I am very interested in what happens to the DNC. I mean, zooey is right about us being ‘Dead’ — ….unless…..real…actual…awakening and change take place in the Dem Party.

I dont expect real change. The powers-that-be are very good at deflecting blame, etc.

But it bears watching. Will the Dems wake up?

Carry on, people. Dark day. But it woulda been a dark day either way.

I heard on NPR that Trump is considering John Bolton for secretary of state or some big cabinet post. John…Bolton.

Ignorant times, ahead, people. Anti-science times. Climate change denial. Evangelical-wacko Federal Judge appointments. Lower taxes for the rich, higher for the poor. Environmental regulations gutted. More pollution. More fracking. More coal. More mountaintop removal. More toxic waste.

So what are the silver-linings? Clinton era finally over. Thank-god.
MAYBE the DNC corrupt party hacks lose some power. MAYBE the Dems look in the mirror, move to the left, and start grooming Eliz Warren or someone for the next election.
    What else?

Well yeah, most of those games are ‘winnable’ but the last four were ‘winnable’.
    Ya know.

I just dont see it turning around now. I think if they could have gotten the running game goin they would have by now. I think its too late.

I think its the end of the world

I’m guessing there are several books with that title. Are you talking about the classic by C. L. R James? That’s definitely on my list. Recently bought Frantz Fanon’s The Wretched of the Earth (with an intro by Sartre), which is often listed along with James’ work as seminal, leftist, must-read books.

Gotta get back to my reading. A New Year’s resolution, perhaps. It brings me a great deal of satisfaction, and this current political stuff does the opposite. It’s not healthy for me to take time away from great art, etc. etc.

    Hope all is well —

    WV,

It may sounds weird, but that makes me feel better. Knowing you also have struggles with this stuff.

Most of the time when I read your posts, I’m amazed at their “grounded” aspect. Off the top of my head, it’s like you’re a comedic Yoda and you’ve internalized that old saying our wiser high-school buddies would always write in our yearbooks.

    ;>)

Anyway, it’s going to be a tremendous relief when this lunacy is over with. Gotta get back to my writing and step up reading as well. Currently reading Alice Kaplan’s Looking for The Stranger. It’s kinda like a biography of a novel. On a bit of a Camus kick at the moment.

    ——————-
OMG, Billy you have no idea how hard it is for me to even read the titles of rightwing articles or even hear the NAME Bill O’Reilly, etc, etc.

I mean this is serious stuff right. Its not football. Its real life policy stuff that affects who lives and who dies and who gets to live longer and who gets gets dehumanized, etc. Serious stuff. So, yeah, it all grabs me in the Gut and twists me.

So, i can either go nutz and become Mr Hateful Angry Leftist, or i can… find another path.

I try and figure out very quickly when its pointless to go any further and when its not.

And i try to find my happy-place and stay there for as long as i can 🙂

I’m reading the “Black Jacobins” btw. Fine book. About the only slave revolution that was successful. The slaves rose up and took over Haiti and fought off the Brits, French and Spanish.

Here, on this site, I fear I’ve fallen back into some bad old habits, and I need to take my own advice:

Be a leftist who doesn’t waste any time with endless wingnut bullshit. Gotta stop posting about that aspect of politics, and the end of this crazed election will make that a hell of a lot easier for me.

    —————-
I actually have intense negative Italian hot-headed emotions about all the rightwing tactics and stuff, like the Fox crap and Rush Limbaugh/O’Reilly/Hannity/etc crappolla-fest.

My own approach, which has changed over the years, is to use such interactions and experiences as…oh…’tests’ of my ability to stay..’centered’ for lack of a better word.
I mean I HAVE all the same emotions you do, but i ‘try’ to find a way to stay tranquil in the midst of rightwing-fuck-the-poor crap.

Call it ‘political meditation’ 🙂 I dunno. It just doesn’t seem healthy for ‘me’ to get all crazed by things i cant change. Ya know. It is VERY difficult for me. You have no idea. I have to let a LOT of things go, or else i would be frantic trying to correct all kinds of people about all kinds of things. It just doesnt work. So mainly, i just let a lot of things go, and try to find some common humanity when i can.

I don’t think Keenum is getting killed though. He gets sacked but I don’t think he’s under constant pressures like Bulger was. I don’t think Goff will get hit a lot unless he holds the ball too long – which rookies sometimes do, but Goff taking too many hits isn’t a big worry for me.

    ————
Keenum is not getting kilt, but i bet a rookie would be getting gilt
    without a running game.

Fisher supported Keenum in postgame presser. Said loss wasn’t on him. Said he didn’t hear chants for Goff. @CVRamsClub #CARvsLA

Fisher has developed a blind spot with Keenum.

At this point it shouldn’t matter if the loss doesn’t solely fall on him.

He may not be the reason they’re losing, but he’s not helping them win either.

Start another QB. I would prefer that it be Goff because he is the future – I mean, obviously they didn’t see Mannion as the future or they wouldn’t have traded away next year’s draft for Goff, right?

But start another QB. Mannion, Goff, somebody.

And this isn’t a knock on Keenum. I like him as a back-up QB and would like to have him back next season. But he isn’t the right QB for an offense that has to rely solely on the QB to move the ball.

Goff has those kinda skills. Let’s see what he can do. And nobody is expecting Goff to shine. Personally I expect he’ll be really inconsistent. He’ll likely look really bad at times but we’ll also see flashes of what he can/will be. The playoffs are gone so I don’t see a downside to the kid playing now.

