wvParticipantThat’s by Andy Benoit. He writes good stuff, and has a good eye. Benoit is usually a must read.
yeah, he is good, and he makes a decent case,
but in the end, I’d still say, its really
really hard to predict what either of them
might do under a new coach, in a new system.I mean Shannahan did wonders with RG in that
first year, before the injuries. And Harbaugh
had Kaepernik playing very well.I know we havent heard the last of either
of them. It will be interesting to see
how their careers play out.w

I wonder what they are gonna have to pay
Aaron Donald, when his bill comes due.w

wvParticipantthe Rams secondary is only as good as their pass rush… Jenkins has reaped the fruits of the DL’s labor….
The Rams have averaged 47 sacks per season since Jenkins has been a Ram….unless he goes to Denver or a team that can consistently rush the passer without the blitz (and Denver blitzed like crazy in the playoffs), he won’t have the same success he’s had with the Rams.
Yeah, I’m still obsessing about the Quinn surgery.
If Q is good-to-go, I think they can get by just fine
without JJ. They’ve got some good young DBs and they can
draft more. Frankly, I think signing Barron, and Hayes is more
important.Having said that, i do think JJ has all-star talent,
and it looks like he’s finally becoming more disciplined.w
vMarch 2, 2016 at 5:51 pm in reply to: Wagoner: Rams working to keep more than just this year's free agents #39892
wvParticipantit appears that the Rams, instead of trying to keep all their FAs, they are identifying their core for this year and next and trying to sign them for the next 3 or 4 years. This equals a sort of mini-rebuild.

wvParticipantI’m glad the director for Revenant won. I’m surprised Dicaprio won for the Revenant. He crawled around in the woods for two hours and grunted.
I would not have even nominated him.I thought this was the weakest group of “best picture” nominees I’ve ever seen.

Chris Rock:”…The last thing I need is to lose another job to Kevin Hart,” said Rock. He added, “If they nominated hosts, I wouldn’t even get this job. You all would be watching Neil Patrick Harris right now.”
That wasn’t his only zinger. The comedian called the Oscars the “the White People’s Choice Awards,” dubbed Hollywood “sorority racist,” and said that black performers want more “opportunity” to loud applause. Race was a subject that Rock returned to throughout the program with gags that included imagining nominated films such as “The Revenant” and “The Martian” recast with African-American actors like Whoopi Goldberg and Tracy Morgan, and a bit that found him interviewing moviegoers outside an urban L.A. theater about the diversity controversy….”-

wvParticipantJJ is a tricky one.
Ultra-talented, but mistake-prone.
But improving, and moving into his prime.
He hasn’t been a Patrick Peterson or D.Revis,
but he could be close to that in the next
three years. Its easy for me to see how he would
get a whole range of offers and widely
divergent evaluations.I guess they may lose JJ along
with JL and CL.w

vFebruary 26, 2016 at 11:06 am in reply to: 2016 NFL Scouting Combine:Les Snead Press Conference Transcript #39608
wvParticipantI thot this was one of the most interesting things
I’ve heard Snead say:“…We’re in the NFL, so it seems like whenever you talk about QBs, that’s the piece. If I get a little bit of a long answer, I can tell you this. We’ve done a lot of studies, as many as any team, about QBs and what makes a QB successful and all that, over the past couple years. The goal of this whole thing is to win games, so let’s just look at QBs this way. We’ve done a lot of studies since 2012 — and that’s when Jeff and I got to the Rams — about how teams win. There’s been 21 QBs since 2012 that have started 45 or more games. So if their team gives up 25 or more points, there’s only one of those QBs who has actually got a winning record, and it’s just over .500. I’ll let you guys do the research to figure that out. If your team gives up 17 or less than 17 points, all 21 of those guys have winning records. Now you get into a couple categories, 21 to 24 points, that you give up, 11 of those quarterbacks have winning records and 10 have losing records. If you give up 17 to 20 points, all but three of the QBs have winning records. So to win in this league, it’s a direct correlation to how many points you’re giving up. So what we’re doing in our search for consistency at QB is also doing the things we do well, and that’s defense. So in that 2012-15 period, we’ve given up, on average, about 20 points per game, which is about 12th out of all NFL teams. I think, to try to put this to a close, since 2012, we have had five starting QBs, and in each of those seasons — four seasons — we’ve had two guys actually start, sometimes three. So I think getting consistency at that position is one thing. Finding good players is another. To sum it all up, when Case Keenum came in he went 3-1 down the stretch. So he stabilized us. We had gone on a five-game losing streak and he goes 3-1 down the stretch. That’s a start there. We do like what Case brought to the table. That’s why we traded for him last year, to bring him back, and he helped stabilize the position. So my answer, it’s not just one variable to win in this league. There’s a lot. The QB is important, but there is a lot of other things that are important, too..”

