InvaderRamModeratori think we’ll end up being happy with this guy.
he gave up a cheap sack letting matthews through untouched. but hopefully the line as a whole tighten things up.
i think pro football focus gave him a positive run blocking grade which is more than i can say for saffold.
InvaderRamModeratorI dont even wanna think about the state of the message-boards,
if the Rams/Fisher lose at home,
after a bye, to the Browns.w
vI think there’s a good chance they will do just that.
If they do, I think a reasonable response would simply be to say, “Yeah. Saw that one coming.”
It’s a very simple situation. If the Rams are serious about being competitive, they’ll make a statement in this game. They have the talent for that.
If they don’t … we’ll know that the Fisher Pattern is still in effect. Fail. Tease. Fail. Repeat.
i agree. not a must win game. but definitely a statement game. lose and they’ve only shown that they’re the same inconsistent team that has frustrated us in the past.
InvaderRamModeratordenver’s offense might be worse than the rams.
Johnny Football is drinking again,
Cleveland loses a gut-wrencher in OTin Cleveland, and Rams had a Bye and play at home.
Now dammit, good teams are supposed
to win games like this.Right?
w
vyou would think. the rams should beat the browns.
InvaderRamModeratordenver’s offense might be worse than the rams.
InvaderRamModeratorthis would be wonderful.
get some more snaps for harkey.
and send a message to the team too.

InvaderRamModeratoryeah. i almost feel as though they’ll be better off this year with reynolds.
as for the future hopefully wichmann or the other guy will be ready by then.
InvaderRamModeratorthat’s pretty much how i feel. as of now, i’m happy with him as the head coach. and i fully expect this team to finish with a winning record.
but i might feel differently when the season ends and no progress has been made.
—————————-
Sometimes it just depends who’s available. I mean
if Sid Gillman or Bill Walsh is available,
I’d probly be in favor of a change, myself. My own view of Fisher is on record — I think
he can definitely build a “winning team” ie.,
a team that can win a division. I just dont
know if he can be more than a Shottenheimer-Chuck-Knox
type. I dunno. My biggest concern is with his ideas about Offense.
I am not sure about his notions in regard to the
passing-game. I dunno.w
vummm. yeah. i don’t know either. should be an exciting next 11 games.
InvaderRamModeratorOverall, I favor Fisher staying. Ask me again at the end of the year.

InvaderRamModeratorthe passing game with the rbs is another thing cignetti needs to develop too. there’s real potential there.
InvaderRamModeratorwell i am a fan of kendricks. i don’t think he’ll ever be a superstar, but he can be that hybrid player that fisher loves. do a little bit of everything and add to the deception that gurley and austin provide.
and this is what i’ve been wanting. other players to play off of that potent gurley austin combo. he doesn’t have to light up the stat sheets. just do enough to keep defenses honest. i hope that this surgery is successful cuz the rams are gonna need him. harkey too.
the biggest question mark i have is at receiver. can they get bailey more involved. he’s their most sure handed guy. get the play action working, but receivers need to catch the ball. the video seems to imply that’s already started happening, but receivers are dropping catches or foles will make a bad throw.
it’ll be interesting to see if the offense can continue to progress the next 11 games. if i’m cignetti, i’m concentrating on these three things.
1. offensive line has to tighten up their pass protection. get guys on the same page.
2. foles working on the timing with his receivers. his passes are just a little bit off. the potential td throw to kendricks for example was just a little bit behind him. is he just inaccurate or is he just throwing to the wrong spot? i don’t know. but a lot of times those passes are just a half a second behind the receivers. maybe it’s just getting that chemistry down.
3. find one receiver who can consistently bail the defense out with some first down catches. i think that guy should be bailey. i don’t trust britt. i don’t trust cook. i don’t know about quick. i’m hoping it’s bailey. get him some more snaps.
InvaderRamModeratori think what’s interesting is that they mix and match and disguise all the different plays making them look the same right up until the last second.
i think what cignetti has done is introduced the zone blocking scheme. that’s an element that schotty didn’t incorporate and seems to serve as a nice counter punch to the power schemes they run as well.
stretch them out wide and the counter them with a gurley power run. or hit them the other way with tavon. so in that sense he has found a different way to use austin. or at least that’s how i understand that. when you get gurley stretching the defense one way and then counter with austin going the other way, the defense is stressed in a way they weren’t before the wide zone offense was installed.
so cignetti has added a wrinkle that schotty did not have. and it might have actually increased the effectiveness of players including austin. although having gurley there doesn’t hurt.

InvaderRamModeratorthe defense should have no problems with the browns. i don’t care what the stats say. they’ve competed against some of the best backfields in the nfl and contained them. maybe they haven’t shut them down, but they’ve contained them. they shouldn’t have a problem with cleveland.
on offense, they should run them ragged. mason should be involved as well. even if they can’t get the passing game going, they should be able to run the ball effectively.
if they get outplayed, then i will be very disappointed. that would be a huge step back.
I’ll be disappointed if the Rams don’t win by at least 10 points.
yes. they should beat them handily.
i really will be disappointed. i mean barring some catastrophic injury to a key player. there’s no reason the rams shouldn’t beat this team. and not just beat them barely. they’re playing at home. against a journeyman qb and a lousy defense.

