    Yeah, I had the same reaction as the leftist-commentator. I’ve enjoyed Rogans journey over the last year or so. I started noticing he was moving more and more to the left.

    Well, I only read about ten paragraphs, but I am not 100 percent sure he is grasping the entire situation.

    The fact that the Totally-Corrupt-corporate-biosphere-destroying-Dem-Party has a slew of lame candidates is true, but the other, more dis-spiriting part of the situation is — the Red-White-And-Blue Amerikan voters themselves. The Voters are brain-damaged, propagandized, non-critical-thinking, talking-monkeys. (Not ‘blaming’ them – they are victims of the system. They didnt ask to be dummed-down. I’m not Les Baker saying their stupidity is their own fault. But, the results are the same whether its the systems fault or the individuals.

    The Big Picture is much darker than just a slew of ‘boring and bad candidates.’

    You canNOT have inspiring, progressive, biosphere-saving politics, when the voters are brain-dead Frankensteins, whose brains were sucked out and re-filled with jello, string, and silly putty.

    And anyway, the Dems do indeed have a pretty-darned-good candidate in Tulsi. And she will get about the same amount of votes as pretty-darned-good-candidates usually get. The Jill Stein Amount. Maybe five percent. Cuz thats how many critical-thinkers there are in this Nation.

    And so it goes, in the late stages of the Idiocracy Era. 🙂

    Have a nice day.

    “I must choose between despair and Energy──I choose the latter.”
    ― John Keats, Letters of John Keats

    “The train bore me away, through the monstrous scenery of slag-heaps, chimneys, piled scrap-iron, foul canals, paths of cindery mud criss-crossed by the prints of clogs. This was March, but the weather had been horribly cold and everywhere there were mounds of blackened snow. As we moved slowly through the outskirts of the town we passed row after row of little grey slum houses running at right angles to the embankment. At the back of one of the houses a young woman was kneeling on the stones, poking a stick up the leaden waste-pipe which ran from the sink inside and which I suppose was blocked. I had time to see everything about her—her sacking apron, her clumsy clogs, her arms reddened by the cold. She looked up as the train passed, and I was almost near enough to catch her eye. She had a round pale face, the usual exhausted face of the slum girl who is twenty-five and looks forty, thanks to miscarriages and drudgery; and it wore, for the second in which I saw it, the most desolate, hopeless expression I have ever-seen. It struck me then that we are mistaken when we say that ‘It isn’t the same for them as it would be for us,’ and that people bred in the slums can imagine nothing but the slums. For what I saw in her face was not the ignorant suffering of an animal. She knew well enough what was happening to her—understood as well as I did how dreadful a destiny it was to be kneeling there in the bitter cold, on the slimy stones of a slum backyard, poking a stick up a foul drain-pipe.”

    Put them on the defensive for a change.

    Yeah.

    That seems obvious to me.

    So obvious, in fact, that is raises the question, “Why AREN’T Democrats doing that?”

    And the only answer that makes any sense, is this…

    A goal scored against the GOP is a goal scored against their own benefactors.

    That is the only explanation for why the Democrats behave the way they do. They kiss the same ring. Nothing else explains their behavior as well, and no other explanation is as simple.

    ====================

    I believe so.

    And we-the-people put the Dems and Reps where they are.

    And we’ll keep doing it.

    This is what happens when primordial ooze evolves.

    Good video, WV. Thanks.

    Will take a look at the second one later. But from what I’ve read, the percentage of private sector listed (70%) for Venezuela is too low. It’s the vast majority of it, and they “nationalized” the oil sector back in the 1960s, if memory serves. It happened long before Chavez and Maduro.

    Here’s an excellent essay by Emma Goldman, explaining the difference between nationalizing and socializing. The former isn’t what actual socialists want. It doesn’t make an economy “socialist” to nationalize industry. That’s actually state capitalism — in its right or left-wing forms.

