wvParticipantYou mean the 36 minute mark on the AUDIO, right? (The video doesn’t go past 30 minutes.)
He mentions that the Rams lead the league in tackles for loss.Yes, the audio.
Though, at the 66 minute mark, Fisher’s
theory linking UFO crashes at Roswell
with ACL tears seemed a bit tenuous to me.w

w
vHe didn’t have the personnel in New Orleans but still made it work best he could and one year was even top 5. I don’t count Buffalo because he wasn’t the coordinator. Either way, he has had top 10 defenses his whole career.
And, I don’t think anyone figured him out. So now the Rams lead the league in tackles for loss and they only lose because they make incredible game-turning mistakes, but their defense has been figured out? (?)
Unless injuries completely undermine them, they’re just going to get better on defense. What they need to just STOP is the boneheaded errors resulting in huge big plays. But that’s execution. It’s coaching if it’s the EXACT SAME errors game in and game out, but these guys just keep coming up with new ones.
Personally, when it comes to liking or not liking Wms, I think he did his time and gets another chance. People can disagree with that and I completely understand.
As far as ‘figuring him out,’ ive read some comments
that his blitzes just arent working. The blitzers
aint disrupting anything. Now there could be a million other reasons for that
(if its trut) — but one reason could be,
the league has ‘figured out’ GW.
Your position is the league
has not figured him out.
Mine is, I dunno.w
v
wvParticipantThat’s cool, zn. He coordinated New Orleans’ defense for three seasons. One season at No. 24, one season at No. 25, and one at No. 4. In the season at No. 4, the Saints played twelve games against teams in the bottom fourteen of the NFL in offense, including two against the NFL’s worst offensive team, Carolina, and one vs. No. 31 (Arizona) And they did well against those teams. They faced exactly one top ten offense (Dallas). What would you expect? Color me dubious. I’m not a Gregg Williams fan. I don’t think he has proven anything. If he has proven anything it’s that he has a lot to prove. The bar is set high when you have a reputation as a defensive guru, and he is tripping all over it.

wvParticipant36 minute mark on is worth listening to. I’d even
call it a Must-Listen —S.Savard:
“where do you think your run defense is right now?”Fisher:
“I think the perception is, we are a difficult
team to run against…”w
v
wvParticipantI believe that Gregg Williams bears the lion’s share of the blame for the condition of this defense. It was a young, promising defense last season, and expected to be among the league’s best this season. The cast is largely the same, minus Chris Long (but add a talented Aaron Donald), and another year of experience under their belt. Enter Gregg Williams and they can’t find their asses with a mirror. I think we need to stop labeling the draft picks as mistakes and apply that label to Williams. He was a horrible hire and has set this defense back to where it was two or three years ago. I think he is an egomaniac who constantly feels the need to demonstrate his genius and has over-complicated everything. He needs to go. He has his own good in mind and not the good of the team. The season is essentially over, so I see no reason not to fire him now. Bring in someone who is driven to put his players in a position to succeed, not to put himself in a position to succeed.
Well…i feel ya.
But i think zn’s notion is worth considering.
They may still be adjusting to a new system
and they ‘may’ start ‘getting it’. The future
will unfold 🙂 We’ll see. Nine more games. Its the Rams so what will probably happen iz,
the defense will improve….as the offense
collapses.w

wvParticipant————
Bernie: 3a. Ogletree is having an awful second NFL season. He’s the Rams’ most disappointing player so far in 2014. He’s frequently lost out there, takes wrong angles, and teams have exploited him to click off huge runs to the outside.3b. More on the Rams’ horrible defense against outside running plays: according to STATS LLC, opponents have gained 312 rushing yards on 55 runs to the left sideline, an average of 5.67 yards per attempt. And on 62 rushes to the right sideline, opponents have 376 yards — averaging 6.06 yards per run. No NFL defense has done worse in this area.
——————-Major questions :
Is Greg Williams a significant cause of this?
Can Greg Williams fix this?I ‘hate’ bad run defense.

I dunno what La thinks about QBs,

Definitely gotta jettison Long

You guys need to watch the games before blaming Davis.

undecided on AustinD.w
v
wvParticipantI don’t remember ever anticipating a blowout of the Rams before. But I do this week. The Rams’ OL just went down the toilet (in terms of continuity and experience, if not talent), and the 9ers are coming off a bye at home. And no Quick. I’m not sure I can watch.
Dallas will lose to Arizona.
Well, yeah, i dont expect much…but…All Things Are Possible.

