Btw, at the 28 minute mark, Greg C, is tickled by one particular play the Chiefs called.   He doesnt know how the Chiefs knew SF would be in man to man coverage on this play.

Lotta talking heads blaming Shanahan for the loss, and crowning Andy Reid as the best ever, etc.

But, put Mahomes on the 49ers, and how does Reid look, and how does Shanahan look?

    Dynasty

    1
a succession of rulers of the same line of descent
    2

: a powerful group or family that maintains its position for a considerable time

    Sports Dynasties
Dynasty has been in use in English for over 600 years, for most of that time referring to a ruling family that maintains power through succession. Around the beginning of the 19th century, the word developed the figurative sense “a group or family that dominates a particular field for generations.” Nowadays, this sense of dynasty is often applied to a sports franchise which has a prolonged run of successful seasons. The sports use appears to have begun in the early 20th century. An article in The Washington Post in 1905 refers to “John T. Brush’s baseball dynasty,” and by 1912 the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported that “if players were free agents at the end of every two years, baseball dynasties such as those built up by the Cubs, Athletics, Detroits and Giants would not be possible.”
Dynast and dynasty both descend from the Greek verb dynasthai, which means “to be able” or “to have power.” Dynasty came to prominence in English first; it has been part of our language since at least the 14th century. Dynast took its place in the linguistic family line in the early 1600s, and it has been used to describe sovereigns and other rulers ever since.

    Etymology

Middle English dynastia, dynastie “power, sovereignty, succession of rulers,” borrowed from Medieval Latin dynastīa, going back to Late Latin, “rule, power,” borrowed from Greek dynasteía “arbitrarily exercised political power, lordship, rule,” from dynástēs “holder of political power, lord, ruler” + -eia y-entry 2 — more at dynast

On the Puka comment about video games.

I am old, so i remember all the stories about the 70s Raiders and such.  And stories about Babe Ruth,  Billy Martin and Mickey Mantle and such.  Lawrence Taylor.  Ya know.  Players just getting drunk the night before games, etc and so forth.

But i wonder if such types of players exist anymore?   I dunno if that kind of conduct could exist in today’s NFL.    I suppose video games are about as bad as it gets nowadays.

Some of us would like to see Shanahan suffer another post-season meltdown.   SF blew the ten point lead against the Rams in the NFC title game.  They blew a ten point lead to the Chiefs in the Super Bowl.   And of course the Falcons blew the 28-3 lead in the Super Bowl.

I would like to see SF blow a 31 point lead in this game.

Does that make me a bad person?

Heard a snippet on the radio, i thot was funny.   Some Raider official was talking about how this super bowl is a nightmare for the Raiders.   The Raiders absolutely hate two teams: Chiefs, San Francisco.

Travis Kelce was drafted in the 3rd round.

George Kittle in the 5th round.   Not bad, eh.

    Fred Warner – 3rd round.

    Deebo – 2nd round.

    Purdy – 7th round

49ers have 8 players on the team who are 1st rounders. (counting the backup QB)

I dunno if that is a lot or about average, or what.

Aiyuk, Armstead, Bosa, McCaffrey, Trent Williams, Kinlaw, Ferrell, Sam Darnold

“The key thing is he’s just real and he’s genuine,” Gilman said. “People who have that genuine connection, that’s leadership — that’s real — that people can actually connect to. And in a team setting, that’s how you build a culture. That’s how you win over a locker room of grown men. You need that. You need someone to also to hold you accountable, at the same time be like, ‘Hey bro, I got your back.‘”

Well that is tricky, isnt it.   ‘Hold you accountable’ while also ‘having your back’

They are at a very interesting point in their ‘team-building’ challenge, aren’t they.

I got interested in the Chiefs defense this year.  It always seemed to me, KC had a mediocre D and relied on Mahomes and that offense.   So, this year, obviously their D has been at least as important as the O.   And ive been wondering how they built this D, and what makes it good, etc.

The Chiefs, btw, have drafted edge rushers with their late-first-round-picks each of the last two years.

Interesting fact: “…Kansas City ranks fifth in total defensive DVOA and EPA/play. If the season ended tomorrow, they would be the best Chiefs defense since 2015 and just the second group to finish top-10 since 2000…..things get even more impressive when you take a look at the Chiefs’ ledgers. Kansas City has the third-least money spent on defense in the league. The two teams below them, the Los Angeles Rams and Arizona Cardinals, are 27th and 31st in defensive DVOA, respectively. It’s even more impressive when you realize that Chris Jones and Justin Reid make up $39.5 million of their $83.3 million defensive spend…”

This is exactly what i thought when i watched the extended highlights of the Chiefs/Ravens game.   First time I’ve seen a pundit say it though.  Almost all the pundits just blamed the Baltimore OC for not running the ball more.

Breer says Spags clogged all of Lamar’s running lanes with a kindof fake blitz-ish-ness.  They dared Lamar to beat them in the air.  And he couldnt do it.

Albert Breer on an Eisen vid, quoted Spags.

Spags said this about the KC defense: “This is the deepest well of smart players that ive ever had in my career”

I will be rooting for the KC Chiefs, even though I am tired of them.

    Yup.

I think i saw that the 49ers were favored by a point or so.    I dunno how you make Mahomes, Kelsey and that defense an underdog.

So the Ravens only handed the ball to RBs six times, i guess.   The pundits are all talking about the playcalling.     That ‘does’ seem a bit strange.  Six runs?

I dunno.  Maybe Harbaugh just put the game on Lamar.

One thing i noticed that i havent seen discussed, was the way Spags’ defense contained Lamar.   I mean, the chiefs passrushers got pressure, but they ALSO were extremely lane-savvy if thats a term.   They were playing games that Lamar was not able to figure out.   Reminded me a bit of what the Rams used to do to Russell Wilson back when he was in his prime.

Maybe most teams dont have the talent to execute what the Chiefs D did.   I dunno.

But it was somethin to see.