    There is no Communism in Russia

    https://theanarchistlibrary.org/library/emma-goldman-there-is-no-communism-in-russia

    Bottom line for me, in these discussions? There has never, ever been a “socialist” nation in the modern world. It’s only existed in small enclaves, like in Republican Spain in the 1930s, or the Paris Commune of 1871, or even smaller scales like co-ops, WSDEs and Kibbutzes. No “socialist” nation-state has ever existed.

    ==================

    i can think of lots of different kinds of societies that would be a lot better than a biosphere-destroying-poor-people-destroying Corporotacracy. I know you can too, BT.

    How would you feel about allowing small-capitalist-businesses and nationalizing the big stuff, like health care, energy, transportation, internet, etc.

    I think a nation of small businesses would be ok with me. Even though they are ‘for profit’ etc.

    Its just when they start the process of eating each other and the small businesses become Walmarts, and the Walmarts can then buy the politicians, that things become Murderous.

    Do you think it would be possible for humans to regulate a system so that small businesses would not become murerous-mega-businesses that destroy the poor, democracy,
    and eventually the biosphere? 🙂

    Here’s a guy (from the Mega-Left master-list) who sez Venezuela is not a ‘socialist’ state, fwiw.

    I often roll my eyes at how mainstreamers on the left and right just label this or that nation as commie or cappy. When the reality is often really complicated and nuanced and layered. We need many more labels besides “Capitalist” and “Communist”. Venezuela is a complicated Nation. According to this guy 2/3rds of the Venezuela economy is run by the Private Sector…

    I used to think Pelosi’s decision to not start the impeachment was an acceptable decision like Waterfield. But as the election starts to come into view, I’ve changed my mind.

    The Democrats official position should be that Trump is a lying, piece of shit, con man; a racist asshole. They should be going to war with him, not playing political games. Congress can accomplish this by starting impeachment proceedings and dragging Trump’s name through the mud everyday.

    Now, maybe Pelosi will make a smart, strategic decision and start the impeachment hearings this winter so people don’t get tired of being drug through the mud everyday. But the democrats should be stating over and over that Trump is incompetent, a liar, and a disgrace for a sustained period before the election by conducting the impeachment hearings and having people testify and talk about how sleazy Trump is.

    I agree that the Dems are generally incompetent and won’t take that approach. We probably won’t see ANY impeachment hearings. Pelosi and the current Democratic leadership will continue to walk the tightrope of saying Trump is unlawful and corrupt but they can’t actually do anything about it.

    The recent debate/issue about extending the debt limit for 2 years is another example of Pelosi’s incompetence and stupidity. Instead of protesting Trump’s handling of the economy, Pelosi and the democrats agreed to dump more money into the economy.

    The next year, know nothing Americans should be reminded everyday that Trump’s economy doesn’t work. You can’t just a borrow a trillion dollars every year without making an investment on the future–green jobs, re-shoring American factory jobs, etc.

    Pelosi’s decision to not do anything about Trump’s wasteful spending and tax cut for the rich just allows Trump to continue boast how he has fixed the economy. This will be his main boast for the next year. Instead of actively protesting this stupid credit card economy, Pelosi and the dems will just have empty, long-winded criticism of Trump.

    Boasting about how good the economy is will help Trump get re-elected, not the democrats holding impeachment hearings for 6 months.

    ===================

    That only makes sense IF you know WHO the ‘undecideds’ are. I mean, you well know, the Dems ALREADY wont vote for Trump no matter what. The Reps ALREADY will vote for Trump no matter what. So WHO will actually decide the next ‘election?’

    Who are these people who are still open to voting either Dem or Rep?

    Do we have any idea who they are? Are they a mixed bag? Or are they mainly this or that?

    I dont have access to ‘that’ info. But I’m assuming Pelosi does have access to that info. Though who knows, and she does have her own agenda, etc.

    So, i guess I’m saying we dont know what the best strategy for ending-trump is, cause we dont know who the undecideds are.

    The reason this was not a disaster is that most people simply do not care.

    ==================

    Well, I agree with this in a sense. I dont think 90 percent of the citizens cared about the hearing itself.

    Thats cuz 90 percent of the citizens have already made up their mind on the criminality of Trump. The Reps of course think its a liberal-political-witch-hunt. And the Dems think Trump is the Most Corrupt President Ever.

