JackPMillerParticipantTwo thirds and a fourth for the Rams, per comp picks announced by the league. Reminder, Rams did trade a 2021 third-round pick to Detroit.

JackPMillerParticipantWhat I feel are our biggest needs, in alphabetical order. Center, Cornerback, Edge Rusher, Inside Linebacker, Left Offensive Tackle.
JackPMillerParticipantThe term fielding calls, to me means that teams are willing to give up a first round pick for Woods.
JackPMillerParticipant

JackPMillerParticipant5. O-line. I only see it getting worse.
That is why, we need to pray that Creed Humphrey drops to us at 54.
JackPMillerParticipantI thought this was a post saying Hav was traded to the Bengals for the 5th pick. Leonard Floyd signed a franchise tagged, and the Chargers gave us this years & next years first round picks. Ok, I can dream, can’t I.

JackPMillerParticipantMy dream, if it does happen, we would get Creed Humphrey C Oklahoma with our 2nd round pick, and Walker Little LOT Stanford with our 3rd round comp pick. That is praying they will be there.
JackPMillerParticipantThe Houston Texans have traded QB Deshaun Watson to the Chicago Bears
No, Jack, that was in an alternative universe.
The one where Deshaun Watson wanted a trade because he was sick of Houston getting multiple superbowl wins.
…
It was one of those posts I saw on Twitter, and thought I would be the first to beat everyone to it. So I got suckered. I feel ashamed.
JackPMillerParticipantBREAKING: The Houston Texans have traded QB Deshaun Watson to the Chicago Bears in exchange for QB Mitch Trubisky, LB Roquan Smith, a 2021 1st round pick, a 2022 1st round pick & a 2022 2nd round pick.

JackPMillerParticipantAaron’s son Zak is still their. So I assume he may take the reigns of being the OL coach this season.
So you want a rookie OL coach who has never coached OL before? Before this he was an offensive quality control coach, which is basically an intern.
…
I would assume that he was getting prepped to be a position coach. So if Zac gets named OLine Coach then yeah, he is prepared to do take over the job.
I wouldn’t assume that.
And an intern prepped to be an OL coach is not the same as an OL coach.
The OL coach is virtually another coordinator. It’s a high level position and you don’t hand it to an inexperienced intern who just happens to have the same last name as your previous OL coach.
If McVay names Zac the OL Coach, you would not trust McVay’s choice?
JackPMillerParticipantOne name I thought of was Richard Angulo. He is the Assistant Offensive Line Coach of the Baltimore Ravens. Another name could be Corey Matthaei, Assistant Offensive Line Coach of the Kansas City Chiefs. Not sure if it is too late to get either one.

JackPMillerParticipantso i’m guessing bobby evans is the new starting right tackle?
Even though it won’t happen, but it would be nice if we can trick the Bengals into giving us the 5th pick of the NFL Draft for Hav. Then somehow, we use that pick on Penei Sewell OT Oregon. The 2nd pick of the draft would be on Creed Humphrey. That would be a great dream.
JackPMillerParticipantCameron DaSilva@camdasilva
Kicking off my daily free agency preview series with Leonard Floyd, who’s hitting the market for the second timeIf we release or can trade Havenstein. Then Donald, Kupp, Ramsey & Stafford can restructure, sure we can, we should also be able to resign Troy Hill as well.
JackPMillerParticipantStafford just turned 33. It is rare that QBs go into their 40s. At best, Stafford will retire in 4 years. That is a guess.
JackPMillerParticipantThe real MVP of the Super Bowl was Todd Bowles. Just saying.
JackPMillerParticipantI’m not sold on Stafford. I hope he proves me wrong.
JackPMillerParticipantThey may keep trading them away!
Agreed. It may be a few decades before we draft in the first round again.

