They said, yes, the Russians hacked our system and tried to impact our election. Their purview did not include a study of “did this work or not?” So Trump lied when he claims they said it didn’t impact the election. They were never tasked with an analysis about that and never said it did not.

    Good summary.

I cannot understand why anyone even cares what countries hacked the info that Clinton hacked and stole the primary. Palast was all over Trump’s interstate (30 of them) crosscheck scam that won him the election and CNN.clinton.corp. said nothing instead pushing this bullshit that the Russians did it.

American intel has already made clear that among many other things the russians did, yes they hacked the dems (and the republicans too they just didn’t release that info).

They did do the hacking. That’s not all they did.

And this topic has nothing to do with who won the election. It has to do with whether it’s true there was russian involvement in the election in various ways.

    And. Yes, there was.

ON TOP OF IT, this is not about dems whining. It goes way beyond that. Anyone who tries to construe it as JUST dems whining is just not engaging with the entire issue and all the info we have.

They just leaked a bunch of wonky nothingness that tells us nothing we couldn’t have guessed without it before the leaks.

The idea that the dem party acts like a political machine? It was actually worse in the days of Mayor Daley.

But that’s not what they did. They did not “expose” party machinations.

They exposed ONE PARTY’S machinations as a means of intervening in an election.

Remember. The Russians had stuff from the republicans. You know the guys who just voted to dismantle the ethics committee. They just didn’t leak it.

That was cynical political manipulation and nothing more.

The ways in which that is indefensibly bad are pretty much too long to list.

So they’re clearly targetting a focused specific thing, but then they cast such a wide net, meaning it;s not clear what they’re after?

Not sure I take it the same way…in fact, I certainly don’t want them narrowing their search to exclusively one type of HC.

As stated in previous threads, I’m squarely in the “The coordinators are very important” category…In fact, if I were interviewing that would be one of my first questions.

So…Even though I would like a promising offensive minded guy (Shanahan, McVey) I wouldn’t like it if the Rams only wanted to talk with those types of guys.

Also, in one of the Demoff articles posted here, he stated some of the interviews are informational only…getting info from that years opponents seeking info on other teams perceptions of Rams strengths and weaknesses.

My comment was aimed at VB and his contradictions.

He is BOTH saying that the Rams focused narrowly on offensive coordinator types AND that their search is so broad that it lacks focus.

That is just him being contradictory.

I had no comment at all about the Rams search, which I have no problem with.

. There is nothing “democratic” about them and what they do. They don’t attempt to build egalitarian, democratic, participatory foundations, or seek information others freely give to them.

The people who have worked with him and gone public about what a dick he is cement all this. Assange is a right libertarian and he treats all people, especially those who work with him, like crap.

By way of analogy. Napoleon did not advance The Revolution. Napoleon KILLED The Revolution.

Why all the outrage about this one case involving Russia? Cause Russia went after the Neoliberals?

    No.

    No that is not it.

Usually you’re good at listening. You have something blocking you in this case, and I can’t think of what it is. It’s causing you to not hear the other side on this. So you’re not even really responding to the real arguments.

For one thing they went after HALF of the neo-liberals. Look at Trump’s actual policies. The idea that he is free of neo-liberalism is just wrong. They are classical neo-liberal policies. It’s just that his administration will be the neoliberals who also go after social security, medicaire, planned parenthood, roe v. wade, the supreme court, the EPA, and so on. In other words, they’re the WORSE neo-liberals. But they are not NOT neo-liberals.

And if you can countenance this, you have no reason to complain about american intervention in other nation’s elections. Either that’s a principle—you don’t do that–or it’s no argument at all. You can’t suddenly countenance it because in this case you have animosity toward the target.

they are targeting young, offensive-minded assistants

But for now it seems clear the focus is on bringing in a new leader who will address their two biggest objectives: Fixing an offense that’s plummeted to the bottom of NFL rankings and creating an imaginative culture best suited to develop rookie quarterback Jared Goff and get second-year running back Todd Gurley back on track.

Okay but that;s contradicted by this:

by casting such a wide net it’s tough to get a read yet on what, or who, the Rams are ready to rule in or out.

So they’re clearly targetting a focused specific thing, but then they cast such a wide net, meaning it;s not clear what they’re after?