InvaderRamModeratorit’s worth watching. i don’t know if it’s true, but it sounds really good… haha!
a very nice simplified description of the different components and philosophies that go into their running game and how austin and gurley make it go. bottom line is they are both fantastic athletes and really stress and stretch out the defense. also sounds like they are able to do it in a way that makes it hard for defenses to key in on what they are doing.
just need to find a way to play off this and get other guys going. but a good foundation is a start.
InvaderRamModeratori’m ok with reynolds. saffold wasn’t exactly lighting the world on fire this season anyway.
and they got some good developmental prospects for next season.
InvaderRamModeratoryeah. makes me excited that this running game could be something special. maybe even a little unpredictable. good description too of how the passing game might play off this gurley austin combo.
InvaderRamModeratorI heard this on 101, the Rams had the hardest schedule for the first 5 games and now have the 30th hardest schedule left.
yeah. and that’s why i expect this team to make a run. really no more excuses.
InvaderRamModeratorto be fair i’m not saying that he would be fired. i’m just saying i would wonder out loud whether fisher should be let go. my personal feeling is that he should be let go if there was a viable candidate out there. and that isn’t even to say i would know who that candidate would be if he’s even out there.
InvaderRamModeratorFor better or worse, rightly or wrongly, I figure
Kroenke will give Fisher a fifth
year, as long as he hovers around .500 this year.I mean, a change now, might make things worse. Ya know.
The players know this system — would they play better
if they had to learn a new system? At any rate, yeah, the team has an opportunity
here to make a run. If they dont, I’m gonna
be quite disappointed. They have the talent.Run Gurley, run Tavon, dont turn it over.
w
vsometimes change can be good though. i’d guess that a lot of it would depend on who was available. i mean wouldn’t just make a change to make it but if there was a good young candidate available i would consider it.
but it’s too soon to even consider something like that.

InvaderRamModeratorwhen a qb is already trying to figure out timing and chemistry with his receivers i imagine those problems get exacerbated when he’s under constant pressure throwing off what little timing they’ve established.
i believe in foles. and i’ve seen enough flashes to believe there’s better days ahead for the offense. i think there’s a competent passing game somewhere in there.
foles hits kendricks. and the play was there to be made. you’re looking at 17-21 with 3 minutes to play. eliminate those earlier mistakes and maybe they’re even leading going into the fourth quarter. the rams don’t need him to be great. just a little smarter.
foles needs to take care of the ball. he and the receivers need to keep grinding in practice. and the oline needs to keep getting experience. i don’t think these are impossible things to do.
InvaderRamModeratorwell from game to game it’s too hard to gauge accurately. he’s gone against some great dlineman especially this last game.
i’m more interested in an overall picture from game 1 to game 16. so basically i’m saying i’m gonna wait until the end of the season or at least another 5 games before forming an opinion.
i think patience is needed with this guy. especially considering the position he plays and how raw he is.
InvaderRamModeratoryeah. if they can’t make a run here, i seriously gotta wonder if the rams need to be thinking about a new head coach.
at this point with the talent they’ve added it’s time we see some results.
i hope that oline is working out the kinks during the bye week.
InvaderRamModeratorby the end of the season we should have a much better idea of what the rams have in robinson. we’re not gonna have the whole picture, but we should have an idea. if he has made no progress by the end of the season, i will officially be worried.
InvaderRamModeratori want to see robinson, brown, and gurley making pro bowls for years to come. i want that.
InvaderRamModeratorlet me also add that this oline as a whole has gone against two really tough front sevens in arizona and green bay. hopefully, they gotta lot of tape now to look at during the bye week. iron out some of the mistakes.
InvaderRamModeratori still have faith in robinson. he’s got it all. and he works hard. is his head swimming right now? probably. but it’s only his sophomore season. the line as a whole is young. he’s playing next to a rookie. i’ll give him time. boudreau said he has more potential than willie roaf. i believe him.
October 13, 2015 at 8:03 pm in reply to: Wagoner: Todd Gurley is already the Rams' offensive centerpiece #32317
InvaderRamModeratorGurley added he specifically felt that way about a couple runs in the first quarter against the Packers.
“Just trying to get a feel for the game, I feel like a lot of times I might miss a couple reads at the beginning of the game,” Gurley said. “But I’ll get it together once you get to the end.”
this guy is still adjusting to the speed of the nfl game. the physicality.
but that’s to be expected this early in his career. man but imagine when he does adjust. and imagine when the offensive line starts to gel. or rather. hopefully it gels.
and he finally takes that knee brace off.
October 13, 2015 at 11:30 am in reply to: Wagoner: Todd Gurley is already the Rams' offensive centerpiece #32296
InvaderRamModeratorcombined rushing yards of lynch, charles, and hyde against the packer defense the three games before facing gurley.
110 yards…
InvaderRamModeratorWow. Hi, guys. Nice to feel missed.
I think you can assume that! We’re an old community and I think everyone in it means something to everyone else, and you’re a big part of all that. That’s my sense of it anyway.
I second that.
And also wish to state I miss California Tom. Pound for pound, no poster amused me more.
i don’t think i’ve been here as long as most of you guys. but i have been reading a lot of people here for going on close to 20 years maybe?

InvaderRamModeratori don’t think any running back period could handle that kind of a workload. i’d venture to guess that no one in the history of this game has ever had to shoulder 30 carries a game.
If it’s any consolation Fisher did say this
@nwagoner
On Todd Gurley’s workload, Fisher said he didn’t plan for 30 carries for Gurley and acknowledged that’s not sustainable moving forward.
i’m sure it wasn’t planned. but that’s why you give mason a set amount of carries a game. gurley then is the variable. now that’s flexible. like for example if the rams are blowing a team out or are getting blown out then mason sees more carries.
but mason getting 2 carries a game is unacceptable to me. not when gurley is less than a year removed. fatigue comes into play when the carries get that high. just concede the loss at that point and think long term.