JackPMillerParticipantThis trade is horrible. If his name was Deshaun Watson, I would have been OK, but not Stafford.
JackPMillerParticipantUnless Jared Goff turns into Tom Brady, Deshaun Watson, or Patrick Mahomes, he will never be a Super Bowl winning QB. The only way that Goff does win a Super Bowl, is we have a superior defense that shuts out everyone. I believe after next year, we should consider moving on from Goff, and get franchise QB. Yeah, I’ll give him one more season.
January 19, 2021 at 10:45 am in reply to: Why I think the Center is significantly better than the right. #127035
JackPMillerParticipantI’m a Mike Menet guy. Would love to see us draft him. Yes, he played Center, he played at Penn State.
JackPMillerParticipant<strong class=”d4pbbc-bold”><span class=”d4pbbc-font-color” style=”color: #FF0000″>Deadpool</span>
<strong class=”d4pbbc-bold”><span class=”d4pbbc-underline” style=”text-decoration: underline;”>Offense:</span>
<strong class=”d4pbbc-bold”>QB:
Lets just dive into it. If there is a serious talk of an open competition, then there is a serious issue here. Note, I said IF. I have a feeling this is a signal for Goff to get his stuff together and fast. Because there is no way there is an open competition with Goff, Wolford and Perkins. Or a rookie somehow. I think Goff is safe for a season, but unless something dramatic changes, he could be jettisoned after next year.
Wolford – I like his off schedule ability, but I don’t think he is a longterm solution. And I don’t think he is Taysom Hill type. He just isn’t that big.
Perkins – Who knows what they have with him.
<strong class=”d4pbbc-bold”>RB:
Akers could be special. He’s for sure a very capable lead back. I loved the pick, and I still love this kid.
Henderson – I hope he can stay healthy and be a capable backup. change of pace back, hasn’t shown it yet, but there are glimpses
Jones – if Brown goes, I like this kid as a 3rd back.
<strong class=”d4pbbc-bold”>WR –
Kupp and Woods are obviously back. They are good, they fit the system and aren’t going anywhere.
Jefferson – He slides into that 3rd WR role, unless Reynolds comes back. But I doubt that happens. He’ll be just fine with a season under his belt. Rookie WRs usually take 3 years to hit their stride. He’ll be one year closer next year. No concerns.
Tryston Jackson – just a guy, probably a cap casualty.
Webster – saves 850k with no dead money, he’s gone if I’m in charge lol.
<strong class=”d4pbbc-bold”>TE:
Higbee – Someone needs to figure out how to utilize him better with that contract of his. He has shown the ability to make an impact.
Hopkins – He’s the #2 next year unless Everett comes back on the cheap. He was my #1 ranked TE so I am excited to see him with a full offseason under his belt.
Thats it. Everett and Mundt are FAs. I think Mundt could come back. But TEs are available cheap in the draft and in FA. I want a guy that can block. From the FB spot as well as in-line. Let Higbee and Hopkins do the catching.
<strong class=”d4pbbc-bold”>OL:
Whitworth is coming back for one more year? I think so, he’ll be fine. He’s a heck of a leader, heck of a locker room guy and a heck of a community guy.
Havs – He is fine, he would cost 3m in dead cap and save 5 million in cap space if cut, he could be a restructure? maybe. I doubt he is going anywhere unless they think Evans is ready to be a fulltime RT.
Edwards – He is starting at OG somewhere, I really like him and think his arrow is pointing up.
Corbett – He’s cheap at 1.5m, and the Rams would save all of that if they cut him with no dead money. I think he is upgradable, but if they bring him back, it won’t ruin my off season.
Allen – I’d cut him and save 920k, and put that money to good use. He is just not an answer to any OL question.
Noteboom – I just don’t know what to do with him. If he stays, he’d probably be a super sub, because he can be a OG or OT. But then what? He’ll be a FA after next season like Whit. Do you resign him? If cut, he’d save 920k. I think he is a super sub next year.
Evans – He is another super sub that can play inside and out and isn’t going anywhere. I like his upside.
Anchrum – a 6′-2″ college OT that isn’t long enough to be a OT, so do they view him as an OC? Either way, he is cheap depth.
As already noted, I think Blythe is gone. He just isn’t big enough or tough enough.
<strong class=”d4pbbc-bold”><span class=”d4pbbc-underline” style=”text-decoration: underline;”>Defense:</span>
<strong class=”d4pbbc-bold”>DL:
AD – Greatest DL of all time – thats it.
Brockers – He is solid, and costs 5m in dead money and only saves 4.6m. I am almost certain he comes back. And thats a good thing.
Robinson – this one is tricky. He saves virtually nothing to cut him, a restructure won’t work. So he is back. And hopefully being healthy, we see a real run stuffing difference maker in there.
Gaines – cheap depth
Joseph-Day – under rated, super cheap depth and a solid rotational guy. Exactly what a good team with minimal cap space needs. He is safe.
As earlier noted, Fox is a FA, but should be a cheap re-sign. If not, move on. I’d like to keep him for the record, but won’t lose sleep if he’s gone.
<strong class=”d4pbbc-bold”>EDGE:
Hollins – a mid season pickup that has a chance to really compete next year.
Okoronkwo – cheap depth, needs to stay healthy. If cut he saves 920k. I’d hang onto him.
Lewis – Get healthy, he has as much upside as any edge rusher the Rams have. He’s not going anywhere.
