wvParticipantThats exactly the way they should be handling him. Having said that he just doesnt have the ‘bend-around-the-corner-ability’ he used to have. He still has the ‘get off’ or ‘speed’ but he doesnt seem to have the speed PLUS power PLUS ‘twistyness’ to bull the OT and get around the corner. He looks like most of the time he just rockets upfield and zooms past the QB and ends up on the ground. The ‘turn’ around the corner just isnt happening anymore. And i assmue thats the effect of the back-injury-surgery.
I imagine, Quinn and Tavon will be gone next year. Though i dunno the cap situation with Quinn.

wvParticipantI re-watched the first half last night because I couldn’t give my game my full attention on Sunday – had it on in the background, sort of. And it reinforced my impression that the game should have been more lopsided than it was. The Rams should have scored at least one more TD instead of a FG in the first half. They could have had two. It seems to me it was sheer greenery that made them come up short. I think in another year – if the OL stays at this level – the Rams will finish more drives.
I know they are scoring on a high % of their drives, but I bet their % of TDs once inside the Red Zone isn’t top ten.
Anyway, I look forward to the Rams getting even better on offense.
The defense flipped a switch. Don’t know that I’ve ever seen anything like it. We all saw it. Since half time at Dallas, this team has stifled the other team. 3 1/2 games.
Right now, they are hitting in all three phases of the game, and the offense is going to get better.
We have a team now.
=============
I dont disagree with any of that, but the Defense looked good against Bortles and Arizona, and Seattle. I dunno what they’ll look like when the high-octane offenses show up. Like New Orleans, etc.
Still, i agree with what you said. And yes, what spawns the smiles is the fact that we know this offense hasnt gelled yet. Young QB, new TEs and WRs and blockers. AND cap space in the future.

wvParticipantgmen vs rams:http://www.footballdb.com/teams/nfl/new-york-giants/teamvsteam?opp=29
Looks like the giants have won about seven in a row against the hapless-rams. Most of em aint even been close.
Last time the rams beat the giants was the GSOT in 2001 — 15 to 14. The famous Martz-Lets-Strahan-Kill-his-QB game.

Giants and Rams:http://www.stlsports.com/articles/mr.rams.101501.html
They can’t all be pretty. The Rams finally won ugly, much like the team they beat Sunday, the New York Giants, do with regularity. In what was a long way from a classic at the Dome the Rams beat the Giants (3-2) by a score of 15-14 in a “slugfest”, a win that could prove crucial when it comes time for playoff tiebreakers to be decided in January.
On this day the Rams high octane offense was ordinary thanks in large part to a ton of mistakes they made, turnovers and penalties being the main culprits, but also because of a guy on the Giants defensive line named Michael Strahan, who made Ryan Tucker’s life miserable all day long at right tackle. Tucker was playing with a broken wrist and a separated shoulder and probably should have been an inactive this week let alone going up against one of the best defensive linemen in the game. Strahan racked up four sacks, a forced fumble, and created havoc in the Rams backfield all day.
But somehow they found a way to win. As head coach Mike Martz said after the game; “We couldn’t have won a game like this last year. We weren’t strong enough either mentally or physically.” They are now. Thanks to Lovie Smith’s new defense.
We’ve been raving about this defense all season and rightfully so. On Sunday we once again saw why the Rams now have a complete football team. Sure they allowed the Giants to gain some yards, but more times than not they came up with the big play to keep them from scoring.
On the final play of the game as the Giants were driving downfield looking for at least the winning field goal, Giants quarterback Kerry Collins hit Joe Jurevicius over the middle for what would have been a nice gain. Jurevicius was immediately hit by rookie safety Adam Archuleta, who popped the ball loose, and Grant Wistrom swooped in to grab it for a game ending interception. The Rams ran out the clock and walked off the field as still the NFL’s only undefeated team in 2001 at 5-0. No way the 2000 Rams make this play.
Smith defense preaches swarming the ball carrier. Because of that Wistrom was running straight towards Jurevicius and was in place to make the big interception.
The Rams did suffer their first serious injury of the season when all-universe running back Marshall Faulk left the game in the second half with what is being termed as a “bone bruise” in his knee. He’s expected to be out 3-4 weeks. Trung Canidate, who scored the winning touchdown from a yard out and made some big plays in the win over the Giants, will get a bulk of the work at halfback in Faulk’s absence.
The Rams will head to the Meadowlands next week to take on the New York Jets as they look to get off to a 6-0 for the third straight season.
wvParticipantI watched it on replay last night. Run Defense, and Run offense were good.
The Rams OLine just gouged holes in Arizona’s D all…night…long. I’m still not used to seeing it. Holes. I keep thinking “someone on defense must have fallen down, or something” — but no — the Rams have a powerful OLine. …did i just write that? That cant be right.
The game woulda been a lot closer if Carson had stayed in it, but i remember a time the rams couldnt beat back-up QBs.
Hekker and legatron have to be the best combo in the NFL this year.

