October 5, 2017 at 5:47 pm in reply to: Planet Whitworth wired, Dallas game … + more on Whitworth #75579
wvParticipantIve seen two games in there entirety now – SF and Dallas. And the player who has impressed me most is Whitworth.
He is the opposite of GRob, to me. GRob always looked like he was discombobulated. I watched him fight with D Players and he always looked like he was on the verge of missing, or lunging, or falling or zigging when he should be zagging. He was powerful but not smooth, not balanced, not a LT.
When i watch W, its the opposite of that. He’s the SMOOTHEST LT i have seen since Pace. He should be called the Big Smooth. He never looks like what he is doing is hard. He just kinda glides around lightly on his feet and plays pitty-pat with the DEs. I love watching him. The guy is an artist. GRob was an off-balance Godzilla. Whitworth is a mammoth ballet-dancer.
I cant believe Cincy gave him up. I cant believe Buffalo gave up Watkins and Woods.

wvParticipantYeah, lots of fear. The Right is not really monolithic though is it. They have a diverse collection of factions it looks like:
1 Rich country-club crowd. Pro-Corporate culture. Folks that dont fall asleep during discussions about Taxes and the stock market.
2 The Eee-Vangelical Christians. Abortion, abortion, abortion. Abortion. They dont seem to know or care about much else.
3 The Pat Buchannon conservatives. Throwbacks.
4 The racist-collective. Nazis, Neo-Confederates, etc.
5 Working-class folks who fear Immigrants will take their jobs.
6 Military families. Lots of folks connected with the military just seem to be Reps.
7 And then there’s people that just cant stand the lying, cheating, weasely Democrats.
Fear of government, fear of immigrants, fear of blacks, fear of terrorists, fear of secular folks, fear of Muslims, fear of gays and cultural disintegration….
Ah well.

wvParticipantI think they should play Fisher-ball in this one.
Or somethin. I dunno.
I just hope the young rams are motivated and come out storming and ready. One would hope they are not fat-headed yet, with all the media hoopla.
This is the first time Seattle has faced a ram offense that was truly dangerous,
in a LONG time.Pete Carroll vs McV — let the series begin.

“….Left tackle Rees Odhiambo was released from the hospital Monday after staying there overnight for observation after having difficulty breathing after taking a hard hit to his chest area in the third quarter — he did not miss a snap. He was hurt on a hit from Indy’s Jabaal Sheard that Carroll said the team will send to the league office to get their view of if it should have been flagged. While there was a report that Odhiambo had a bruised heart Carroll said emphatically that is not true.
“He does not have a bruised heart, which is out there — whatever, somebody made that up,’’ Carroll said. “That isn’t what he has. He’s got a bruised sternum.’’
Carroll didn’t rule out that Odhiambo could play Sunday against the Rams saying “we’re not sure what that means for this week but it’s nothing beyond that.’’
Carroll didn’t say who would step in for Odhiambo this week if he can’t play but his backup has been Matt Tobin. Tobin played the one play Odhiambo missed earlier when he hurt his ankle against Tennessee.
After finishing the game Odhiambo complained of breathing issues in the locker room after the game and was attended to by physicians with coaches and teammates huddled around.
Carroll said Odhiambo’s effort to continue playing was “more than we realized. He just sucked it up he was having trouble breathing and he just sucked it up and it kind of caught up with him after the game when he started to calm down, all the adrenaline wasn’t pumping and all. But it was a really good effort by him to hang tough and play a good football game. … (Quarterback) Russell (Wilson) said he would see in the hustle that he was struggling and didn’t know what it was all about. He was struggling to catch his breath. So it was gallant — a great effort.”

wvParticipantGun Stocks are up after the shooting. As per usual:

House of Reps poised to pass legislation legalizing gun Silencers:
“…the House is poised to pass legislation legalizing the use of gun silencers as early as this week, a move that critics say could make it more difficult to identify where gunshots are coming from during a mass shooting like the one that took place in Las Vegas Sunday night.

wvParticipantAny injuries in that dallas game?
This is another reason McV is a genius — he doesn’t allow any injuries.