Floyd, Rivers and Ebukam are FAs, I think Samson is gone, and I think the Rams will try like heck to keep Floyd. And I think Rivers would be a really nice, cheap, sneaky re-sign on a prove it deal. If they don’t re-sign Floyd it might be time for another veteran reclamation project.
<strong class=”d4pbbc-bold”>ILB:
Kiser – I think he is too stiff and too injured to be counted on as a starter, but he’s cheap depth and will get a shot to compete for a starting spot.
Reeder – a real nice surprise this year, he is also super cheap and will compete for a starting spot or depth next year.
Young – Another cheap option that can compete for a spot or add depth. he’d save 920k if cut.
Howard – he is an exclusive rights FA, so all the Rams have to do is offer him a 1 year vet min contract and he is back. Otherwise he goes away with no dead cap or savings.
CB:
Ramsey – going nowhere
Long – cheap depth with a chance to move up the depth chart.
Thats it. Williams is a RFA, so I’d put a 1st round tender on him and retain him for another year or get a first round pick. That’ll cost about 4.5m ish Cannot let him go for nothing.
Hill is a FA and I think he becomes a cap casualty. I like him. But how do you justify the cost…
<strong class=”d4pbbc-bold”>S:
Fuller – showed some real high level play, and looked like a rookie. Maybe hit the rookie wall at the end? He’s not going anywhere.
Burgess – Get healthy and see what they have. I think he could be a jack knife back there doing all sorts of stuff for Staley.
Scott – He’s cheap, good on STs and played well when called upon. He isn’t going anywhere.
Rapp -oh boy, he needs to stay healthy. I think he is crucial to have with Staley’s defense and playing 3 safeties. Esp when JJ goes away.
Hughes and Reed – depth guys and cheap, they will compete for roster spots.
Johnson – the big FA in the secondary. I think he is gone, and that sucks. He brings leadership to that group, is a solid player and I think will be missed greatly.
I would not be shocked if Havenstein is cut, I’m on record, Hav will not be wearing horns next season. Chandler Brewer comes back as well. Who knows what they think of Mr. Brewer. We do need to think about drafting the future for Whitworth’s spot.
JackPMillerParticipantHopefully Aubrey Pleasant will be named the new DC.
JackPMillerParticipantRich Hammond@Rich_Hammond
I like him a lot and I think he’s a top-level coach. His public statements often are maddening, and increasingly so.The Rams hired Brandon Staley 53 weeks ago. Four years ago, he was a Div. III defensive coordinator. What a fantastic rise.
Rams Brothers@RamsBrothers
McVay’s staff is now notoroious for being poached. May sound immature, but have been incredibly frustrated with the Chargers since they moved to Los Angeles.First the stadium, then Hard Knocks, now Brandon Staley. They’ve also attempted to steal the Lakers. Headaches!
Tommy@RamTommyInLA
In 2045 every NFL team’s head coach will have came from McVay’s coaching staffGary Klein@LATimesklein
In the last few weeks, Brandon Staley twice emphasized that Rams assistants Aubrey Pleasant, Ejiro Evero and Eric Henderson were more than ready for larger roles.Lindsey Thiry@LindseyThiry
With Brandon Staley’s departure, the Rams will be onto their third defensive coordinator in three seasons. It will be interesting if Sean McVay decides to promote from within (Joe Barry, Aubrey Pleasant, Ejiro Evero or Eric Henderson) or look outside the organizationJourdan Rodrigue@JourdanRodrigue
If the Rams look internally for a DC promotion – among a great staff of candidates – they can look no further than Aubrey Pleasant or Eric Henderson. If they’d like to continue Staley’s system, especially – so much emphasis on DL movement and CB rotation. Two phenomenal coaches.Brandon Staley is going to put together a staff as well, and two names who could draw interest for OC job are Kevin O’Connell (current Rams OC) and Thomas Brown (current Rams RBs coach). Both have previously been highly endorsed by McVay especially as developers of young talent.
Cam Akers and RBs coach Thomas Brown developed a strong bond in a year full of challenges. On Brown, Akers says, “to have a coach like him is a blessing. He didn’t go easy on my, and I’m grateful for that. I’m grateful to have a coach that coaches me hard, that doesn’t allow me to come in and take days off. That’s who he is every day, he’s the same guy. He demands growth on and off the field, and just to have that kind of coach is a blessing.”
The Rams installed the Wildcat package with Cam Akers only recently. To win a math advantage up front for Akers, Jared Goff has to sell it out wide. I asked Cam if he slung it a couple times in practice to Goff – and how were his hands? (laughing) “Let’s just say J-G can catch.”
Jalen Ramsey again speaking with such high praise for CBs coach Aubrey Pleasant, who he says could and should absolutely elevate into a potential DC role. Ramsey has had the best year of his career, he says much credit is owed to Pleasant’s coaching and guidance.
Ramsey says JJ3 and Troy Hill have meant a lot to him. “Without Troy, and his versatility…I wouldn’t be able to be who I was this year” (in terms of how he can move around). “Nothing but respect for him…and same with JJ.” Says he’s played with great safeties, and that JJ3 is the most complete, the most versatile safety he’s ever played with. “He has been so versatile, and been able to do so much, it means a lot…hopefully they can figure something out.”
I’m expecting both Hill & Johnson to be playing somewhere else next year. My prediction, some team will give Hill at least an $8M per year deal, and Johnson a $10+M per year deal. Number 2 CB needs to be addressed.