wvParticipant“Nick got, I don’t want to say overwhelmed, but I have a feeling when guys get into their third or fourth year, sometimes they need a deep breath,” Fisher said. “Because there’s so much pressure on the quarterback position, not [just] on Sundays, but on Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays to be perfect. I think that kind of affected Nick a little bit. Nick’s a starter in this league. He can play in this league. He’s proven that. But when you get in a slump, you’ve got to go to the bullpen.”
But why did he START OUT so well,
(Seattle game, for instance) ? If he
was having trouble learning the new system
it would have showed up early, not later
in the year. Just kinda curious about
what all brought about his melt-down.I dont want him back, btw. I’d love it
if they could make a deal with Philly.
I cant believe thats actually a possibility.I’d like a QB with a quicker delivery.

wvParticipantI dunno. Of all the ‘reasonable scenarios’
I’ve read and thought about — trading up for Goff
or Wentz, strikes me as the riskiest. And would one of them start next season? A rookie?
Maybe that plan would work, but personally, i like
the idea of using the top pick on a WR or DE
and then maybe one of the second rounders or a third
rounder on a QB. I just want to keep stocking up
on playmakers until they can find the
most-excellent-QB.Course what do i know. I have no idea
which QB is going to be the diamond
next year.w
vFebruary 23, 2016 at 8:46 am in reply to: Kiper sees possible value in Rams waiting to draft a quarterback #39468
wvParticipantKiper even sees value at quarterback beyond the first two rounds, perhaps more so than in other years&
“You’re looking at middle-round guys that are intriguing, would be guys like Brandon Allen from Arkansas would be a nice pick at that point,” Kiper said.
—
There’s 2nd round options and 3rd-4th rounds options.
Okay, count me in.
.
Yeah, one reasonable scenario seems to be
draft BPA with the first pick (DE? WR?)
and find some BAWs in the second round
(best available weapons) and draft
a QB somewhere in that 2nd to 4th round area.Which leaves Keenum the likely starter
for year one of the LA Rams 2.0w

v
wvParticipantI heard an interview this morning on Sirius NFL Radio with JLau. He did confirm that they are going to slide Ogletree to middle and have Barron play weak. I know that some people are worried about having two former safeties playing those positions and being too light, but I think that their athleticism will compensate for what they lack in heft and I wouldn’t be surprised if they asked Alec to put on a few pounds.
Another interesting thing that JL said is that he thought it was very important for the Rams to resign McCloud. He said that McCloud is who he communicated with and that he is the QB of the defense.
I think if they can bring most of these guys back, they are going to field a very athletic defense.

http://www.cbsnews.com/news/ted-cruzs-data-app-helps-campaign-target-voters/“…Cambridge CEO Alexander Nix said the company categorizes every American into one of five basic personality types derived from academic research and up to 50,000 questionnaires conducted each month.
“We’ve quantified the personalities of every adult American,” Nix said. “We can reach out and target those different clusters with messages about the things they care about most, but that have been nuanced to resonate with their personality type.”
For example, a Cruz campaign worker about to knock on the door of a house would access information about the household’s members through the Cruz Crew app, receiving prepared scripts about what issues each person was likely to care about, modified to appeal to their personality.
Even within issues such as the right to bear arms, Nix said personality types will tailor the message. For voters who care about traditions or family, a message may resonate about guaranteeing the ability of a grandfather teaching shooting lessons. For someone identified as introverted, a better pitch might describe keeping guns for protection against crime…”

wvParticipanti read it. definitely doesn’t sound good.
but again. there isn’t much risk. you don’t need to give him a huge contract. if it doesn’t work out it doesn’t work out…
Normally, i’d agree with that. And there was a time i was RG’s biggest fan — but. man, i have ‘never’ read so much negative stuff about a young QB,
in my life. The stuff i have read out of Washington over the years,
has been just awful.I am not sure ‘there is no risk’ in bringing him in — I mean,
what if he outplays the other QBs in preseason, and they give
him the job — and then he becomes a cancer in the locker-room
and the drama-queen stuff starts and dogs and cats start
falling from the sky? What then?At any rate, if they did bring him in, Imho, theyd
have to totally redesign the offense. I mean, they’d
have to make it RG3 friendly and i dont even know
if his knee would hold up in an RG3-friendly offense.
