What the Bucs fans are saying NOW (favorite quotes)
That’s a freaking 3rd string QB…nough said! If Tampa can’t pressure and rattle a 3rd string QB then we freaking blow! We are officially the worst team in the NFL in my book! Lost to a backup QB…now a 3rd string QB? Get the freak out of here!!
I seriously wish we weren’t playing Thursday night! We are about to be embarrassed on National TV!
Gruden looks like a GOD right about now.
Backup QB and 3rd string QB…
Let’s just have a kicker under center, no need for touchdowns.
I can’t stand McClown.
McCown was good. The OL was good. Rainey was good. But for the second straight week we let a back-up QB look like Peyton Manning.
Lovie was completely out coached. His defensive game plan sucked today and two weeks in a row a back-up comes in with limited weapons and slaps his Tampa 2 bullcrap around.
Can’t blame the refs.. They gave many gifts thruout the game

znModeratorA thought for the future, regarding draft picks. If they were that right about McDonald, maybe they’re right about Alexander too.

znModeratorHere’s a highlight vid of the catch:
znModeratorWe’ll see.
We haven’t seen Davis yet against an NFC west defense.
But here’s another consideration–who would be better coming off the bench in a game?
Hill, I think.
znModeratorGrits and TD called it.
Davis came through.
Good game by him.
znModeratorJim Thomas @jthom1 ·
Shaun Hill is active but Austin Davis still expected to start.Jim Thomas @jthom1 ·
Rams inactives: DB Joyner, CB Johnson, RB Mason, RB Watts, C/G Jones, DL Conratch, TE Bayer.Jim Thomas @jthom1 ·
So Rams have only Stacy and Cunningham up at RB. (Plus Chase Reynollds)Jim Thomas @jthom1 ·
DL Ethan Westbrooks is active for Rams. So is rookie safety Maurice Alexander (of Eureka HS.)Jim Thomas @jthom1 ·
Grapes! Rams in blue on blue again. Blue jerseys, blue pants. That’ll soak up all 91 degrees of heat.Jim Thomas @jthom1
For Bucs, RB Doug Martin (knee) is inactive.Jim Thomas @jthom1 ·
Other Bucs inactives: CB Rashaan Melvin, OT Kevin Pamphile, C Rishaw Johnson, TE Austin Seferian-Jenkins (ankle), and DE Michael Johnson.
znModeratorSorry, complete joke on my part!
Well it’s a very good one.
But you picked the wrong guy. (Or…the right guy, I guess.)
I am fairly anatomy ignorant.
I was ready to fall for it. I thought, okay, he made a bad throw cause of the quad, maybe if you check for throwing strength……
So…good one.
Now I am not THAT bad, mind you. When I got gout, I knew it was in my foot, and that it had to do with not eating enough red meat and seafood. But that’s all I knew.
znModeratorThis just proves it has been a fake injury all along.
Fisher: “Yeah–we’re checking out Shaun’s shoulder to see if he can go.”
Schefter: “I thought it was his quad?”
Fisher: “Uh…yeah–quad..shoulder…either one.”
Uh…no.
Didn’t you know that you check a qb’s shoulder TO check the quad. See if the qb can step up and throw without pain in the shoulder, then the quad is good to go.
Guys, this is football 101 stuff. I swear the lack of football knowledge on this board is embarrassing sometimes.
Thanks for the info, and the gracious way of presenting it

Now. Is that right? If so why? How does a quad directly have an effect on the shoulder?
Or are you messing with us?
I am that anatomy ignorant. Every new type of injury there is, the first time I hear of it, I have to look it up. So if you’re joking I can’t even tell.

Instead, he tucks the ball down, tries to scramble and runs himself into a sack. I am hoping that getting starter reps and expecting to be a starter will have him more ready this week if he has to play but I’m concerned. I’m still hoping for the best but Davis really needs to speed things up between the ears and get the ball out quicker.

Here’s a play that bothered me with Austin Davis:

This play ultimately results in a sack because Davis hesitates and doesn’t pull the trigger. He does a good job on this play of sliding in the pocket to buy time and isn’t sacked by the guy right behind him in the picture. However, my issue is that he has Chad Greenway stuck between the receiver on the drag and the receiver on the dig. He essentially has both guys open. He can’t hesitate here. He needs to trust what he’s seeing and throw the ball.

As you can see here, everyone is handled except Floyd and the safety. Long is laying on his stomach after whiffing on Floyd and doesn’t make much effort to get up. If Long had executed the block, Joseph pulls through and should be able to blow up the safety. I see nothing but green grass behind him. Everybody else executed their assignment and every player is blocked and handled except for the two mentioned above.

