So i read that McVay just fell in love
    with Stafford at some point.

Plus the cap hit over the next two years
    is much less with Stafford.

I dunno. I’m startin to like it.

Feel bad for Jared though. The Lions. Man.

    Holy Shit.

Geez, I like Stafford but not for two no1 picks.

    Omg.

If Stafford became a Ram, I’d be fine with that.
Cause, I basically put Stafford and Goff
in the same pile of ‘good qbs’ who i think
    could win a Ring.

Deshean Jackson would be an upgrade,
    Stafford would be a horizontal-grade.

I think the Rams will still be
“wildcard level” no matter how many assistant coaches
they lose, and whether or not its Goff or another
    “good qb” at the helm.

But if they actually want to improve, and challenge
the Chiefs, they will need to improve the OLine,
and they will need a burner at WR. Imho.
    All that is do-able.

I’m somewhere between Startled and Astonished.

I got nuthin. Other to say, Wolford did not
‘beat out’ Goff. I dunno how anyone could
arrive at that conclusion after watching
Wolford play. And i love that he can move.
Love it. You guys know, i love mobile-QBs.
But i dont see Wolford as a starting NFL QB.
He’s crafty, and game, but he’s no Russell Wilson.
    =========

    I guess,in 2020, I’d rank Goff, about 13th,
behind these guys: Goff 20 TD /13 INT

Lots of really good years for QBs,
as per usual. These are my own rankings, fwiw.
The only one that i dunno what to do with
is Lamar Jackson. He’s an odd one.

    ===========
    Mahommes 38/6
    Aaron Rogers 48/5
    Josh Allen 37/10
    Tom Brady 40/12
    Russell Wilson 40/13
    Deshaun Jackson 33/7
    Drew Brees 24/6
    Ben Rothlisberger 33/10
    Baker Mayfield 26/8
    Matt Ryan 26/11
    Philip Rivers 24/11
    Lamar Jackson 26/9

I think Mahommes is the best quarterback Ive ever seen,
and the Chiefs have so much speed on offense,
I think its their game to lose.

    Chiefs 31
    Bucs 24

I dunno. I always had this nagging concern
that McVay was doing it with smoke and mirrors on offense.
They would have good games, but it just seemed a little,
i dunno…gimmicky or something on offense. Like he
was doing all this very effective dinking, dunking, roll-outs,
screens, etc. But it just seemed like he was doing it
BECAUSE there was a weakness he was trying to cover.

And then late in the season, i think it was Orlovsky?
or one of those guys, said something similar.

But i dunno. If it was a personnel weakness on the Oline,
    maybe its fixable.

It was a team that stomped the Patriots, and
turned around and got stomped by the Jets.
A team that twice just got beat-down by
    a tough-but-losing team — the 49ers.
A team that took 2 out of 3 from Seattle.

They were exactly what i think of
when i think of a 10=6 Wildcard team.

As I’ve gotten older — and hopefully wiser — I’ve changed my mind a bit about the relative importance of coaching. Used to weight it far behind player talent. Not so anymore. I still think you win with superior athletic talent, and that it’s the most important factor, but that coaching talent is close.

    ==============

Andy Reid’s career is interesting. For so long he was “the good coach who couldnt win the big one.” Kinda like Shottenheimer or maybe Robinson for the Rams.

    Enter Mahommes.

Now Reid is Mr Hall of fame coach.

I think it will interesting to see what Belichick
can do over the next few years, without Brady.

I watched the hi-lites of both games.

Brady had some of the most spacious, clear pockets
to throw from, I have ever seen. I mean, he had a TON
of room to heave those deep balls.
And when he ‘was’ pressured he threw INTs.
Granted those INTs were deep balls and essentially punts.

Otoh, Rogers was pressured by that tampa line.

Tampa’s Oline and Dline just outplayed
Green Bays lines. Not by a lot, but enough.

Chiefs just look like a GSOT with a mobile QB.
And there defense was just better
    than the Bills D.

Interesting matchup. Brady goin in as an underdog.

Not a total mismatch, but ya gotta think the Chiefs
are just the best overall team again.

Maybe people were wrong about Biden–he seems like he is proposing some interesting ideas. He seems serious about climate change.

And the child tax credit sounds impressive. Would this be the most important program to help poor people in the last 25 years?

    From the Washington Post
    https://www.washingtonpost.com/us-policy/2021/01/22/biden-childtaxcredit-stimulus/

Under one draft of the plan being discussed, the IRS would be tasked with depositing checks worth $300 every month per child younger than 6, as well as $250 every month per child age 6 to 17. That would amount to $3,600 over the course of the year for young children, as well as $3,000 a year for older children, the officials said.

Unlike with the stimulus checks, the Biden administration and Democratic lawmakers are hoping to make these child benefits a permanent government program that would continue in future years, according to three senior Democratic officials who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss internal planning. The current proposal calls only for the expanded benefit to be enacted for one year, after which Democrats widely hope political pressure will force Congress to extend them. The benefit would be phased out for affluent Americans, though the precise income level has not been determined.

    Blue Boy

McVay (and Kromer) did everything possible scheme-wise to cover up offensive deficiencies…

This is is not a physically overpowering o-line… Yes, they performed better than 2019… And they were indeed better running this year than last… Better (healthier) running backs… More line consistency…

But note: 4 of their 6 losses were against top 10 rush defenses…

And when it came to passing and they faced defenses with a strong push up the middle (between the guards), the line could not keep the pocket from collapsing…

And having a traditional drop-back passer put the unit at risk… Thus they employed a lot of short-drop and / or heavy play-action to buy the blockers more time… As well as the rollouts…

This the reason for the quick / short routes… Why do you think 17-Woods and 10-Kupp where among the leaders in RAC…? Because 9 times out of 10, they were on the receiving end of a short catch and run… Rarely did any of the WR’s run long routes…

Two years ago, the average pass reception to 17-Woods travelled 10 yards before he caught it… This year, only 5 yards… (Same for 10-Kupp, only 5 yards…) Yet both players got about 10.5 yards p/catch INCLUDING RAC…

Again, much of the positive the team was able to accomplish was due to scheme, coaching and play-calling…

I believe the o-line was poor when it came to pass blocking… And serviceable when it came to run blocking…

And of course, 17-Woods and 10-Kupp are REALLY GOOD Wr’s… Two of my absolute favorite players… But the team lacked anyone to stretch the field and create more space for the offense – if they could hold their blocking long enough…

To further make my point, I suggest you watch McVay’s season closing press conference from Sunday… Where he readily admits to the o-line’s failing and the impact of not having a WR who can stretch the field…

I tend to agree with every single word of that.

I only saw the hi-lites, but it looked like a
well-rested team against a tired team without the
    Real-Aaron-Donald. The packers just looked
like they had a little jump in their steps,
and the Rams missed a ton of tackles in the hi-lites.

We’ve seen that a million times in playoff-games
played after one team has a bye.

Not sayin the packers wouldnt have won anyway,
    but the bye-difference was clear.

Looked like Goff coulda used Kupp a few
    times too.

La Fleur has been a great match for A.Rogers,
i guess. Two 13-win season in a row. Even Dick
    Vermeil didnt accomplish that.

    11 wins, 7 losses. A wild-card team.
    With the No.1 Defense.

    I dunno, I think they under-achieved.
The 49 flops, Miami, The Jets.

Not a ‘bad’ year, but i think they under-achieved.

It’ll be interesting to see what the Rams
think they need. Bring on the draft.
Do they need a deep threat? A DE?
    One of everything? A QB?
