And that would be why pensions have to be taken away. They allow people to go off and enjoy themselves when they still have health left to be squeezed out and profited off. You can’t have perfectly good producers off doing their own thing. Make them work until they are without capitalist value, then cast them aside.

    Why are humans so demented?

    ========================

    Corporate-Capitalism + Capitalist-Christianity = ?

The capitalist-religion-thing kinda helps to super-charge the toxicity of capitalism. Ya know. Jesus as the guy who values ‘hard work’ and ‘keeping yer nose to the grindstone.’ The value of everyone, including immigrants, is judged on “how hard they work.”

Halloween — I have yet to see an American child come to my door dressed up as: Marx, Jesus, Any Intellectual, Any Writer, Any Artist.

This year it was all ‘Super-Heroes’ or Zombies.

I dont know what any of that means.

Am i the only one who watches birds on this board? What the hell is wrong with you people.

    You’re kidding, right?

You may not realize this but birding is my number one passion. When I lived in PA I was a member of the West Branch Bird Club and took part in breeding bird surveys and the christmas bird count for the Audubon Society.

Making fun of West Virginia and the people who live in it is only my number two passion.

    Sooo…whatcha been reading?

    Bake any good books lately?

    ==========================

I’m skimming “Life of the Skies: Birding at the End of Nature.”

I just learned that “all flightless birds — all ratites — come from Gondwana. Gondwana or Gondwanaland as its sometimes called, no longer exists, but turns out to have been arguably the most important geological structure in the last billion years.”

Apparently Florida was part of GondwanaLand. Which “is why prehistoric camel bones have been found in Florida.”

So, Florida is part of GondwanaLand. Remember that. That explains a lot.

We have to get ahead of Minn or Seattle at this time for a wildcard. Unless the offensive line improves significantly, 10 – 6.

Yeah, and the Cardinal games are gonna be crucial, I think. They have to sweep the Cards. I dont think a split will do it. And sweeping the Cards wont be easy.

Well, my own interpretation of Dore is that he thinks the Republithugs are so loathesome its just a ‘given.’ He’s a leftist.

Its true he doesnt do shows slamming the Reps. And its a fair critique that maybe he should be more explicit about the damage they do. But the same critique could be made of me. In my daily life I squabble ‘way’ more with dem-libs than i do with thug-reps. But it aint because I like the Reps more. I cant put my finger on ‘exactly’ why that dynamic exists for me (and Dore, and other leftists).

It has ‘somethin’ to do with the fact that in the past, when I have criticized Reps, people around here always congratulated me, and then they’d go into a speech about how great Obama or Clinton or Gore was/is….etc. They always seemed to have the Hillary-smugness and they exhibited this lib-notion that Trumpies are all ‘deplorables’ — meanwhile they are congratulating themselves for being smart Obama-sniffers. It…just…sets…me…off. Its a flaw on my part. Dore has the same flaw. Some others as well. Sometimes guys like Dore (and me) will get around to slamming Reps, when a Rep dies and the media goes into a love-fest. Like with McCain. I didnt remember Dore doing this, but I was pretty sure I’d find somethin like this if I searched “Dore, John McCain”. And I did:

I dunno. The Cards are no pushover anymore. Some good defenses to play.

    I would say 5-3 is do-able. 10-6

It could still be a good year. I’m not sure anyone is really gonna wanna play this team in the playoffs if they squeak in.

You forgot Gabriel. If you asked me that question when I was a kid, back in the 1960s, it’s definitely Roman Gabriel. Today, I’d have to choose between Elway, Manning (Peyton), Rogers, Montana and Brady. I want another year to see what Mahomes can do. But he’s almost there.

If I knew I had a really strong team surrounding the QB, I might go off-road a bit and choose Archie Manning. I think he could have been an all-time great, but was saddled with horrible teams, year after year. Great scrambler, great arm, smart.

Greg Cook is kinda in that category too. Though it was the injuries, mostly, that did him in. He had major potential. HOF level. Terrible injuries and team, if memory serves.

And speaking of smart. I think Starr was the smartest field general QB of them all. Montana, Brady and Peyton are close. But Starr wins that prize, IMO.

Most physically gifted? Mahomes and Elway. Wilson’s up there too.

I like your choice of Young as well. But I think Montana, if you’re going with a Niner, was better.

    ===============

I thought about Gabriel, but I still think Warren Beatty was better in the clutch.

I’ll be mildly surprised if the Pats and Niners are still doing ‘this’ well on defense in December. I would think they will come back to the pack a little more, as more film piles up and as injuries start playing a bigger part in the season.

Immigration fears may put Trump over the top. Seems like thats huge to a lot of people that might vote either way.

I think if there’s one topic that could sink the Dems its that one.

