    The biggest win of the year. The win over the Saints wasnt as impressive given that Breeze was knocked out and there was another bad call.

    I liked this tweet:
    “Cameron DaSilva@camdasilva
    The Rams gave up 110 points to the Bucs and Ravens. In the other 11 games, they allowed 152 – or 13.8 per game…”

    Great win, from a flawed team. Wouldnt surprise me if Dallas hammered them.

    I watched hi-lights of the SF/Saint game. Sometimes its sad, that both teams cant lose a game.

    Bengals lost to Browns I see. They are 1 and 12 now. I think the NFL has finally caught up with the Bengals offense and defense and special teams.

    Giants have won two games. I guess one of those two teams will get the top pick.

    I havent followed college ball this year, is there a Great player out
    there that could turn around a bad team?

    Oh yeah. True.

    I wish they didnt trust Fox News. I wish the Dems didnt trust the Dem-MSM.

    It’s a shame, however, that people aren’t connecting the dots. If they did, they’d never go from distrust of the (capitalist) system to trusting right-wing wackos..

    =====================

    Absolutely. Indeed.

    But thats the evil-beauty of the system. Citizens cant ‘connect the dots’ because they have been inundated, drenched, drowned in propaganda and lies from the day they were born until the day they die.

    Is there a God of Lies anywhere in mythology?
    Cuz that there God would be the God of the Corporotocracy.

    Anyway, Rotten-Alex is a symptom of a very rotten system. So’s Trump. So’s the MSM. So’s the Reps. So’s the Dems. I’ll shut up now 🙂

    Yeah, he’s a menace, etc. But I’m more interested in why so many Americans have lost faith in the corporate-MSM and turned to wackos like Alex. Similar to Trump.

    Many many people just dont trust the system anymore. (I’m one of them)
    A lot of those un-trusting-people have turned to wackos.

    I guess this is ‘part’ of it for some people:
    “…But it wasn’t the politics that initially drew me in. Jones had a way of imbuing the world with mystery, adding a layer of cinematic verisimilitude that caught my attention. Suddenly, I was no longer a bored kid attending an overpriced art school. I was Fox Mulder combing through the X-Files, Rod Serling opening a door to the Twilight Zone,..”

    Jones gives them ‘meaning’ somehow. Turns dull lives into a grand sci-fi-mystery-adventure. Or somethin. I dunno.

    Another way to look at it, iz, capitalism made a shitload of citizens really ignorant and the chickens are coming home to roost.

    “…All the bragging about the supposed reduction of poverty is based primarily on manipulation of statistics by western institutions at oh so convenient times. They’re jiggered to show improvements when, in actuality, poverty levels have increased, and the floor is set far too low to begin with…”

    Yeah. Just pause and think about how hard it really is to get something approaching ‘unbiased’ information in a Corporotacracy. In ANY field.

    There’s a reason Westerners keep repeating the same myths and keep voting for the same assholes every election.

    Brockers has never quite lived up to what I’d hoped he would be. He was a first round pick and I’d hoped for more of a wrecking-ball in the pass rush.

    But he’s been solid and steady and coaches seem to value him.

    I’ve noticed him more this year than any other year. He’s seems more athletic this year. Healthy and fast.

    Course he’s invisible to the media playing with Aaron Donald. He’s a bit like Roger Brown or Diron Talbert, i guess. Good player playin next to a great player.

    I didnt realize he was so vocal. Seems like a good team-mate.

    “…Dick Butkus called them “the most dominant line in football history.”[1] They gained fame as the Rams went from a perennial under .500 team to an NFL powerhouse under coach George Allen. Roger Brown replaced Grier in 1967, and Diron Talbert replaced Brown in 1970. Also in 1970 Coy Bacon replaced Lamar Lundy.

    The line was ultimately broken up when George Allen became coach of the Washington Redskins in 1971…” wiki; fearsome foursome

    Good article, good thread.

    I like the fact that the writer actually noticed that it was Detroit (not Belichick) that really started the ‘adjustment’ to McVay’s offense.

    I am somewhat surprised that nowhere in the article is reference made to Gurley’s arthritic knee and load-management. I mean, geez, the guy was ALL-World before the knee deteriorated. Its like when Faulk wore down during the GSOT — itz a big fucking deal. You dont replace a Gurley or a Faulk. Not even with a Steven Jackson.
    So part of the problem is not going away. Part of the problem is they lost an all-world duel-threat RB.

    Then there’s the OLine mess which everyone has talked about. Age, injuries, youth, maybe some wrong choices.

    The good thing iz, an Oline can be rebuilt in one year, without a number one draft pick.

    The bad-thing iz, you dont just go out and find a Faulk or a Gurley without a number one draft pick.

    The Revenant took 5 years to finish. In part because of the climate being too warm in Canada.

    Dunno if people have seen the bonus feature documentary that is on the Revenant dvd, but its inter-esting in parts. Its quite ‘political’ and refers to climate-change and treatment of the american-indians…

    Enh. I guess what i object to (mildly) is the use of the term “educated.”
    I would have phrased it “college-educated” I suppose.

    I was bothered a lot by the “uneducated” thing.

    Point taken.

    Yet we ourselves talk about the corporatitized dumbing down of the public.