Here’s the second run:

On this play, it’s more or less a straight off tackle run. You have Long reaching and down blocking Floyd, Saffold and Wells doubling the other DT, Joseph pulling around to hit the safety, Harkey kicking out to seal the LB on the edge, Kendricks power blocking the RDE, and Cook hitting the second level to seal the Mike.

znModeratorjrry32
Here’s how it plays out:

I think the issue is pretty obvious. Harkey doesn’t succeed in the wham block. He gets stood up by the LB and fails to seal him which allows the LB to turn him and trip Austin up as Austin hits the seam. Austin ends up wiggling through the seam for a few yards but had Harkey executed the block more effectively, this is a huge play.
znModeratorAlso, it is only the second game of the season. How can they be starting their 3rd QB of the season?
Ain’t THAT the question.
According to the best scientific explanation I can come up with, it’s the curse, I guess.

znModeratorAdam Schefter @AdamSchefter 4h
Rams will test QB Shaun Hill’s shoulder in per-game warmups, but team is preparing as if QB Austin Davis will start today vs. Tampa. They should also test Adan Schefter’s understanding of anatomy.
znModeratorTHOMAS: Quinn averages just under $11 million a year under the new deal, which isn’t exorbitant for a star defensive end these days. But he gets roughly two-thirds of that money — $41.2 million — as guaranteed dollars.
That pretty much sums up our discussion.
Lighter than some in avg. dollars per year…high in guaranteed money.
I am looking forward to seeing how it works out structurally, year by year.
znModerator“We will rally around Austin Davis, and…play Tampa Bay….”
I know. Not funny. What kann ya do though.

znModeratorPromise me we don’t have to do that.
znModeratorWe are nailing down details.
I disagree. I think it’s more of a situation where we are using a hammer to pound details into place in a nice, snug, tight fit that will be structurally sound.

I even pointed out that if you subtract the 17.5 in the final phoney year, it still avgs. 13.7 M or so.
I did say that probably what Quinn wanted was the guaranteed money upfront.
But even given that, an 11 M annual avg. is surprising. That’s an interesting trade-off. More guaranteed upfront for a lower annual avg.
As invader already pointed out in a different thread, that makes Quinn a very interesting player. He didn’t care about the showboat “total contract” comparison with other players, and opted instead for the upfront money.
>It is the more the real money vs fluff. Annual salary is in someways meaningless.
Ag we;re not really disagreeing.
Part of my point was that it’s fluff v. real money.
What surprises is me is that a player knows that and acts accordingly.
Watt for example didn’t act like he knew that.
In fact Watt is the norm.
This is the discussion from before, which parallels this one:
http://theramshuddle.com/topic/rams-and-quinn-close-to-contract-extension/
one advantage the Rams have, besides guys wanting to play for Fisher (and in RQ’s case, Waufle too), is that they frontload–guys REALLY ARE getting that money, upfront.
i’m sure robert realizes this. instead of going for the headline “record contract”.
I think you’re right that RQ wants the real money upfront, and I would be surprised if it had a trick money backloaded final year the way Watts deal does.

11 M is actually less than Long.
But I guess what Quinn really wants is the guaranteed money–that that balances out the avg.
This deal just plain makes the future cap an open field of dreams.
I always assumed it would be far more than that, in terms of a cap hit.
I wonder if people realize that even with this deal the Rams now have probably around 68 or so M in 2016 cap space free right now.
I think they probably used up a bit more of the cap in 2016. 2014 and 2015 are close. The 68 million of space in 2016 is probably less than that, cause they have to take some money out somewhere. imo
Well what I did was subtact 11 M more from the current 2016 cap.
I doubt they backloaded it so I was just using the avg. annual amount to get a rough guess-timate.

znModeratorThe deal is worth $65.5 million w/$41.2 million guaranteed. That’s over a 6-year period because 2014 year and 2015 year were torn up
I don;t think that’s the final say on that contract. 65 M for 6 years is way too low–that’s less than what Long has in terms of the annual average. So we need to see the breakdown.
znModeratorI agree, wv.
The way offenses are going to play the Rams will limit what the line is able to do–and add to that fact that the refs do not care if Robert Quinn is held or not, and you make it very difficult. They will force the Rams to slow down a bit to account for the short stuff, the screens, etc. This really depends on the OFFENSE. If the offense can get big leads everything changes. But I’m not holding my breath on that one.
We’ll see what the Rams do.
There’s a real good chance Wms is as smart as any coordinator out there, and for every yin there’s a yang.
So I don’t know yet, myself, if offenses attacking that way will be this perennial issue.

znModeratorthe psychology and motivations behind staying in an abusive relationship are far more complex than what the general public thinks.
The idea being, many people think “mostly they stay because they’re financially dependent and have few options.”
But then I suppose WV is thinking of many of his poor clients and whether they could sit through that vid. Those people would already know that the stereotypes about why poor women would stay in abusive relationships aren’t true. So the question becomes, from his perspective, who is being talked to?