wvParticipantWell i think propping up Assad is probly the best of a lot of bad options. So, i have no problem with Russia doing that. America’s deep-state wants an even worse villain than Assad running things in Syria
No there were other options.
Either way, I don’t whitewash Russia just cause the USA is bad too.
I think anyone who makes that argument, like in the article above, is begging a lot of bad questions.
And Chomsky saying “no solution” doesn’t mean “stop shedding bright light on what is bad about Russia.”
As I said the actual leftist dissidents there do not paint a picture of something we should either endorse or ignore. (Same with Israel for that matter.)
Which doesn;t mean the USA is good. Saying that is not an option either.
…

What other solutions ?

wvParticipantgood stuff
w

wvParticipantWell, ya know, we just disagree about Russia. So, pistols at dawn, and all that
To me, the 800 to 3 thing is a meaningful, significant reflection of ‘the big aggressor’ vs the ‘little aggressor’. Yes, both aggressors. But one is a lot more dangerous and deadly than the other. I see a significant difference, and its reflected in the 800 to 3 number.
w
vBut the writer frames it in such a way that it’s supposed to deflect criticism from Russia. Particularly when it comes to Syria. I am never going to buy that move.
If it were just an article on american foreign policy and its military bases, fine. I could get behind that. But, think better of Russia in Syria because the USA is bigger? Nah no thanks. Wrong motives.
So. An article on american foreign policy and its military bases? Cool.
And another article on Russia’s aggressions and propping up Assad in Syria? Also cool.
An article saying forget Russia, the USA is worse? Strikes me as pointless.
..

As far as how the writer wrote his article, its not how i would have written it. There’s things i agreed with and things I’m not sure of. Etc, and so forth.
If I’m not mistaken (just to go off on a tangent) someone asked Chomsky what could/should be done in Syria, and he just threw up his hands and said its an impossible mess. No solution. I dont think I’ve ever seen him say anything like that before.

I’m not knocking him, btw. I always liked Chris.
w

wvParticipantHe’s playing great in Philly.
================
I didnt think he’d last this long. Sure seemed like he was tailing off in the last couple years with the rams.
Maybe he just needed to get healthy and have fewer reps.
w
v
wvParticipantWell it looks like just in football salary alone (not counting commercials, real-estate deals, etc) he’s made about 90 million.
So, he donated a million or so this year.
http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/philadelphia-eagles/chris-long-3241/cash-earnings/
Thats nice.
If you had 90 million you would match that, I would think. 🙂
w
v
wvParticipantJust somethin i read, fwiw:
“The U.S. has an estimated 800 foreign military bases in well over 100 countries while Russia has three in two countries. U.S. military budget is at least ten times that of Russia’s and was just increased by 10 percent while the Russians just reduced theirs by 7 percent. Who is the aggressor?”
mintpress:http://www.mintpressnews.com/understanding-the-the-news-behind-the-fake-news-hysteria/233330/The aggressor in this case is the writer who thinks he can whitewash the fact that both countries are aggressors.
It’s simple. As Marx himself said, there is no such thing as imperialism, there is imperialismS and they compete.
I never see the point in forgetting that.
Then again the source here, mintpress news, is pro-Assad, so there’s that.
….
=================
While i agree with you that Russia (like virtually all powerful nations) is an ‘aggressor’ — the point “I” was making was more of a ‘scorecard’ point: 800 to 3. That is a meaningful difference. To me ignoring that difference would be a form of ‘whitewashing’ too.

wvParticipant“…“I call it addition by subtraction,” Snead said, recalling his mindset at the onset of the offseason. “Let’s think about subtracting anybody who we deemed unreliable. And you can do that before you add anybody. And then from there…”

Its only been one year, but so far it looks that way.
Does that mean anything?
w

wvParticipant“We’re playing as a team and finishing games,” Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald said. “We’ve had a lot of adversity in our games, but we’re still finding a way to play for four quarters and finishing.”

wvParticipantYou remember that documentary you posted about several years ago, about the theatre prodigy named Oakley Hall, III? The Loss of Nameless Things?
After his accident, he ended up living in a town about half hour north of me for a while. He has family there. Anyway, I came across his sister on Facebook when she commented on a performance of a former student of mine. I recognized her name. How many people named Sands Hall are there likely to be in my neck of the country? So I messaged her, and never got a response, so I forgot about it. Well, she just messaged me back a few minutes ago, and she is going to send me the script for his “Frankenstein” production that was so stunning. It’s never been published. I am going to see about producing and directing it.

