Blatant block in the back missed by the officials on the punt return.  It’s the buzz of Rams Nation right now.

Oh well.  The Rams had their chances. Some odd game-clock issues at the end of the game and in overtime, but overall incredibly happy with how they played. Still, losing that game given the effort is a bitter pill.

Yesterday: we probably aren’t going to elevate Mason Crosby to the active roster for Sunday
Today: Rams elevate Mason Crosby to the active roster for Sunday

Shitty-weather game. Maybe that’s why they are rushing Crosby into the fray – given that he spent his career kicking in Green Bay.

Also shows they have absolutely NO faith in that Have-to-risk-it guy.

When did Raheem Morris become a ‘hybrid coordinator/head coach’ ? Did i miss the memo or somethin?

Morris is officially designated as the Rams assistant head coach. It just means he inherits the head coach position if McVay misses time for any reason. It’s like he’s the VP and McVay is the president. As a rule guys become assistant head coaches if they’ve been head coaches before, which Morris has. This doesn’t subtract anything from Morris being the Rams defensive coordinator.

    — OK, well, i thought it was like being the designated figurehead. Like Nittany is on this board. Ya know. Like assistant-hybrid-vice-admin. w v

No Nittany’s powers and responsibilities are different. Morris, for example, does not have power over life and death.

Yes, or to put it differently, Morris is the Robin to McVay’s Batman, as I am the Sauron to zn’s Morgoth (Melkor).

Given their cupcake schedule, for all practical purposes the Packers are in. That leaves the Rams, Seahawks, and Vikings battling for the final playoff spot. The Rams and Seahawks will both likely finish 9-8, but the Rams own the tiebreaker. The Vikings beat the 49ers but lost to the Bears so it’s hard to know what to expect from them. They get Jefferson back next week but things are still shaky at QB. At least at the moment, the Vikings own the tiebreaker over the Rams based on a better conference record. However, they could easily lose 3 or more of their final 5 games to finish 8-9 or worse.

Just expanding on what Nittany has said. As we know the Rams face both Baltimore and SF. But also Wash, NO, and NYG. If they lose 2 of those 5 and end up 9-8, as we know they’re in over Seattle. If they beat either Balt or SF they go 10-7 and it’s unlikely either Minn or Seattle could overtake that. Assuming the Rams go 9/8, to lose its 6th seed spot GB would have to win only 2 of the next 5 games. They play NYG, Tampa, Carolina, Minn, and Chi. Does anyone see 3 losses in those games? Though anything can happen of course, which doesn’t make it likely. Minnesota‘s remaining schedule is a meat grinder. I don’t see how they could come out of that in the lead for spot 7. They face the Raiders, but also Cinn, GB, and Detroit twice. The luster is off for Dobbs, who threw 4 INTs against the Bears. If the Rams go 9/8, then Minn has to win 3 games because they have a tie-breaker with the Rams. Seattle faces SF and Phil in consecutive games. They are capable of beating Pitt, Arz, and Tenn. But then for them to get the 7 spot, they need to be a game up on the Rams. Assuming the Rams go 9/8, to get in Seattle has to win 4 of the next 5. That means they have to beat SF or Phil while also winning the ones they look like the can win.

The key for the Rams will be getting out of Baltimore with no major injuries.  Winning there would be huge, but incredibly unlikely.  As you point out they don’t have to win this game as long as they beat the teams they should beat.

But this is the Rams.  You know they are going to have a clunker against one of the three teams they should beat (W, NO, NY).

Which means a playoff spot could be on the line for the final game against SF…

I think many Rams fans are underestimating how tough the Browns are.  Great defense, really physical offensive and defensive lines, and the Rams usually don’t play well against physical teams (see the last 8 or 9 games against SF).  I don’t care who their starting QB is – beating them will be a tall task.

Great blow out victory (37-14) and it was really much more lopsided than that.  The Rams missed a FG and XP and that last Cards TD was scored against the reserves.
Kyler Murray got to pad his stats against the scrubs but prior to that he looked absolutely lost.  His completion pct was sub-500 for most of the game.

