That non-call PI on Kupp at the goal line was exactly the same play that happened in the Super Bowl, with the difference that it was called that time.

Today an example of this team not being good enough to overcome a series of mistakes.

And a couple more bad calls, to be fair.

If they don’t blow that call on Lake, it’s a 3-and-out on the first drive, and that sets the tone for a Rams’ rout. Rams score a TD, and never look back.

    That’s a good resource.

I just tried this app for the first time. It unrolls the thread into a more readable format, but comes with a warning that this link may be deleted by Twitter. (I dunno if it means the tweet that contains the link, or the unrolled page)

This is very long for Twitter, and I haven’t even finished reading it yet, but it’s quite interesting, and says a lot of stuff I haven’t encountered elsewhere.

“I wear black in the outside because black is how I feel on the inside.” – Morrissey

    Johnny Cash

    Well, you wonder why
    I always dress in black
    Why you never see
    Bright colors on my back
    And why does my appearance
Seem to have a somber tone?
Well, there’s a reason for the things
    That I have on
    I wear the black
For the poor and the beaten down
    Livin’ in the hopeless
    Hungry side of town
I wear it for the prisoner
Who has long paid for his crime
    But is there because
He’s a victim of the times
    I wear the black
    For those who’ve never read
    Or listened
To the words that Jesus said
    About the road to happiness
    Through love and charity
    Why you’d think He’s talking
    Straight to you and me
    Well, we’re doin’ mighty fine
    I do suppose
In our streak of lightnin’ cars
    And fancy clothes
    But just so we’re reminded
Of the ones who are held back
Up front there ought to be
    A man in black
    I wear it
For the sick and lonely old
    For the reckless ones
Whose bad trip left them cold
I wear the black in mournin’
For the lives that could have been
    Each week we lose
    A hundred fine young men
    And, I wear it
For the thousands who have died
    Believin’ that the Lord
    Was on their side
    I wear it for another
    Hundred thousand who have died
    Believin’ that we all
    Were on their side
    Well, there’s things
That never will be right, I know
    And things need changin’
    Everywhere you go
But till we start to make a move
To make a few things right
    You’ll never see me
    Wear a suit of white
Ah, I’d love to wear a rainbow
    Every day
    And tell the world
    That everything’s okay
But I’ll try to carry off
A little darkness on my back
    Till things are brighter
    I’m the man in black

I have officially reached “Watch the 2023 Rams solely to see Puka Nacua accumulate as many yards as he can” stage of the season. I also plan to watch Turner and Young to see if they continue to develop. Other than that, I don’t expect much this weekend or the rest of the way. That’s not to suggest that I see this season as a disappointment, but other than the second game vs. the Cardinals, I won’t be expecting the Rams to win many more games.

That’s kind of a bleak outlook.

I think they will win more than just that game. They will beat AZ, probably.

I think they have a better than 50-50 chance of beating the Commies and Giants.

50-50 to beat the Packers, Saints, and Seahawks (they just own Seattle the way SF owns them).

They should lose to Dallas, but Dallas has a way of getting in their own way.

    Ravens, Browns, Niners…losses.

I still think they are going to end with 8 or 9 wins (which is what I thought before the season started).

    Cowboys lead all-time series 19-18.

    Rams 5-2 in playoff games.

Cowboys favored by 6 at the moment, i guess

Needless to say, I regard this game as a Must Win, since two of my idiot brothers are Cowboys fans.

Got to hand it to McVay, the asst coaches, and Snead.  They turned over the roster but were still able to field a competitive team.

So you DID find a positive, in spite of being a churlish man-child.

    Yeah. So. I dunno.

I like a lot of what I saw. I think the Rams outplayed the Steelers, and they lost due to unforced errors.

Which is what you would expect from a young team. But Kupp dropped as many passes today as he did all of last season combined. And a kick doinked off the upright. And so on.

So, it’s disheartening, but these are the kinds of games that I hope the Rams win in Week 14. This is a young team, it has a lot of promise – a LOT of promise – and I want to see the arrow heading up all year long.

I’ll take this loss. They should have won it. But I will take it. They played well.

But I want them to win this kind of game later.

The Rams are 15-10-2 all time against the Steelers.

They started out 12-1-2 against them. The Steelers have owned them since the Super Bowl.

Last time the Rams beat the Steelers was 20 years ago.

He argues the owners designed the new NFL to protect and highlight skill sets that Brady has.  Not skill sets Barry Sanders had.   The guy then argues Barry Sanders was the by far the more talented player, but the owners wanted the game to look different.

    I agree with that.

But I think that has to do with the fact that fans prefer sensational passing games over sensational running. Also, there are a lot more QBs who can do what Brady did than there are RBs who can do what Sanders did.

McVay jokingly clarifying comments from last week on impending fatherhood: “I’m not going to miss a game. My son knows better than to come during a game.”

Sounds like something I woulda said. I’m very pleased.

Demanding ownership? If he keeps this sort of stuff up, the owners will get together and Kaepernick his ass.

    It’s not even a thing.

Imagine trying to trade a player who is part owner.

    How does that work?

    It doesn’t. That’s how.

I also want partial ownership of the team that drafts him.

Williams and Hoecht were good UDFA signings. But they’re misusing Hoecht. He’s not an edge. He’s a tall, but undersized DT. Lacking strength/weight is correctable. Lacking bend and twitchy athleticism pretty much never is.

That’s what my eyeballs tell me, too.

I dunno. I’m no tape-watcher, or talent scout. But the guy is a football player without a position. Maybe if he had come up on the other side, as a TE….

Exactly. I didn’t expect anything from any of those names you listed in bold in the OP. I expected that some would come through, and some wouldn’t, and we would have a lumpy stew of promise and disappointment.

But right across that list, the performance floor has been pretty high, exceeding expectations.

Witherspoon, Young, Turner, Dotson, Williams, and Nacua have exceeded my expectations by a LOT. And Evans seems to have a rocket launcher with GPS. And as wv pointed out, the Rams’ competition has not been dross. AZ is the only team they’ve played that has a losing record.

They are ahead of schedule, and this makes this season far more interesting and entertaining than any of the usual rebuilding years we’ve suffered. I don’t recall a recent season without realistic hope of a SB appearance that had more appeal than this season does. Gotta go back to 99.