Well, i dont know what ‘Russia’ did or didn’t do,
but i do know the Hillary/Podesta wikileaks emails were true and accurate.

So assuming for the sake of argument that russia or some other group leaked,
true and accurate info to the American Public….how is that such a bad thing?

    w
    v

If you do that selectively you have an agenda. I mean it really is that simple.

If they had leaked republican stuff TOO, I could see your point.

But they did it selectively, so it is absolute inescapable that they had an agenda. (BTW the Russians DID access republican material. They just chose not to release it.)

And btw on to another point … I am both against the USA interfering in elections abroad and foreign powers interfering in american elections. One doesnt justify the other. To me if you’re against one you should be against the other. And that’s regardless whether or not we personally like or dislike the target.

    ————–
The ‘russians’ may have accessed Rep stuff, but that doesn’t mean wikileaks had an agenda. We dont know where wikileaks got its info from.

Moreover, i dont care if wikileaks had an ‘agenda’. What if they ‘did’ prefer Trump over Hillary? Its not a crime. Its just an agenda. And since they only told the truth about Hillary, it doesn’t seem out of line to me. I mean telling the truth while having an agenda is not the worst thing in the world.

    w
    v

Wikileaks CLEARLY had an agenda. I don’t even think that’s debatable.

I don’t care if it’s a crime—it’s manipulation of another nation’s election. I condemned that when the USA did it and I don’t like it much now either.

And btw Russian actions did not reduce to giving dem stuff to wikileaks. It was more than that.

And wikileaks is not “telling the truth.” They used selective information to manipulate a process. If they were interested in the truth they would have asked the russians for the republican stuff too. To me that’s no different from someone who witnesses an altercation with the police and then only states what the defendant did without saying what the police did. Protecting a bad cop is not devotion to truth.

Yet in the report its stated that no evidence of Russian tampering with voting machines was found.

And… statement 1 covers a much broader range of things than statement 2 does.

1: We did not make an assessment of the impact of Russian activities had on the outcome of the 2016 election.

2: Yet in the report its stated that no evidence of Russian tampering with voting machines was found.

Statement 1 is not about or just about voting machines. And in terms of statement 2, saying there is no evidence of a particular action existing is not the same as making an assessment.

The 2 are not equivalent statements.

Rams consider defensive coordinators for head coaching job as Gregg Williams reportedly heads to Cleveland

    Gary Klein

    http://www.latimes.com/sports/rams/la-sp-rams-coach-search-20170107-story.html

The Rams’ search for a new coach continued Saturday in New England but hit a snag before it could move to Atlanta.

Rams personnel interviewed New England Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels and defensive coordinator Matt Patricia. However, snowy weather prevented the group from traveling from Boston to Atlanta, where they planned to interview Atlanta Falcons offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan, a person with knowledge of the situation said.

The Falcons’ window for allowing interviews ended Saturday, so the Rams would need to work with the team to possibly interview Shanahan before the Falcons’ Jan. 14 playoff game against the Seattle Seahawks. Otherwise, the Rams would have to wait until the following week.

Along with a new coach, the Rams apparently will have a new defensive coordinator.

Gregg Williams, who has held that position for three seasons, has agreed to become defensive coordinator of the Cleveland Browns, replacing Ray Horton, according to multiple reports. The Browns fired Horton on Saturday night, the Associated Press reported.

Experience as defensive coordinators is what sets Patricia and Vance Joseph apart from the majority of other known candidates in the Rams’ search for a head coach.

With the Rams coming off two consecutive seasons as the NFL’s worst offense, most of the assistants whom they have interviewed or will meet with are offensive coordinators.

McDaniels and Shanahan are currently the most high-profile, but Washington’s Sean McVay and Arizona’s Harold Goodwin interviewed last week, and Buffalo interim coach Anthony Lynn and Jacksonville interim coach Doug Marrone are expected to be interviewed this week.

Like Carolina secondary coach Steve Wilks, who interviewed last week, Patricia and Joseph both schemed against the Rams this season and came away with victories.

Patricia, 42, was an offensive lineman and studied aeronautical engineering in college and worked as an engineer before beginning his coaching career at the college level. He joined the New England staff in 2004, and held various positions before he was named defensive coordinator in 2012.

The Patriots ranked eighth in the NFL in defense this season, giving up 326.4 yards per game. They gave up only 15.6 points per game, fewest in the NFL.

