also. another fourth quarter game winning drive for matthew stafford. that puts him tied for eighth all time in the playoffs with roethlisberger, stabler, marino, and fouts.

Stafford is just ridiculous. Not in a Tom Brady efficient executioner way, or even a Kurt Warner way — He’s like…death blossom.

    That was #34, Tanner Ingle.

He’s been on the practice squad virtually all year.

Bet he never does that again.

That is, assuming he doesn’t wake up on the streets of Toronto with no ID and nothing but a blanket in his possession and no memory of who he is or where he’s been or what he’s doing there.

    Well that was truly embarrassing.

From now on, any lame, embarrassing, WTF-block-attempt will be known as — an Ingle block.

Who do the Los Angeles Rams play next?

    ====================
The Rams will play either the No. 1 Seattle Seahawks, No. 2 Chicago Bears, No. 3 Philadelphia Eagles or No. 6 San Francisco 49ers in their second playoff game.

Here’s the NFL playoff scenarios for how they could face each of those teams in the Divisional Round of the NFL playoffs:

No. 6 49ers at No. 5 Rams (if Packers beat Bears, 49ers beat Eagles)
No. 5 Rams at No. 3 Eagles (if Packers beat Bears, Eagles beat 49ers)
No. 5 Rams at No. 2 Bears (if Bears beat Packers, 49ers beat Eagles)
No. 5 Rams at No. 1 Seahawks (if Bears beat Packers, Eagles beat 49ers)

The Rams can’t face the No. 7 Green Bay Packers in the next round because of seeding.

On the punt-block. Who was the idiot who barely chipped the on-coming punt-blocker?

I mean, it was about as lame an attempted block as I’ve seen. WTF?

Defense is just not very good anymore. Chris Shula must have been doing it with smoke and mirrors for a while. 31 against Carolina, 38 against Seattle, 27 against Atlanta, 34 against Detroit, 31 AGAIN against Carolina.

    Ah well.

If the DLine is as good at pass-rushing as we think they are — then the secondary must be equally as BAD.

The Experts at CBS give it to Maye by a 6-5 vote.

If Maye steals the election, i will be storming the Capitol building, in my horns, on the day of the Super Bowl.

from the writers at least it looks like stafford is the front runner.

mvp and first team all-pro are the two things missing from his resume. that and multiple superbowls would be lovely….

and three more seasons as a ram. for me at least.

I guess they dont announce the MVP until right before the Super Bowl.

It all depends on which 50 humans get to vote. Ya know.

Its a very silly award, but I really want Stafford in the hall of fame, and i think an MVP would clinch that. Without it, and with only one Super Bowl, he’s border-line.

    —————
LA Rams Talking To Big-Name Candidates In Head Coach Search

    January 9, 2017 / CBS Baltimore

LOS ANGELES (AP) — The Los Angeles Rams are casting a wide net to find their next head coach.

The Rams’ front office is talking to most of the popular candidates for the NFL’s half-dozen coaching vacancies as they begin rebuilding from their 4-12 season.

The Rams already have interviewed Atlanta offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan, Arizona offensive coordinator Harold Goodwin, Washington offensive coordinator Sean McVay, and Carolina assistant head coach Steve Wilks. They plan to speak with New England coordinators Josh McDaniels and Matt Patricia this weekend, along with Buffalo interim coach Anthony Lynn and other candidates.

Los Angeles lost its final seven games and fired fifth-year head coach Jeff Fisher last month with three games remaining. The Rams have had 13 straight non-winning seasons and haven’t made the playoffs since 2004.

They don’t look close to a playoff return with an offense that has ranked last in the NFL for two straight years, including their homecoming season in Los Angeles. A topflight offensive coach could change that, and the Rams are clearly interested in the top offensive coordinators on the market.

McDaniels, the former Denver Broncos head coach, was the Rams’ offensive coordinator in St. Louis in 2011, when they went 2-14. After coach Steve Spagnuolo was fired, McDaniels returned to the Patriots.