    ————–

Well we are ALL kinda screwed right now. Keenum isnt good enough to win without a running game. Goff is not good enough to win without a running game and he might get kilt out there with so many third and longs.

And Fisher obviously cant fix the running game this year or he woulda done so by now.

Ram fans are in for some dull, ugly football this year. Year five.

Yeah I’m not sure this coaching staff knows how to fix this offense. They badly misjudged this offense’s ability in the offseason. The oline can’t block, Gurley isn’t Gurley and Keenum isn’t the kind of QB that can make those around him better.

I didnt think they’d be able to run on Carolina, but i expected an ugly win by the Rams.

At home, rested after a bye, relatively healthy, playing a mediocre team, in a Must Win game. And the D gets Zero turnovers, and the O only has a field goal with thirty seconds to play.

At this point, comrads, i would not pick up Fisher’s contract. I would like to see a change next year. It wont happen, but I would like to see a change.

..the endless list of agenda driven “news” producers that inundate news feeds with bogus stories. Seems like there are thousands of them representing libertarian, tea-party, conservative and liberal viewpoints and most of their ‘news articles’ or memes are patently and sometimes ridiculously false

yet they are swallowed up like a Gino’s cheesesteak as the truth.

    ————-

Yeah, so theres two issues there. Theres the problem of a torrent of ‘news’ thats not news.

And then there’s the problem of humans not thinking critically and swallowing too many things just cause them things fit with what they want to believe.

I can see that, WV. That makes a lot of sense. At the same time, the one-sidedness of their critique gives me pause, and makes me less likely to believe them wholesale. In part, yeah. I’m guessing they’re expressing at least part of the truth, and telling us things that are important to know. Like you, I suspect (but don’t know) — just how much of it is true, though.

    ————

Sometimes i think its getting harder and harder to evaluate information, in this here
modern world. There are so many corporations funding ‘science’ and so many secret interests
funding ‘news’ sites etc, etc, etc.

We all do the best we can sorting and sifting and piecing things together as best we can
but it seems to me its getting harder and harder to figure out whats ‘true’ and whats not.

    WV,

I’d pay more attention to Assange if he were even-handed in his leaking. He’s clearly not.

    ———–

Well, I agree that Pilger and Assange play hardball with Hillary and softball with Trump.

But for ME that just means i ignore what they say (and dont say) about Trump, and i pay attention to what they say about Hillary.

In other words i do factor in the lack of scrutiny towards Trump, but that has zero bearing on whether they are giving accurate info on Hillary. I suspect (but dont know) they ARE giving accurate info on Hillary.

Well, i know nothing about Assange. I’ve never read a single thing about him till today.

He’s seems to have some interesting folks on his side:

    wiki
“…On 25 July, following the Republican National Convention (RNC), during an interview by Amy Goodman, Assange was quoted saying,”Choosing Between Trump or Clinton is Like Picking Between Cholera or Gonorrhea… Personally, I would prefer neither.”[196][198][199]

    wiki
“….Opinions of Assange at this time were divided. Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard described his activities as “illegal,”[62] but the police said that he had broken no Australian law.[63] US Vice President Joe Biden and others called him a “terrorist.”[64][65][66][67][68] Some called for his assassination or execution.[69][70][71][72] Support came from people including the Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva,[73][74] Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa,[75] Russian President Dmitry Medvedev,[76][77] Britain’s Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn,[78] Spain’s Podemos party leader Pablo Iglesias,[79] UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay,[80] Argentina’s ambassador to the UK Alicia Castro,[81] and activists and celebrities including Tariq Ali,[82] John Perry Barlow,[83] Daniel Ellsberg,[84][85] Mary Kostakidis,[86] John Pilger,[87][88] Ai Weiwei,[89] Michael Moore,[90] Noam Chomsky,[89] Vaughan Smith,[91][92] and Oliver Stone.[93]

The year 2010 culminated with the Sam Adams Award, which Assange accepted in October,[94] and a string of distinctions in December—the Le Monde readers’ choice award for person of the year,[95][96] the Time readers’ choice award for person of the year (he was also a runner-up in Time’s overall person of the year award),[97][98] a deal for his autobiography worth at least US$1.3 million,[99][100][101] and selection by the Italian edition of Rolling Stone as “rockstar of the year.”[102][103]

Assange announced that he would run for the Australian Senate in March 2012 under the newly created WikiLeaks Party,[104][105] had his own talk show on Russia Today in April–July and Cypherpunks[49] was published in November. In the same year, he analysed the Kissinger cables held at the US National Archives and released them in searchable form.[106][107] On 15 September 2014, he appeared via remote video link on Kim Dotcom’s Moment of Truth town hall meeting held in Auckland.[108]

The following February he won the Sydney Peace Foundation Gold Medal for Peace with Justice, previously awarded to only three people—Nelson Mandela, the Dalai Lama, and Buddhist spiritual leader Daisaku Ikeda.[109] Two weeks later he filed for the trademark “Julian Assange” in Europe, which was to be used for “Public speaking services; news reporter services; journalism; publication of texts other than publicity texts; education services; entertainment services.”[110][111][112] For several years a member of the Australian journalists’ union and still an honorary member,[113][114][115] he was awarded the Martha Gellhorn Prize for Journalism in June,[116][117] and the Walkley Award for Most Outstanding Contribution to Journalism in November,[118][119] having earlier won the Amnesty International UK Media Award (New Media) in 2009.[120]…..”
