“As a financial matter, McDonald was signed for next year, with a cap number of $6,475,985. There will be $4,609,971 of dead money, and $1,806,014 in cap savings, per Spotrac. But the 49ers have chosen to put financial considerations as well as football ability on hold as the crisis surrounding this season has been ratcheted upward yet again.”

    Kaepernik assesses the situation:

“It’s tough. He’s a good friend to a lot of people on this team,” Kaepernick said. “No one around him ever thought bad of him. He was always a good person to everyone around here, so hopefully it’s just a misunderstanding.”

“…More to the point, though, it is an example that the 49ers have had enough of not only McDonald but of the season in its totality, one which ended Sunday with a 17-7 loss at Seattle. Between the stadium’s shortcomings, the ongoing jousts with head coach Jim Harbaugh, York’s ill-advised postgame tweet after the first Seattle loss the McDonald issues, the suspension of linebacker Aldon Smith and the on-field struggles that turned a Super Bowl contender into a hard-to-watch also-ran, York has seemingly determined that his patience has been exhausted.

This could signal the beginning of a full-on restructuring/rebuilding of not only the coaching staff, which would have been expected, but on the organization’s general rules of operation. …”

    Yeah. I know.

    Is Mason the guy?

Maybe they need a 2nd round RB this time.

I pree-dict, Mason fumbles in the Seattle

I think Barksdale will be back. I think he’s better playing next to Saffold. I also think that he could work on technique issues in the off-season. I ALSO think starting ROTs are not that hard to find and they could add someone behind him in any number of ways.

Replacing 3 linemen in one year? A lot to ask. But it’s G, C, and ROT, which are not big challenges. I looked up PFF rankings on OGs, for example, and 75% of their top 12 are NOT 1st round picks.

In their line-building histories, both Boudreau and Fisher have been in situations where they turned OLs around in one year. Though…they ain’t gonna do it with 3 rookies. I think they would rather eat their own fingers than start 3 rookie linemen.

Yeah, the OLine problems are fixable in
one offseason. A good personnel/coaching team
with cap-space, “ought” to be able to fix
    this OLine.

Yeah, i would say the Patriot lesson is
have a great coach and great assistants
and have yourself a great QB who wont
    break the bank.

And even then, its tough to win it All.

Having said that, it is interesting how
some teams can manage to put together
good teams year after year, without
relying on high picks. There’s gotta be
some good personnel guyz in those organizations.

See link….“So that was frustrating,” Jones said. “I feel like I lost some ground there. I’m definitely starting to get it back; starting to get close to feeling like I was.”

When the regular season ends in 12 days, Jones will return to his hometown in Memphis and attack the offseason with his personal trainer.

“Hopefully I can have that same kind of offseason and training camp next year where I can be noticed as a player that’s really improved,” he said. “Hopefully that’s the case, and hopefully I can start next year. That’s my goal.

“This is obviously a huge offseason for me. This is a big kind of defining moment. So I’m gonna just really tear it up this offseason. Work extremely hard. And just kinda make it a goal to just get better in every area. Get stronger. Get faster. Get my body back to where it needs to be.”

Exactly where that potential starting position is on the offensive line remains a mystery. Remember, Jones started two years at right guard, one year at left tackle, and one year at center at Alabama….

I just thot I’d list the losses
just soze i could look at em

    Minn 34-6
    Dallas 34-31
    Philly 34-28
    SF 31-17
    KC 34-7

    Ariz 31-14
    SanD 27-24
    Ariz 12-6

The defense was just a mess
the first half of the year,
    though, i never thought they
    were being ‘overpowered’. Just
    a lot of mistakes.

(course, the refs did steal the Dallas game)

Just somethin Alyoshamucci posted when asked
if he would really take a C and OG high
    in the draft:

“Interior line is the richest position in the top end of the draft, players between 15 and 75 are going to solidify a lot of lines . . and there are a lot of college OTs that are going to go inside.”

    (on Scherff)
“He’s probably the nastiest O lineman I’ve seen in some time. He’s reallllly strong with heavy hands.

Basically he has everything I want in an OG.

I put him a hair behind Martin because Martin was so smooth. I put him decently above Warford for intelligence and tenacity.”
    —————————————
“BUT if we miss out on Scherff due to a trade down, or from picking another position, these guys are really pretty closely rated for me behind him.

FSU 54 ORG Tre’ Jackson 6-4 330 So.
    Jr.

    FSU 70 ORG/OLG Matias 6-6 325 Sr.
    Sr.

    DUKE 77 ORG Tomlinson 6-3 320 So.
    Jr.
    Sr.

I mean VERY close behind. I wouldn’t be all bent if we wound up with one of these guys as consolation while picking up another 3rd or 4th round pick, or because we waited until the 2nd because Kevin White or Amari Cooper fell to us. I don’t think all of those guys could possibly be gone before we pick in the second.

Also, of note, including Cam Erving now playing OC, who I am loving at that position, FSU has the best Interior Line I have seen at the college level.”

I agree that the team is reaching a higher level. Even with the last game. I mean people are bitterly disappointed that they did not defeat the team with the best record in football, which means they EXPECTED the Rams to beat the team with the best record in football. That tells me that the expectations bar has been raised…and rightly so.

We are moving from the era where people complain that they don’t have a winning record, to the era where they complain they can’t win playoff games, and maybe even the era where people complain that they can’t win back to back superbowls.