I’m no fan of Zuckerberg (or aaron sorkin – The West Wing was like a Norman Rockwell painting of the System), but what exactly is Zuckerberg supposed to do with Facebook?

The NY Times prints propaganda every single day, too. Maybe its not the ‘kind’ of bullshit Facebook has, but its still a type of bullshit. Sorkin will never ‘see’ that.

    The problem aint facebook.

Its way way way bigger than that.

No doubt the NYT would like people to stop reading so much FB, and pay more attention to the official propaganda organ of the system 🙂

McVay on not playin Gurley in the 4th quarter — “It just kind of worked out that way,” he said. “… I always say it’s the flow of the game and that was really what it ended up being.”

Ya know what McV sez about the G-thing shouldnt vex me. He’s a coach and they always rely on coach-speak, and i get that. He doesnt owe the media anything.

So why do total bullshit answers like that one, annoy me so much? That answer was UTTERLY meaningless. “it worked out that way.” “it was just the flow of the game.”

    Utter bullshit.

After scrutinizing the game-pass game, and synthesizing the complexities, and lab results from particle Linebacker analysis from the folks at CERN,
i have grasped AND beheld, one conclusion: The Rams are better than the Bengals.

    I truly believe that.

I agree with what’s been said in this thread:

1)Uninspired play from the Defense, but the talent on D sparkled on enough plays to win.
2)Kupp was one of them NFL-mismatches in this game. Cincy just didnt have the answers for him. Course it helps when the DB falls on his face. But its Cincy, so you expect a couple of those every game.
    3) Henderson is better than Gurley at running the ball. Where do i put that fact in my brain? I mean, is that a good thing or a bad thing?
    4) I dont understand how the refs dont call helmet to helmet on the Cooks hit.
    5) 5-3 — Thats about where they should be right now. Seems about right.

Cooper Kupp is at 220 receiving yards. Here are the top 3 games in Rams history:
    1. Willie Anderson, 336 yards at New Orleans, 11/26/89
    2. Jim Benton, 303 yards at Detroit, 11/22/45
    3. Harold Jackson, 238 yards vs. Dallas, 10/14/73

Geez, I dont think I’d even heard of Benton. He had a great career with the Cleveland/LA Rams. They loaned him to the Bears one year, i see.
    wiki:https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jim_Benton_(American_football)

“….n his first season with the Rams, he led the league with 19.9 average yards per catch, and was third in both receiving yards and touchdowns. He was named to the 1939 Pro Bowl team after leading the league with seven touchdown receptions.

In 1943 due to the depletion of players called to military service, the Rams disbanded, and Benton who had been rejected for military service due to a heart murmur, was loaned to the Chicago Bears. During the season, he caught two touchdown passes to help Sid Luckman set the NFL single game record of seven touchdowns in defeating the New York Giants and caught a touchdown pass in Chicago’s world championship victory over the Washington Redskins.

In 1944, back with the Rams, Benton made NFL history by catching 8 consecutive passes for 3 touchdowns against the Cardinal-Steelers. At season’s end, he was the second ranked receiver behind fellow Arkansas native Don Hutson.

In 1945, in spite of playing only nine games, Benton ended the season leading the NFL with 1,087 yards receiving. He had 45 receptions and eight touchdowns. He averaged 118.6 yards receiving a game with his longest reception for 84 yards and a touchdown. He went over 100 yards receiving in six of his nine games. His most notable game was on Thanksgiving Day against the Detroit Lions, catching ten Bob Waterfield passes for 303 yards, helping the Rams win the divisional title. This broke Hutson’s single game record and stood as the NFL single game record for over 40 years. Benton had nine receptions for 125 yards and a touchdown in the Ram’s 15–14 victory over the Redskins in the NFL Championship game. Benton’s 1945 performance ranks 7th all time in fewest receptions for 1,000 yards.

In 1946, Benton led the NFL with 63 receptions and with 981 yards receiving. During the season his most notable game was against the New York Giants when he had twelve receptions for 202 yards.

Benton was the top ranked NFL receiver in 1945 and 1946. He was consensus all-NFL in 1945 and 1946 and second team All Pro in 1939 and 1944. He was ranked among the NFL’s top five receivers in six of his nine seasons.

When he retired in 1947, Benton was the second leading receiver in pro football history with 288 receptions for 4,801 yards and 45 touchdowns…
    ….
….n 2005, he was named to the Professional Football Researchers Association Hall of Very Good in the association’s third HOVG class…..see link”

You know, the corporate-system has a way of rehabilitating weasels. It gets all nostalgic about its heroes. Like with Nixon, Bush2, etc.

Hillary has only to wait a while.

But she cant, of course. Cause she loves the power and the attention. She should do what Bush2 did. Paint horses and naked self-portraits and stuff. And just be quiet for a decade.

    Ah well.