    ================

    Well, i have no doubt I’m a hypocrite in a gajillion ways, and i dont have any clear, unified, solutions-thots on this stuff, but when i talk about a dummed-down public i AINT talkin about the Trump Voters. I’m talkin about the Harvard PHDs as well.

    For example, if i was doin a video like that, mine would be about how dummed down the college-educated folks were AS WEll AS the never-been-to-college folks. My vid would be about how dummed-down you have to be to vote mainstream-DEM as well as how dummed down you have to be to vote Republican.

    That video seemed to me like the usual stuff we get from libs about how smart the libs are and how dum the Reps are.

    In my view things are way worse than just dummed-down-trump-voters. Thats only half the story.

    Having said that, I like that guy in the vid. This is just my usual magnifying minor differences, probly.

    I dont like the term “un-educated.” Things get murky when we start to say “educated” or “uneducated” in my view. College-Educated though, is specific and factual.

    OLine. Gurley.

    Themz two very big minuses. The addition of Kupp couldnt make up for them minuses.

    I think McVay just needs to throw out the Ravens game. The Ravens destroyed Belichicks defense. Nobody knows how to stop LJ right now.
    Though, I think it was James Harrison or some ex-NFL-pundit who basically said, the way to stop Lamar Jackson is to injure him on those running plays. Forget the ball. Just blast him a handful of times. Thats what he said.

    Thats probly gonna happen.

    I think the most interesting game of the year is coming up: 49ers vs Baltimore.

    SF has as good a Defense as there is in the NFL now, so if the Ravens destroy the 49ers, maybe it means the Ravens are just one of those generational teams. Like the 85 Bears.

    If the 49ers make it a close game, then maybe that means…we can look forward to another Ring for Tom Brady.

    Btw, did RG3 throw a long bomb late in the game after the Rams wuz already stomped — did i see that in the hi-lites?

    I think Capitalism has an easier road than socialism because capitalism taps into our darker-innate-selves. But I dunno. Maybe i just think that because I’ve been raised in a capitalist dystopia. Maybe If I’d been raised in a traditional tribal society I’d think cooperation was more of an easily accessible innate quality.

    w
    v

    I think humans are incredibly complex and adaptable. We have the innate capacity to be a great many things. The tribal society would select for altruism and cooperation because that’s what’s needed in a hunter-gatherer society, whereas self-interest is probably favored in a capitalist society.

    ===================
    Agree on the “incredibly complex and adaptable.” Agree on “innate capacity to be a great many things.”

    But maybe some innate-traits are more easily triggered than others. Sure seems like ‘fear’ is easier to tap into than, say, ‘understanding’ or ‘universal love.’

    Just the fact that ‘tribal’ societies exist may indicate, humans are designed to form ‘tribes’. Which kinda leads to ‘tribe vs tribe’ type behavior. One tribe fears the ‘other.’ Fear.

    I mean why didnt humans evolve with the dominant-idea being ‘universal love’ for all tribes, beings, creatures?

    the #Ram invested $$ and picks and attention into O-line over last three years. But between injuries and sluggish development this year, it just hasn’t come together as they envisioned.

    =============

    “Sluggish development” is the optimistic view. Another view would be they flat-out made the wrong personnel moves. Ie, the young players aint gonna get good.

    We dont know which it is yet.

    Minor speculation though: “So we call it the Capitalocene because it’s not some innate quality of humans that has destroyed the planet, it’s a product of how the system of capitalism operates….”

    One wonders if Capitalism, which thrives on selfishness and self-absorption and fear, doesnt tap into ‘innate qualities’ of humanity. I think fear and selfishness are much more easily tapped into than cooperation and ‘Universal love.’

    I think Capitalism has an easier road than socialism because capitalism taps into our darker-innate-selves. But I dunno. Maybe i just think that because I’ve been raised in a capitalist dystopia. I wonder if there is resentment among the players toward Weddle now.

    Mangini was asked about the Patriots chances against the Ravens and he suggested that maybe you have to risk hitting them with a ton of pressure and not sitting back in zone like the Rams did.
    He also was skeptical about L.Jackson having a long career the way he throws his body around.

    So will the Rams just fall apart now? Or will they finish with a winning record?

    I am still unable to process giving up 55 to the Bucs.

    I don’t understand it. That game was gibberish to me, kinda like listening to Nittany Ram.

    =====================
    Well, setting aside the important topic of Nittany’s folderal and claptrap,
    the Bucs are a weird team. They put up 34 on Seattle and 30 on the Cards, 31 on the Giants.
    Granted, 55 is ridiculous. It was the defensive equivalent of Gibberish.

    w
    v
    ========

    The etymology of gibberish is uncertain. The term was first seen in English in the early 16th century. It is generally thought to be an onomatopoeia imitative of speech, similar to the words jabber (to talk rapidly) and gibber (to speak inarticulately).

    Gibberish, alternatively jibber, jabber, jibber-jabber, or gobbledygook, is speech that is (or appears to be) nonsense. It may include speech sounds that are not actual words,[1] or language games and specialized jargon that seems nonsensical to outsiders.[2]

    “Gibberish” is also used as an imprecation to denigrate or tar ideas or opinions the user disagrees with or finds irksome, a rough equivalent of “nonsense”, “folderol”, or “claptrap”. The implication is that the criticized expression or proposition lacks substance or congruence, as opposed to simply being a differing view.

    The related word jibber-jabber refers to rapid talk that is difficult to understand.[3]