I’m trying to think of who Kyren Williams reminds me.  Maybe Charles White during his ~1400 yd season?  Short, stocky, not very fast, but shifty…maybe tougher to bring down than White…I dunno…

QB Dorian Thompson-Robinson is in the concussion protocol, and there is a very real chance that means Joe Flacco is their starting QB. Plus, Myles Garrett (shoulder) checks out OK.

Damn. I’d rather have Garrett out than their starting QB.

Fritz Shurmur’s defense.  I remember Buddy Ryan said how he hated losing to their ‘‘read and react’ defense after the 89 wildcard game in which the Rams beat the Eagles 21-7.

That defense could get after the QB at times though.  They sacked Montana 6 times in the final game of the 88 regular season in SF. The Rams needed to win that game to make the playoffs and they did so – 38-16.

I think you have to ask yourself why would an offense be “out of sync” 10 games into the season?

Capitalism. Do i have to explain football to everyone on this board. w v

So you’re saying it would be best if all the passes going to Kupp be redistributed to other, less deserving receivers.

But, if all those receivers knew they were going to get passes anyway, what is their incentive to get open?

For chrissakes think before you type.

I think you have to ask yourself why would an offense be “out of sync” 10 games into the season?  Especially when the three guys who have the most experience in the offense (Stafford, Kupp, Higbee) are the ones who look “out of sync”. The guys with the least amount of experience Nacua, Freeman, Atwell, Williams (before going on IR anyway) aren’t “out if sync”.

I’m not saying I have the answer or that “out of sync” isn’t a real issue, but it doesn’t really tell us much.  It can simply be a wastebasket term where we toss problems that are hard to identify.

This season either due to age or injury, Kupp isn’t open as much.

Anyway I think it’s more about timing and chemistry due to not practicing/playing as much. Game speed. That kind of thing. They are not in sync.

Well, I hope that’s all it is but I have my doubts. It’s not like that was Kupp’s first game back. Yesterday’s game was his 6th. Plus Nine and Dime are best friends. They know each other about as well as a QB and WR can.

I would argue that Stafford was in sync with Kupp in his first two games coming off of IR. He had 8 catches for 118 yds and 7 catches for 148 yds respectively. The train didn’t go off the rails until his third game.  Something changed then.

I am getting the sneaky feeling that this year, they’re better with just Nacua and no Kupp. No idea why.

I have a hypothesis but not enough energy or the means to test it.

When Kupp is in the game he is the number 1 receiver and Stafford’s first read on most plays.  In years past that wasn’t a problem because he was usually open so the ball came out on time.

This season either due to age or injury, Kupp isn’t open as much. Stafford looks to him first but then has to go to his second or third read forcing him to hold the ball a little longer which disrupts the timing of the play.  Stafford can get through his progressions as quickly as anyone, but I think most successful pass plays happen when the first read is open. I would bet that having to find a second or third option reduces the success rate.

When Kupp is not playing, Puka Nacua becomes the primary target on the majority of plays, and he’s open more often than Kupp is.

It also seems to me that Kupp isn’t getting nearly as many targets as past seasons.  This would support this idea that he isn’t open as much.

Anyways, that’s my mostly uneducated guess about why Kupp has become a monkey wrench in the gears of the Rams offense.

It also means the Rams may have a tough decision to make re: Cooper Kupp this off-season.

I just think Stafford is a QB playing with a hurt thumb. We’ve seen Kurt try to play with one. It aint always pretty. Ah well. A broken Stafford is still a gritty, wily, brainy QB. I’m more impressed with this win, than some of uze, apparently. Tough, ugly win against a good team. I like Freeman, the RB. Looking forward to watching Mr Goff, on genocide-day. w v

I appreciate the grittiness shown by this team in fighting back to get the win.  That’s been the one constant throughout this season of good, not so good, and spit-takingly awful football.  A lot of teams, some with better records than the Rams, would have lost to the Seahawks, so I’m not poo-pooing the victory.  I’m just a little disappointed by some of things I saw.

Good point about Stafford’s thumb, though.

Happy for the win, but the only things I keep replaying in my mind are Stafford missing a wide open Kupp for a TD on a free play and then overthrowing an uncovered Henderson on a wheel route that might have scored…and McVay going empty backfield and passing when they were trying to run clock.  That’s some Brandon Staley level “huh, wtf” shit right there.

Kendrick reminds me of Dexter McCleon in his ability to do something great and stupid all on the same play.
