Where I am going to differ is in the defense of terrorism. First there are South African militants who condemned the “neck tie” burnings. So that’s not a universal example of battling apartheid. But my main thing is, everyone who commits terror believes in their hearts it’s in the name of a just cause. That includes the KKK with its lynchings, McVeigh and Oklahoma, the Nazis in their ascent to power, Mussolini’s fascists, and so on…for that matter it includes the illegal settlement mafia that attacks West Bank Palestinians to drive them off their land. If we say to them our cause is true and yours isn’t, they say the same to us. So I never excuse anything that can just be used by the other side, using the same rationale. I also don’t equate Hamas with Palestinians. And in case that sounds like some thin anti-muslim veneer, during the conflict between the Israeli state forces and Hezbollah, I defended Hezbollah. The current Israeli government promoted Hamas. Not enough people know that yet. To me the left and wars of liberation have to honestly act like they really are better, not just in their principles but in their tactics. That can be done in ways that are pragmatic and effective, so I don’t accept the Stalin-like argument that the other side plays dirty so you have to too (that’s not addressed to anyone here–it’s something I hear around sometimes when these issues come up). To quote The Hound (it’s the exchange that starts at 3:20): <iframe title=”The Hound meets the Brotherhood – BRILLIANT dialogues | Game of Thrones” src=”https://www.youtube.com/embed/71KqyxYb-dM?feature=oembed&#8221; width=”690″ height=”388″ frameborder=”0″ allowfullscreen=”allowfullscreen”></iframe>

Well, I dunno, but I just cant see any way the Palestinians can achieve any kind of justice/land by peaceful means.   Can you imagine Israel budging an inch on any of this?

I also ant see any way the Palestinians can achieve any kind of justice/land by violent means.   Can you imagine Israel/USA losing a war to the Palestinians?

    So….

I cant condemn Hamas.   I cant condemn any ‘terrorist’ group who is in the position Hamas is in.

I also cant praise or cheer or celebrate what Hamas did.   I cant ‘go there’ either.

So, i just stay silent on the Hamas part of this.

On the Israeli Occupation part of it — i never shut up.

Well…its better than i expected but it doesnt really represent my view.   Its what i have heard described as a ‘soft zionist’ view.

I mean nowhere in that vid is the word ‘occupation’ even uttered.   Seems to me, He kinda starts from the premise that both sides are equally innocent and equally guilty or something close to that.

One of my questions is this — is it even possible to legitimately argue a group is a ‘terrorist group’ when said group is fighting a murderous occupation?     Was the ANC a ‘terrorist group’ when they were burning people alive, as they fought against apartheid in South Africa?   Were the Black Panthers ‘terrorists’ when they were robbing stores to get money for ‘the revolution’ ?   Were the Earth First folks ‘terrorists’ for blowing stuff up in their fight against capitalist-ecocide?

    I dunno.   I’m hopeless, I’m afraid.

I noted Chomsky asked this question in an old video:  If the Palestinians remain peaceful, what changes will Israel make?    (the obvious answer, being Nothing, None, Zip.   Just a slow continuation of expanding settlements and ruthless occupation)

So after week 10 (i think?) this is the sich-u-a-shun:

Division leaders in order : Eagles, Lions, 49ers, Saints.

3 Wildcard teams as of today:

    Dallas 6-3

    Seattle 6-3

    Minnesota 6-4

    In the hunt:

    Bucs 4-5

    Commanders, Falcons  4-6

    Packers, Rams 3-6

    ==

Rams would have to climb over 5 teams.

Next up: Seattle, Arizona, Cleveland, Baltimore.

Watched some Lions highlights.  RB David Montgomery had a Faulk-ish TD run.

Lions 7-2 now.    Their defense looked awful.

If opposing defenses are ‘breaking tendencies’ against the Rams, is it because they think McVay is not good at ‘adjusting’ during games?   Or…what?

(And do teams ‘break tendencies’ against the Rams more than other teams?   I mean dont all teams try and break their tendencies, etc?)

If any of this ‘breaking tendencies’ stuff is true, then one would think it would lead McVay to be a better coach next year.   He’s gonna have to develop a plan for being more….’fluid’ or somethin in the future.   I dunno.

I don’t like Wentz much. But the Rams don’t take my calls anymore so I guess I have no input. …

Well, I know Wentz has been a dick, but I am hoping he aint stupid.   If he aint stupid he will have learned something by watching what Baker Mayfield did.   Shut up, Get with the program, do well and revive yer career.

See how simple it is  🙂

Is Byron Young a ‘rising star’ or is he just one more pass-rusher on the Rams who looks better than he is, because 99 is on the field and taking up so much attention.

But they went into the game with Rypien which suggests to me that McVay was at least trying to place some guys around Rypien whom he was familiar with on a first-name basis. Now, if I’m right that McVay put zero effort into grooming Rypien, it’s hardly a season-breaker cuz they never figured to be a serious contender, and Rypien was never in the plans anyway. If this happened during a “real” season, I think I’d be kinda pissed. This isn’t a good look for McVay, no matter how you evaluate it, but…you know…this seems like a “lapse” to me. An understandable lapse, but it’s a lapse.

Well, Im just an idiot-fan, and I know i know nothing, but this ‘could’ have been a wildcard-year.  The NFC middle-tier teams are pretty mediocre as per usual.

