite sent Rams' Wells to intensive care unit in hospital/PD #8714
znModeratorThis summer’s tick-borne illness resulted in Wells sitting out the exhibition opener, although he did play in Game 2 (against Green Bay) and Game 3 (Cleveland) of the preseason.
But combine that with left guard Rodger Saffold’s shoulder injury, and left tackle Jake Long’s rehab from knee surgery, and the Rams’ starting offensive line was rarely on the field together during training camp and the preseason.
Yeah. OUt of sync in game 1. It showed.

znModeratorWatching KC slaughter the Patz.
Not sure how I feel about that.
Kidding.
Of course I know.

znModeratorI am willing to pay for the pie.
Sorry.
It’s free.
You’re just going to have to accept that.

Barksdale is UFA and could be expensive to keep.Plus:
1. So far anyway, Boudreau coached OL have been selling at a premium rate.
2. If they sign Boudreau to a nice 4 M or more a year deal, that makes it the 4th OL with that kind of deal (Long, Saffold, Wells). Can you really have 4 linemen with expensive deals? Now chances are Wells is gone…but then, can you really have THREE linemen with expensive deals? (The “three” is more of a judgement call…4 I think is too many.) And do you want to have 2 OTs on longterm contracts when you just used the 2nd pick of the draft on a 3rd?
3. As good as any ROT may be as an individual player, ROTs are easier to replace than LOTs and more expendable. So it gets into this–do you want to spend money keeping a right OT? Given the way the market for ROTs works (ie. there’s always more of THEM than there are left OTs).
I obviously have no idea what the Rams are thinking. Just thinking out loud about different aspects of it.

znModeratorApparently, Dallas is really explosive and you’re not supposed to take them lightly.
So it seems.
At 5:04 in the 3rd quarter, Dallas 31 New Orleans 3.
Seems Romo being a bit gimpy early led to them being underestimated.
znModerator–
Well I agree with the Rams on sticking with Hill, if in fact they’re doing that.
That’s a whole discussion in its own right.
But–
. and i’m not sure this offense needs the big armed quarterback. not the way this team is designed.
First, one small disagreement. This team is designed to take advantage of personnel strengths—especially the qb. Other than the imperative to run enough to have a balanced attack, and to use play action, that leaves a lot of latitude.
Think back to the pre-season and Bradford zinging in these undefendable 15 and 20 yard lasers. Then, they have a week to gameplan Davis, and all of a sudden, they look THAT way.
One strength of Schott’s that many don’t see because they still don’t see how good he is (and IMO he’s pretty good)—he is not a top-down, impose the system kinda guy like McD. He is very good at extrapolating from what he has and making something out of it that fits.
Well actually 2 disagreements. #2 —
IR, it’s not true that YPA is a pure qb stat. The Rams would have had a better YPA than last year no matter who the qb was–because THAT is due to having outside receivers who can challenge defenses (ie. Quick and Britt). That right there is ALL the difference.
Well that plus a running game.
When Bradford had Stacy for 3 games in 2013, his YPA was in the high 7s. Against Carolina it was in the 8s. Those 3 games included 2 against top 7 defenses.
..
znModeratorseriously though. he is a very athletic quarterback. or at least he looks more athletic than sam. and his arm is more than adequate. i really would like to see this guy get a real look. he might be the perfect qb for this offense. kinda like a poor man’s russell wilson.
First…that bit on his hands is really good info, and it explains a lot. QBs with big hands can make some throws others can’t. I have not seen anyone else mention it before, so good work there.
Now, as to the Bradford v. Davis thing….I don’t want to get into a Bradford v. Davis quarrel, though a fair and open-minded comparison makes sense.
Assuming (1) a healthy return by Bradford, and (2) continued development by Davis (both things combined making this all purely hypothetical), then…
…I would say:
Davis is more athletic.
Bradford can throw accurate lasers all over the field.
To me, until they find someone who is both at least that athletic and has a strong accurate arm and a quick release, then, it’s 6 of one and half a dozen of the other.

Hill, meanwhile, I think has a bit more arm than Davis, but against both of them what sticks out is his sneaky smart quick decisive throws—-decision making. He’s like aw shucks, and yessir and yes m’am, and good golly, then you walk 2 whole steps away from him before you realize you’ve been cut.

However…I have solved this little riddle and the answer my friends…is that as of this very moment there have been 11 different posters responding to this thread.
You see,
We can not count ZN’s original post as it is not a “response”. Very tricky of him. He does, however, respond to his own thread later.
So…
Posters responding in the thread:

ZN

Since Zooey did not include me in his answer because I had not responded yet–I win and would like my pumpkin pie with some soft serve ice cream from Dairy Queen. I will be showing up wherever it is served looking very much like Mr. Monopoly as I’ll be wearing a monocle and top hat for full effect.
Actually you lose. It is 10. If you had been paying attention you would have seen that I specifically said I would NOT reply in this thread. And as of this writing I have kept my promise. I have yet to post in this thread and I will continue to do so…not post in this thread that is.

This sounds suspiciously like a board war. You guys are longtime board vets…you know how it is supposed to work. You;re supposed to save that kind of thing for quarterback discussions.

znModeratorEagles just blocked a 9er punt in the redzone and recovered it for a TD.
I hope the St. Louis coaches watch this game, or something, cause, we don’t want the Eagles doing that to the Rams.

znModeratorI can’t get interested. I keep doing paperwork instead of watching. The game that’s playing is….Bux/Steelers. I think at that point I had lost the remote, so, that’s the game the tv is piping to me as its non-audience.
Maybe the 9ers/Eagles?
Enh, we’ll see.
znModeratorIf you’re going to change the informal poll contest rules then I want a potato chip crust on my tomato pie too.
Well I didn’t CHANGE them, per se. I took advantage of the bye to improve them a little. You know, just tinkering. All this came about after watching hours of film on informal polls and how they work.
znModeratorWell, now, its actually Sunday, and not Saturday. Does this reply get counted???
Yes. Sunday counts. It’s bye Sunday after a loss. I will even edit the original post to reflect that.