vOctober 3, 2017 at 2:01 pm in reply to: McVay's offensive turnaround of the Rams might be unprecedented #75430
wvParticipantDifferent angle, but the year to year reminds me a bit of Vermeil 1998 vs Vermeil 1999. From 285 to 526 points. Same coach, but nearly as significant a turnaround.
This season does have sort of a 99 vibe, doesn’t it?
If the defense improves they’ll be unbeatable.
=================
Not to me. Not even close.
They look like a 10-6 type team to me. Though there there is one similarity to 99 — the cake schedule.
w
vOctober 3, 2017 at 10:24 am in reply to: McVay's offensive turnaround of the Rams might be unprecedented #75421
wvParticipantMcVay, hired at the age of 30 to fix a broken offense, has the third-most points through a coach’s first four career games since the merger in 1970.
Said Austin: “He works us to death in practice. He works us ’til we get it. … He demands professionalism.
Two notable comments.
=================
Do you think they ‘work harder’ than with Fisher?
w
v
wvParticipantThe Robert Woods ‘touchdown’ was an awesome play too. Such great hands and body control by that guy. A wonderful addition.
Snead/McV — have they made any personnel mistakes so far? Looks like they’ve hit several homeruns. Woods, Watkins, the LT, the Center. Critical additions.
w
vCritical additions.
The difference between the worst offense in the league, and 4-12, and a top offense contending for the division.
Plus I think it’s safe to say that McVay is better at offense than Boras.

McV is a hall of famer, Zooey. First ballot. He could kick Chuck Norris’ butt.
He’s the breaker of chains, the destroyer of SOSAR, the Fisher-Slayer, The Rightful Heir to the Iron Horn.

w

wvParticipant…i had a jury trial recently where a white cop testified that one of the reasons he arrested a defendant (a white defendant arrested for ‘making terrorist threats’)was because the defendant expressed support for black lives matter.
I kid you not. The white cop also stated he arrested the guy to ‘pre-empt’ him from creating a ‘mass casualty’ situation.
A ‘pre-emptive’ arrest, based in part because a guy said he supported black lives matter.

v
wvParticipanti just hope, someday, people argue endlessly,
about whether it was Goff or McV, who was responsible for all those super bowls…w
v
wvParticipantI watched the game on replay, tonight. I had wondered how McV’s offense would look against a team like Dallas that knew McV very well, and had three Ram games to study as well.
I was quite pleased with how the Rams offense looked. Dallas stopped Watkins and Woods for the most part, but Gurley just kept gashing them.
I thought sure Dallas would force at least one Goff INT — but no. The kid, on the road, did not give the game away. He ‘distributed’ the ball, to use McV’s term, and ‘managed’ the game like a good point-guard. Goff let Gurley and the Oline and Legatron win it. He didn’t try to do too much.
The coaching has been talked about endlessly and everyone already has McV in the Hall of Fame — and i concur 🙂
The OLine was a thing of beauty. Just gorgeous.
Each game Goff gets to play, is like…oh, i dunno what metaphor to use, but its like gold in the bank er somethin. Each game he is learning. Growing. You can see it. His pocket footwork and patience were a little better at Dallas than against the lesser-teams earlier this year. Seattle will be another good learning experience for the kid. But each game he is gonna get better. And that’s fun to think about.
Kupp is already a joy. What happens when HE gets all the nuances down. He’s still learning too.
I dunno what the ceiling is for this Defense this year. I’m kinda hoping they can at least be smart and opportunistic. Maybe get gashed a lot but still come up with a few key plays. Just enough. Like at Dallas. Seems like the Saints won a ring with a defense a little like that. I dunno.
Perhaps my favorite play, was something that was not even mentioned on the broadcast. And it only showed up peripherally on the camera. It happened on the big Gurley TD catch. Anybody see it? 🙂

wvParticipantSo when someone says that socialism has always failed, I have to say, no. It hasn’t. Cuz it’s never been tried.
And there are lots of different views on THAT too.
For example democratic socialism, as opposed to theoretical pure socialism, has not only been tried and is successful, in some parts of the world it is dominant.
I count the success of democratic socialism heavily in looking at real economic policies.