So, i just dont understand how you dont sign Wentz at the beginning of the year.  Assuming he was available. (was he?)

I mean, Stafford is elite, but we know he’s breaking down.  He does not have a Brady body.

If Wentz had been the backup from day one, they win that Packer game and are in the wildcard hunt.

    Well….good.

Wentz is a mystery.  All the physical talent in the world.   Can McVay do with him what he did with Baker Mayfield.

Just watched the highlights today.   Obviously, this team is a helpless with a Quarterback with ‘that’ amount of talent and that amount of experience.

Thing is, we knew Stafford was an aging, patched-together-QB.   I have not liked McVay’s solution to the backup QB issue for the last few years.   I dont get it.

I wanted a decent vet backup.   …basically, i ‘always’ want a decent vet back up QB though.   I wanted a decent back up QB back when Trent Green went down.  Like, say, Hostetler.  But did Vermeil listen?  No.

I guess we’ll see how much fight this team has in it, as the season goes along.   Wont be a lot of wins, though.   But it would be nice to outhit some teams and maybe get a win over, say, the 49ers.

    3. Vikings 4-4 or Saints 4-4

And Vikes lost their qb. …

Rams play the Saints and Commanders this year.   Every week is a playoff-ish game to a wildcard-ish team.

Cowboys favored by 6 at the moment, i guess

    https://dknetwork.draftkings.com/2023/10/22/23910472/nfl-odds-2023-rams-vs-cowboys-week-8-spread-moneyline-over-under-point-total-opening

“….The Rams have been up-and-down this season, and they’ll bring a 3-4 record into this NFC matchup after falling 24-17 at home to the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 7. Los Angeles was outscored 14-0 in the fourth quarter of that game, as the Steelers came back to notch a road victory. Puka Nacua continued his fantastic rookie season with 8 catches for 154 receiving yards in that game, and he’ll continue to be a difference-maker even with Cooper Kupp healthy.

I’m leaning toward the underdog Rams to keep this one close and cover the spread in this game. Los Angeles has been in every game they have played this season, even against top-flight competition. This one should be close, and that makes the Rams a solid pick while getting points.”

3-4 now for the 10th time in the SuperBowl era.

As you will recall, the rams have had losing seasons the previous 9 F’ing times.

Painful lessons on offense, defense and special teams yesterday.   Rams and Steelers and about ten other teams look to be about even.   Lots of close games coming in this here NFL.   Its gonna be a wild winter.   Wouldnt surprise me if a dozen teams were vying for final Wildcard berths in the last week.

…Stafford is the best qb I’ve ever seen play with the Rams. Better than Warner even, who was great, and Bulger, who was good. Goff is good, potentially great, but Stafford can still make throws the other 3 couldn’t/can’t.

    Yes.

    Walterfootball…

Evans is a natural runner with three-down starting potential for the NFL. The first trait that jumps out about Evans is his speed. He is a fast back with an explosive first-step and a burst to the second level. He can run past defenders, making him a threat to take any carry or reception down the field for a huge gain. In the NFL, Evans will be a threat to break off long runs thanks to possessing rare quickness for a starting back.

    <center></center>
On top of being fast, Evans is an instinctive runner. He displays impressive vision, body lean, and patience, plus he runs behind his pads. Evans sets up blocks and uses his speed to dart through holes before they close. Defenders really struggle to get a hold of Evans, who has great feet that make him very elusive. He is sudden with his ability to cut and change direction. Assisted by that direction-changing talent, Evans can create for himself and help his line when blocking assignments are missed.

While Evans is not a big back, he does have some strength to his build and is able to break tackles while picking up yards after contact. He is not overpowering for the next level, but he will be able to shed tackles and get additional yards. Evans goes through defenders while falling forward to finish runs well also.

Evans is suited for the passing-driven NFL because he is a capable receiving back. Evans runs good routes out of the backfield and has soft hands. All college backs need to be coached up and groomed for blitz protection in the pros, and Evans will have that learning curve as well.

Evans has the physical talent to be a starter in the NFL, but his size and durability could restrict his availability. It would not be surprising if Evans is injury-prone and frustrates his team by going in and out of the lineup. In the 2023 NFL Draft, Evans has the potential to be a second-day pick.

Player Comparison: D’Andre Swift. Evans’ speed, receiving ability, and running style compare well with Swift’s. Both are big-play threats who are capable of being dangerous playmakers. They also have a tendency to get dinged up and miss time to the point of frustration.

WV, Have you read Caste, by Isabel Wilkerson? I’m about a third of the way through, and it’s stunning, heart-breaking, at times jaw-dropping, in its historical look at the way caste structures form. She concentrates primarily on the US, Nazi Germany, and India, but not just those places. It’s a truly important book, and I wish it were required reading for our “leaders,” corporate America, police, and in our schools. https://www.isabelwilkerson.com/

I have not read it, BT, but the fact that Oprah liked it, makes me wary of it  🙂

If nothin else, skip to the 45 minute mark, and watch a few minutes.   About ‘who’ should make the decisions about what football should look like.   The owners?  Or the laborers?

The guy (dunno who it is) compares the white Tom Brady to the black Barry Sanders.  He argues the owners designed the new NFL to protect and highlight skill sets that Brady has.  Not skill sets Barry Sanders had.   The guy then argues Barry Sanders was the by far the more talented player, but the owners wanted the game to look different.  It raises the question of who should have decided what the NFL should look like.
