The #Rams and star S Kam Curl have agreed to terms on a new deal to keep him in Los Angeles before free agency, per The Insiders. He gets a 3-year, $36M contract with a max value of $39M in a deal done by Milk and Honey Sports. A big week for LA’s secondary.
Rams Bros.@RamsBrothers
The Rams went from not paying safeties (last one prior to this was LaMarcus Joyner) to giving extensions to Kam Curl and Quentin Lake within 3 months.…
Curl was one of the Rams’ most important defenders last season, recording a career-best 122 tackles with two sacks, two interceptions, five passes defensed and a forced fumble. In the playoffs, he added another 27 tackles, two QB hits and a game-saving interception against the Bears in overtime of the divisional round.
The secondary was a weakness in 2025, particularly at cornerback. But with McDuffie’s arrival and Curl’s return, the Rams should have a better defensive backfield in 2026.

Pro Football Focus’ Mason Cameron named Curl as a top free agent safety and stated Curl’s best landing situation is with the Dallas Cowboys.
“Curl, having played under Rams defensive coordinator Chris Shula, is a savvy safety who understands the nuances of baiting throws into disguised looks, as no defense over the past two seasons has run more coverage disguises than the Rams’ unit. On those looks, Curl has recorded a strong 74.5 PFF coverage grade….”
On top of Cameron’s endorsement, Sports Illustrated’s Eva Geitheim also named Curl as one of the NFL’s top safeties who are entering free agency.
“Rams safety Kam Curl turned in a strong 2025 campaign before entering free agency,” stated Geitheim. “He recorded 122 total tackles—second most among safeties—two sacks, one forced fumble and two interceptions as PFF graded him 11th overall among safeties and second-best at his position in run defense. The highlight of his season came in a divisional round win over the Bears, when he picked off Caleb Williams in overtime to help lead the Rams back to the NFC title game.”

Los Angeles Rams: S Kamren Curl
Curl will be inextricably tied to franchise postseason history following his overtime interception of Caleb Williams in the divisional round, and that one play nicely encapsulates his entire campaign. The safety has played to a 79.9 overall PFF grade this year, his highest since 2022 with the Commanders. His 89.4 PFF coverage grade at free safety is in the 93rd percentile, and he’s added a 4.0% run stop rate.

znModeratorKam Curl was the player of the game with a most outstanding playoff performance!
Curl was making plays all around the field! 4th down stops behind line of scrimmage. Smashing hits through the air to cause incompletions.
And of course the game stealing INT. What an effort! pic.twitter.com/1u0CLHZYWK

ZooeyModeratorI am glad they resigned Curl. I was hoping they would. I would also like to keep Durant. I’d let Witherspoon and especially Williams go at this point, and invest in some draft picks/UDFAs back there.

znModeratorCurl played 93 percent of the team’s defensive snaps in 2024 and 99 percent of them last season. He stepped into a leadership role during the seven games that star safety Quentin Lake had to miss due to a dislocated elbow.
Curl’s impact was never lost on teammates or coaches, as he often dictated stops and helped a much-improved run defense. He will help complete a Rams secondary that has already seen a major boost this offseason, as Los Angeles acquired two-time All-Pro cornerback Trent McDuffie from the Kansas City Chiefs ….

znModeratorfrom https://www.therams.com/news/rams-re-sign-safety-kam-curl-to-three-year-deal-nfl-free-agency-2026
Curl was the Rams’ second-leading tackler last season, and his 122 total tackles were the second-most among all NFL defensive backs. He also caught two interceptions in the regular season and one clutch pick in the playoffs that helped the Rams get past the Bears in overtime of the divisional round.
Curl moved around the formation frequently last year, taking 58.6% of his snaps at free safety, 26.3% in the box and 10.3% in the slot, according to Pro Football Focus.

vWhat I hope to see this year:
1. Better tackling.
2. Obviously, more cohesive and effectice CB play.
3. Along with that, a more effective pass rush…it fell off a bit in 2025 from a promising new start in 2024.Could be those boxes have all been checked.

vYou keep saying that. You keep emphasizing the “paper” part.
True Rams fans know that paper covers rock.

well. if on the field, the rams defense doesn’t live up to expectations, that would reflect very poorly on shula. there’d be no one else to point the finger this time.
maybe the rams could get another linebacker. maybe some dline depth, but they’ve done about as much as you can do. it’s up to shula to make this work.

Seems like the front-4 tailed off as the season went along. Other than the Bear game, it seemed like they were not the wrecking-ball they had been early in the year.
Maybe it was just nagging injuries. But i dunno.