    In terms of the schedule?

I think they can do this new schedule.

Home: Arizona, San Francisco, Seattle, Chicago, Detroit, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Tampa Bay

Away: Arizona, San Francisco, Seattle, Green Bay, Minnesota, Baltimore, Cincinnati, Washington

If they are going to be as good as we expect, then:

    * they ought to win the games they ought to win (Chicago and Tampa at home, Minn. and Washington on the road)

    * they ought to sweep at least one division opponent. I mean they’ve done it before! they were 4-1-1 against the division in 2012. They beat Seattle and SF once each THIS year, and this year was the crazy up and down year.

    * they ought to beat some division leaders or at least division contenders. Heck they beat Denver in 2014, and New Orleans and Indy in 2013. In 2015, that includes Detroit, Cleveland, Baltimore, and the Bengals.

The one REALLY tough game they face IMO is Green Bay in Green Bay.

    I agree with all that.

    I dont have any doubt
Snisher, GW and BS can build a playoff team.
The next two years will bring playoff games.

Not sure they can win a Ring, though.
    But playoffs? — sure.

PS I don’t like what I read about Hundley.

Also, I hope they don’t limit acquiring linemen to the draft.

I cant imagine a scenario where
they went into the season without
a coupla new free agent OLinemen.
I think they will make the OLine
their priority. QB will kinda be
a wildcard, but they will want
a good Line. They cant get over
the 8-8 hump without a stout OLine.

And its do-able now. Its do-able
    in one offseason.

I thought that our defensive line whipped their offensive line pretty solid,” Arians said. “When they were making tackles behind the line of scrimmage, there was usually an offensive lineman holding onto their legs but somehow those flags never got called.”
“But we were tackling them for losses, so it didn’t matter.”

    LoL. This amuses me.

This Division has some real characters
    in the coaching ranks.

I just cant work up any antipathy for Arians

    Mini mock draft.

    1) Brandon Scherff OG. He’s not a tackle. He’ll slide to us as a result, and we wont have to worry about OG for a decade.

    2) This is an interesting round for me. A WR will likely be here, but I like some of the talent that will slide. A LB, and there will be superior talent at DE. I’m going to go LB though, to make sure we have a backup for JL when he ages . . Kendricks from UCLA is my guy unless AJ Johnson or Benardrick Mckinney falls. Of course, I could also go Shane Carden or Brandon Bridge here. I don’t have a real reason to bite on QB with Bradford still in the mix though.

    3) Gallek OC Boston College . . he’s going to rise up the charts after the senior bowl, and if I had to take him in the second I’d do it.

    5) Dupree DE Kentucky. 6-4 260 and mean on a terrible team. I would take either he or his counterpart Zegarret Davis (sp?) at 6-6 265. One should be there. Both are a little raw but supremely talented.

    7) Cam Worthy WR ECU Overshadowed by Hardy, the NCAA all time receiving leader, his ability has caught my eye every game I’ve watched of theirs.

UDFA Uzomah TE Auburn. 6-5 268.
    <span class=”d4pbbc-font-color” style=”color: blue”>This guy always has good stuff.</span>

    Hmmmmm. No QB? Really?

I would take a QB rather than a LB
I suppose. I refuse to believe
there are no good QBs in this
great land of ours. This is America.
Land of the Free. Home of the brave.
I believe there is a red, white, and blue,
    QB out there.

I didnt much like Hill’s facial
    expressions, either, but then,
I wasnt the one getting pounded
play after play. The OLine was
    dominated. Hill was rattled.

    Cosell noted that Hill wasn’t
    really accurate against Washington either.
The WR’s had to adjust to the ball in that game.
In the Ariz game, Hill was just about 6 inches
more inaccurate than in the Washington game,
and it made a big difference.

They need a Center and OG
    and a healthy Saffold
    to beat the Cards.

The Rams numbers are inflated by some horrendous performances early in the season. Are the other defenses still better than the Rams? Perhaps, but the gap has closed significantly throughout the season and I tend to believe that the Rams’ defense is on a pretty good par with the 49ers right about now. The Seahawks and Cardinals are just a cut above right now. And maybe we’re looking at different charts, but NFL.com places the Cardinals at 14th in the league in yards allowed per game at 350, with the Rams 10th at 340. If you remove all of the turnovers that the Rams have committed that were returned for touchdowns (which is seven or eight, I believe), then their points allowed are much more comparable to the others as well.

    Well, i wonder if the Seattle/49er D’s
    are ‘philosophically’ similar
and if the Arizona/Ram D’s are
    philosophically similar?

    Are the similarities and differences
    due to personnel differences or
    Defensive philosophy differences?

Are Greg Williams Ds and the Arizona Ds
always gonna trade Yards and big plays
for the chance to get strip-sacks and INTs, etc ?
High risk high reward defenses ?

As opposed to Seattle and SF which maybe,
    possibly are more fundamentally sound
    defenses ? I dunno.

Cosell said the rams didnt “commit” to the run
    and “got away from it”.

As i was watching the game, i was thinking
Brian S, was definitely not ‘dinking and dunking’.
Hill was taking medium shots and shots down the field
it seemed to me. I also remember thinking they
got away from the run a bit too much. I dunno.

Tough game to call for BS. The run wasnt
really working, but neither was the pass 🙂