wvParticipantTavon Austin is starting to look like a completely blown pick.
I haven’t given up on him entirely, but he isn’t the contributor we thought we were getting after trading up to the #8 spot to draft him. He’s just a guy. Who apparently can’t get separation or break tackles. Which doesn’t bode well.
Yeah, I’m not happy about Tavon,
or Brockers for that matter. But in some ways i feel pretty
optimistic about this team. Its a weird combination of
talent and youth and boneheadness
and injury-proneness and mystery.Bottom line though — another
year of double-digit losses.
Hard to take. Year Three,
and another year of double-digit losses.Next year, if i am Kroenke,
Fisher HAS to win.w

wvParticipantast year Austin was used on 9 routes, drags, crosses, mis-direction, bubble screens etc.
This year not!
Why?
IMO? Davis.
I dunno. Why cant AustinD throw some of
those kinds of passes? He’s been in the
system three years. His arm is decent enough.w
v
wvParticipantSince 1990, the Rams have had 4 seasons with a winning record.
In that span, they have had 13 seasons in which they had 10 or more losses.
This year will make it 14 double-digit loss seasons in 25 years.
In only 3 of those seasons did the Rams win a playoff game. Out of 4 postseason appearances.
In the 60s, 70s, and 80s, the Rams failed to win a Super Bowl. But it was almost always a team to be proud of. Nobody wanted to play the Rams.
I don’t think I have a point to make. I am just at a loss that a football team could be this bad, this often, for so long.
How about those Kings, huh? That’s a good hockey team down there.Yeah, it sucks alright.
I got a feeling they come out
mean and ornery against SF,
but they wont be able to sustain
it and things will get away from
them again. Sigh.w

wvParticipantthis injury thing is just very depressing. but i am excited to see barrett jones line up at center going forward. i’m also excited to see robinson play at left tackle. and also looking forward to seeing some more stedman bailey and possibly tavon austin at wr.
Agreed.
Its an interesting situation. Its ‘possible’
that GR will play better than Long
and BJones will play better than Wells,
and Stedman will do ok, replacing Quick. Its possible.
They need Saffold to be ok, though.
And Hayes. And they need JJ and Trumaine back. All might not be lost.

Not to mention Hayes on defense.Nine more games.
O dear.
Two more wins?
w
vThis is 2011 redux.
BTW it Hayes is hurt, so is Westbrooks. That means they have 3 injured left DEs.
They have lost or currently have injured:
1 WR
2 QBs
3 OL
3 left DEs
2 free safeties
3 CBs, including one on IRBecause of shifts and replacements, that has an effect on:
CB1, CB2, FS, left DE, LOT, LOG, OC, ROG, WR, & QB.
10 positions.
I don’t know how many of the injured come back when so who knows about how long this will last.
3-4 positions with replacements? That’s just the NFL. Beyond that? It’s not the same team.
And the defense was a mess before all that.
I hope they can at least show some heart,
play with pride, be scrappy.Looks like another top six pick next year.
Maybe they trade down a bit and pick up
some O Linemen and LBs. Or maybe they
take a QB high. I dunno.I doubt if AustinD finishes the year
healthy.w

wvParticipantKendricks: “We struggled all across the board. It was loud out there. We couldn’t get the signals out. We couldn’t get the personnel out. So the game wasn’t really flowing for us as it may have for them. But that’s on us. We’re professionals. We play ball, too. We have to be ready for that type of stuff. I just don’t think we were ready for everything they threw at us.”

wvParticipantIf I was going to trade Zac Stacy it would be for a linebacker who could play and start. Ogletree may be having playbook issues I think. Not sure he comprehends his role right now.
Grits
Well Ogletree made Wilson
look like Gale Sayers.Six games and the defense is still
a mess. Like zn, i’m hoping they

too much. Im still hoping they

lost a step I dunno, but last year Ogletree was a heat-seeking-missile.
They guy has great hands and oughta be a turnover machine. So whats the deal with Ogletree? Is the problem Ogletree
or Greg Williams? Maybe GW doesnt know how to use him.w

wvParticipantI love to see the guy do well.
But.
To me, he is a very limited QB. He simply does not have the arm to truly stress good defenses.
The game plan for him against SEA was superb. He managed the game, and then made a few plays down the stretch. That’s great …
But it isn’t enough to support a true, Top 10 type offense.
We stole the game with STs and taking advantage of a few opportunities. But Davis is not capable of aggressively taking on a solid defense and picking it apart. He just isn’t that good.
I disagree. I think his arm is good enough
to threaten in medium and deep ranges.I’m not sure what he is exactly yet.
Could be a ‘Montana’ or he could be
a ‘Dalton’. Its just too soon to say.
…i still remember Terry Bradshaw’s first
season — it was ugly.w

wvParticipant================================
Laram
Another 3-4 defenseRams have had their issues in pass protection against 34 defenses.
We all remember I’m sure the sacks and fumbles that occurred in Philly against their 3-4.
The Rams were very weak on the edges against the Niners with their 3-4. The tight ends were porous in pass pro and overall they gave up 5 sacks. Tre Mason was problematic as well.
Well here we go again with probably the best 3-4 defense of the bunch.
Shotty is going to have to dial up another great game and keep these guys off balance or it could be a very long day.
Play action on early downs, 3 step drops, swings, screens and counters should be an ample part of the gameplan.
Please give Jake Long help and if te or back is in the pattern…CHIP!!