On Dec. 4, the Patriots defeated the Rams, 26-10, at Gillette Stadium. The Rams gained only 162 yards, and rookie quarterback Jared Goff faced constant pressure.

Joseph, 44, is in his first season as the Dolphins’ defensive coordinator. He also has coached in the NFL with the Cincinnati Bengals, Houston Texans and San Francisco 49ers.

The Dolphins’ defense ranked 29th in the NFL this season, giving up 382.6 yards per game. They gave up 23.8 points per game, which ranked 18th.

On Nov. 20, Joseph and the Dolphins went up against Goff in his first start. Miami limited the Rams to 227 yards in a 14-10 victory at the Coliseum.

The Rams could meet with Joseph next week after the Dolphins play Pittsburgh in Sunday’s AFC playoff game.

She hasn’t testified to anything yet and this is not directed at posters but at the crybabies who are already wetting themselves. Can’t do any worse than what we have now.

And who are these crybabies you refer to.

Sore losers unwilling to await the confirmation hearings. And bedwetters. Definitely bedwetters.

And why can’t that be taken as applying to posters here who you disagree with? I know you say otherwise, but still. If you mean someone NOT here, say who there are.

That is, good discussion is always helped by directness and clarity.

For example, if called anyone crybabies, I would immediately add that it;s the Trump staff members who get so bothered about being criticized. And, I would say that.

It’s a fair question my friend.

The reason all that matter is this.

If I say, the people who voted for Trump are retards, but I don’t mean any posters here, that doesn’t work.

If I’m attacking a general label or type and people who fit that label or type are posting here, then, I;m attacking them if I attack the label or type. EG. I can’t say Rams fans are idiots and then qualify that by saying but I don’t mean the Rams fans who post here.

This applies to all of us, because it’s a tricky business–a lot of the time, posting about a political group or belief or type gets into inflammatory bashing. For example on the old version of this board, the ur-huddle public board, that stuff got out of hand.

So if you aim a general comment at all right-wingers, there are right-wingers who post HERE. Can you flame right-wingers as a group and then say, but I don’t mean this poster or that poster?

Same with liberals. Same with leftists.

We might all just have to qualify our “attack language.” I can’t make a nasty generalization about the people who voted for Stein and then say oh btw that I’m not talking about you WV.

On the other hand, public figures are fair game.

I don’t want to just monologue on this…other thoughts? (With this rule still in force: it can’t be conflict aimed at individual posters.)

So far Spags is getting to Rodgers. Not just sacks, a couple of errant throws. One I thought though was not on Rodgers.

It was funny on the one where Rodgers misses Cook really badly. The announcers had been talking earlier about what a great signing Cook was. So Rodgers misses him by a lot (wide right), and the announcers go, boy Rodgers sure missed on that one. But what crossed my mind instead was, “Cook ran the wrong route.” Or at least didn’t see something so failed to adjust properly to the defense.

Cause…I am a veteran “Cook watcher.” The announcers aren’t.

I looked in both, and felt the thread did not fit with the other posts in those threads.

Has nothing to do with what’s IN them, it’s what the thread is about. Because a thread like that (about games) will veer all over the place and contain many topics.

You posted a one-on about a wild card game. Unless you think there’s a chance a thread about Gase will attract multiple responses. But…anything having to do with wild card games fits in those 2 suggested threads.

So think of it that way. It’s like post-game threads with the Rams. All you really need is one thread on the day of the game.

The other side of the coin, as I said, is to have lots of one-on threads pushing threads off page one, plus it dilutes discussion. Here, as a rule, choose discussion over one-ons on something like responses to games.

He was a good coach. But his units made too many mistakes of both classes, big mistakes and repeated mistakes, and those mistakes could not be explained away. There were too many, for me anyway.

True but that can be seen 2 ways.

First way is, they underachieved. The mistakes held them back.

Second way is, he had them overachieving. The mistakes come from a unit playing over its head and pressing.

I actually see it the second way.

JPM, do me a favor and when possible resist the temptation to start new threads when a post may actually belong in an existing thread. (Adding lots of new shorter threads depletes the page one space for existing threads.)

So for example, that’s really just a commentary on or a response to a Sunday wild card game. Given that, shouldn’t it go here, ie a thread that is already discussing that? –>