Shanahan, an offensive coordinator for nine seasons, is another top candidate after engineering the Falcons’ high-powered offense this year. Atlanta scored 42 points against the Rams at the Coliseum in December, and Fisher was fired one day later.

Rams general manager Les Snead is among the front office employees speaking to head coaching candidates. Snead’s future with the team still could be in doubt after five losing seasons, but Los Angeles owner Stan Kroenke must be seriously thinking about keeping the GM in place.

The Rams likely don’t have the NFL’s most attractive coaching opening with a mediocre talent base around No. 1 pick Jared Goff and running back Todd Gurley. But the Rams will be attractive to some candidates with their high-profile hometown, a deep-pocketed owner and a palatial new stadium opening in Inglewood in 2019.

“I think the job is very attractive, but I think it’s going to take the right fit,” Rams chief operating officer Kevin Demoff told the team’s official website. “As the jobs stack up, I’m sure there are positives and I’m sure there are negatives. Quite frankly, if you have an opening, there are negatives. That is why you have an opening. The key is, what are the positives to your job?”

    the Vierra article:
“..I feel like I’ve heard players say before, you know, the University of Los Angeles Rams and there is a little bit of that college feel that we have because of the connection that’s made, the authentic, real connection that’s made from a relationship standpoint that I do think is unique.”
    ====

They were awfully lucky to land McVay in 2017. Its startling how many coaches he has to replace as the years go by. And so many of them have done well.

11 bad years before McVay came along.

    Martz 6 years 53-32

    Linehan 3 years 11-25
    Spagnuolo 3 years 10-38
    Fisher 5 years 31-45

    McVay 9 years… 92-57

Pats, Chargers, Bills, Texans, Steelers, Broncos, Jags.

Might be fun to play the Chargers. Revenge against the Pats?

Rams will be one of the Super Bowl favorites next year, with Stafford. Very high expectations.

But will Stafford want to play the next year. Or the next.

How are the Rams looking at the next QB transition ?

McVay has had Goff, and then Stafford. Not bad.

He hates running QBs, obviously. I will never get my running QB 🙂

Corum: 81 yards on 7 carries.

If it is “that close,” then sentiment will win out. And it probably should. If you can’t really distinguish between the two players this season, then you let the body of work over a career decide. I dunno, but I think Stafford will probably get it. Seems to me he is the Default…

One of the unsolvable problems is — its a stupid award. It just is. Its nebulous. WTF does ‘most valuable’ mean? And how can you compare offensive players and defensive players and different systems, and different schedules, etc etc.

There’s no way to take the silliness out of the award.

I still like it. I dont care. I like the tradition, the history.

Apparently, only QBs or RBs can be ‘most valuable’. If you look at the list of past MVPs its about 90 percent QBs and 9.5 percent RBs.

There is an oddity or two:
    1987 L.Taylor
    1982 Mark Moseley (Kicker
    1971 Alan Page

    This was a nice stretch:
    1999 – Kurt
    2000 – Faulk
    2001 – Kurt

    Also: 1969. Roman Gabriel

bill barnwell at espn makes a good case for maye.

basically he says that while the rams had a more difficult schedule, that doesn’t hold true when you focus on just the pass defenses they faced..

    it’ll be close.

Yeah, I’ve seen that argument, but to me its not persuasive. I dont even look at just ‘the defense’. For example, Maye played the Browns. The Browns have a good defense. But they are a bad team. And bad teams just make everything easier for quarterbacks, in my opinion. In a lot of little ways.

The Rams played good defenses on good teams. Playing the Seahawks is not the same as playing the Browns. Playing the Texans and Eagles is not the same as playing bad teams with ‘good pass defenses’. The pressure is different, the situations QBs find themselves in are different, etc.

    Cardinals fire Jonathan Gannon

    Seahawks 14-3
    Rams 12-5
    SF 12-5
    Arizona 3-14

Arizona fans. Man. Just look at the situation.

And i dont see any reason to think those top 3 teams are gonna suddenly fall off next year.
    McDonald, McVay, Shannahan.

Is there any kind of QB solution for them?