Well, thats fucking awesome, aint it.

wvParticipantthot it was interesting when stocton/schlereth noted that C.Campbell gets sky-high when he plays in games with A.Donald.
I’ve heard thats how Nittany feels just knowing i’m in the same thread.
w
vOctober 16, 2017 at 2:33 pm in reply to: week 7 thotz…are the Rams shaping up into a contender? #76175
wvParticipantWell it always about matchups, i suppose. Its one thing to look like a top D against Bortles and the one-dimensional Jags — its quite another to shut-down Carson Palmer and the wiley Adrian Peterson.
So, another test.
This is fun.
I’d love to see Watkins catch a deep one against the evil Patrick Peterson.
w
v
wvParticipantPatrick Peterson left the game yesterday with a quad injury. No word on whether he will play Sunday or not.
I’m hoping…not.
=================
Look, only the Rams can beat the Rams. If Gurley or Cooper or Tavon or Goff dont fumble, they’ll smoke the Cardinals like a crumpet in banned-book fire.
w
v
wvParticipant…They’re 21st in yards, 28th in points, 26th in passing yards, though 9th in rushing yards and 4th in yards per carry.
They’re still 11th in sack percentage though 27th in sacks.
On offense, they’re 10th in yards, including 3rd in yards passing, though 20th in points, and 3rd in yards passing, though 32nd in yards rushing…===============
Yes, but what are their numbers against Horned teams, playing in Europe, with a coaching staff with an unknown number of left-handed assistants ?
w
v
wvParticipantIts an interesting matchup as this team continues to create-itself.
The Cards just beat the crap out of the Rams in that 44-6 game last year.
The series is like 38 to 37 or somethin like that.
Series:http://www.footballdb.com/teams/nfl/arizona-cardinals/teamvsteam?opp=29
w
v
wvParticipantI watched it on replay, and i thought C.Barwin played well. He had a key block on the Cooper Kick Return.
They tried to go deep to Watkins three times. (once Goff held on to the ball, but he was looking deep) Jax had him covered well twice and Goff just missed on the one where Watkins had separation.
The OLine played very well. Big holes for Gurley and M.Brown.
Defense was workman-like. A good D OUGHT to shut down a mediocre QB like Bortles and they prettymuch did. The contrast between Bortles’ skill set and Goffs was apparent, i thought. Bortles just does everything slower than Goff.
4-Net is the best RB I’ve seen in a while.
4-2 is awesome.
w
v
wvParticipantAint watched it yet. I’ll watch it on replay. I saw the hi-lites and read the box score and it looks like yer basic tough road win against a tough defense.
This is what good teams do. They dont find ways to LOSE games like this.

If the Rams play mistake free football tomorrow they will run the Jags out of that stadium. Bank It

Only the Rams,
can beat the Rams.w
v
wvParticipantThe defense is intriguing isn’t it. It probly wont be ‘dominant’ with Quinn not being Quinn anymore, but if they get Joyner back, and they all gel and learn the system, they could be in the top third of the league.

wvParticipantThis guy wrote a book called The General’s Son. (i ordered it) His father was a famous Israeli General, who began to question Israeli polices…
He (the son) has an interesting story. This utube is part2 of a three-part set, and i started it where he talks about meeting Palestinians:
wvParticipanti don’t know much about wentz really. haven’t seen him play, but goff’s pocket presence is light years ahead of bradford.
bradford was mobile. at least as mobile as goff, but it seemed he had no idea where the pressure was coming from.
================
I agree, and its not so much a knock on bradford as it is noticing that Goff has some special skills. He’s still learning but its obvious he’s gonna be tricky in the pocket. And his throwing on the move skill is just elite. Thats what makes him special in my eyes. Its there in all his college vids. I was hoping it would transfer to the pros. And it is getting there.
The guy can throw accurately, with velocity, on the move.
This offense is gonna be so much fun to watch, when it grows up.
w
v
wvParticipantIf Wade wants him, thats all i need to know.
w
v
wvParticipantUgh. I think a lot of us suspected that.
Not that we ‘know’ that that report is true, but it would explain a lot of things.
w
v
wvParticipant“…The process of devising that plan is collaborative, carried out in a series of meetings throughout the week in which open communication is encouraged. Each coach has their own responsibility in regards to game planning. LaFleur teams with McVay on pass plays. Kromer works the run game. Quarterbacks coach Greg Olson handles third downs, and tight ends coach Shane Waldron focuses on red zone. “They’re all instrumental,” McVay says.
But McVay oversees it all…”