    No hearing is gonna budge the blue/red/90 percent.

    About that other ten percent or so. The deciders. I have no idea. Maybe they were out playing video games or at the mall.

    To me, it’s the little things, the easy things, the things people could do without causing themselves a single drop of sweat, but refuse to.

    Example: Perpendicular streets. There is room for two cars in front of you — to make a left or a right turn. But the car in front of you rests roughly in the middle of that area, blocking your ability to make a right turn, as he or she gets ready to make a left.

    Similar example: You’ve dumped your trash off at the local recycler, and want to leave. The truck in front of you is waiting for his turn to get closer to the regular trash container, which involves a quick left turn. His truck is in the middle of an area that could easily fit two cars. This blocks your ability to leave to his right. You honk the horn. He does nothing. You honk it again. He ignores you. Not that he could know this, but you’re on your way back from a chemo treatment and already feeling lousy. If you had been younger and healthier, this may well have ended up in a fight. You end up backing up and leaving another way, after the person behind you is considerate enough to back up and clear some space.

    Or, loud music. People can enjoy their music without drowning out all the thoughts their neighbors may be struggling to craft.

    etc. etc.

    ============

    Yeah all that stuff is goin on. The question is: Is it worse than it used-ta-be? Is it worse than the Middle Ages? The 1930s? The 80s? I dunno. I dunno how it can be measured.

    But i do think a biosphere-killing-system thats built on greed and lies and imperialism, would indeed influence/shape its ‘citizens’. I mean how could it not.

    Granted, there are worse systems. And better systems.

    I get about 100 kids at my house every year for Halloween. Over the last decade more and more of them have gotten ‘graspy-er’ and fewer and fewer say ‘thank-you’ every year.

    Last year, I only had one kid out of 100 that was ‘notably’ kind and considerate.

    Put that in the meaningless-anectdote category. Still, thats been my experience.

    Could be as we age, many of us mistakenly just fall into that “theze kids today are rotten” mentality.
    Could be as a corporotacracy ages, it produces more greed, harshness, desperation, etc.

    Hard ta say whats really goin on.

    Sex cases are just really really hard to get right. We just cant know what was in his head during the incident. I suspect he’s lying, but no way to know for sure. No way to prove his intent ‘beyond a reasonable doubt.’

    Not Guilty, just means “we dunno,” or “we ‘cant’ know.”

    Maybe a better law would be to create a charge where if a person has a medical condition, and they recklessly drink alcohol and do something stupid, they can still be charged for touching someone inappropriately. The culpability would be because they knew they had a medical condition and they drank alcohol anyway….etc and so forth. Put the responsibility on the drinker. It could put a stop to some of the “well i was drunk” excuses.

    I agree with every single word in your post Zooey. Especially about how TV has become our cultural teacher replacing families. Much tougher on parents to teach respect when TV makes it so cool to be disrespectful-as does the internet in that its a safe way to insult someone w/o fear of reprisal.

    Well, we probably see the same ‘symptoms’ in Americans. Rudeness, shallowness, violence, indifference,
    self-absorption, ignorance, anti-intellectualism, etc, etc, etc, etc.

    I live in the Poverty-plus-Opioid Capital of the world. Trust me, i see all kinds of symptoms.

    So yeah, there’s a lot of shit goin on, in Amerika today.

    What we disagree on are the CAUSES. I’m a system-blamer. Youre an individual-blamer, i think.

    At any rate, i dont think a return to ‘centrism’ (Obama, Hillary, Biden) is gonna change anything. The ‘system’ is what it is. Its gonna roll along the way it has, until….

    Well there’s a part of me that totally ‘gets’ the impeachment idea. I can see where yer comin from.

    But there’s another part of me that actually sees the whole effort as…oh…hiding the fact that this is now a murderous-imperial-corporotacracy. Its not a ‘republic’ or democracy in any meaningful sense of the words.
    And impeachment of one selected president wont change any of that. Its almost like impeachment hides the real problem. The systemic problem. So, part of me goes down ‘that’ hopeless dark road 🙂
