The importance of home-field advantage in the playoffs is on display in Pittsburgh, especially for warm weather teams playing in the cold. The Steelers are up 20 – 3 in the 2nd.
The Dolphins look very uncomfortable and unprepared in the frigid conditions of Pittsburgh. Every player looks a step slow and it’s pretty evident they don’t want to be there. Back in October the Dolphins convincingly beat the Steelers in Miami, but having to play in a wind chill of 1 degree is something completely different. It’s not something you can really prepare for.
It makes the three straight road victories the Rams pulled off at the end of the regular season and during the playoffs in 89 all the more amazing. They beat New England to end the regular season, then beat the Eagles in the wild card game and the Giants in the divisional round before losing to San Fran in the NFC Championship. Three straight 3000 mile trips to the icy east coast in consecutive weeks.
Yeah, I’ve been thinking about how lucky we are the Rams don’t have to go on the road this year in the playoffs.
