wvParticipantBomani musing about a point he makes a lot — there seems to be a lot of black DCs, but not a lot of black OCs. (after the bit about Eagles Oline coaching quitting)
wvParticipantI cant remember the last time two Defense-minded head coaches faced off in the Super Bowl.

wvParticipant“He says a young defense felt a sense of entitlement as the headed into the NFC Championship.”
I have no idea what to make of that.
At any rate, the defense allowed 31, 27, 34, 38, 31, 31 in six of their last 9 games including playoffs. Six of nine games the defense must have ‘felt entitled’.
I think the secondary was light on talent, and the front four had some nagging injuries. Its fixable in one off-season. Thats the good news. Bad news, of course, is it takes a shit-load of luck to make it back to the final four. And, the NFC has some very good teams on the rise.

wvParticipantI have always liked this guy, btw. He knows the value of the Offensive Line. And Herbert ‘did’ to wonders with a disaster of an Oline.
wvParticipantSam Monson on twitter, on his Justin Herbert vote:
“I was the Justin Herbert vote.
The guy had the worst offensive line in the NFL all season and despite that he was working miracles in almost every single game.
Stafford’s OL became 2/5ths as bad as Herbert’s for 5 minutes and he became a turnover howitzer.
He embodied ‘value’.”
============
Monson:
“MVP is the single hardest award to ‘correctly’ determine, because the focus is on ‘value’, which is basically impossible to objectively evaluate with so many dependencies. But the idea that one vote altered a guy’s legacy is stupid.
More people than not thought each candidate did NOT deserve to win MVP this year, according to the votes.
There was not one clear MVP who was robbed of the award. Most people were torn between 2 deserving candidates. I thought a third deserved it as well, because the value he brought to his situation was immense.”
—————
Monson:Yeah, it’s actively NOT just the best player, though, and that’s the issue.
Like it or not – and I don’t like it – value is an intrinsic part of the award. It is THE focus of the award, and there is no consensus definition or quantification of that.

wvParticipantI am pleased the vote was so close — it will annoy Pats fans.
Now, i want the Patriots to lose the Super Bowl by 1 point.
wvParticipant2025 MVP voting:
Matthew Stafford – 24
Drake Maye – 23
Josh Allen – 2
Justin Herbert – 1Well thank you Justin Herbert.

wvParticipantKurt has won it twice. 99 and 01.
Interesting how many INTs he threw in 01. I didnt remember so many INTs.
2001 MVP Stats (St. Louis Rams):
Passing Yards: 4,830 (League High)
Touchdowns: 36 (League High)
Interceptions: 22
Completion Percentage: 68.7%
Passer Rating: 101.4 (League High)
Record: 14–2
wvParticipantTypical Brady.
wvParticipantDoes it seem like Wide Receivers have made the most progress of any position in football? Jus seems that way to me. They are making catches these days that are just ridiculous.
Fred Biletnikoff and Jack Snow were not doing this stuff in the 70s.
wvParticipantAnother way to see this is that in fact they weren’t equal. Eagles had a top defense and were also effective on offense and special teams. In contrast, the Rams offense was so strong it could put up a combined 1060 yards on Seattle in their last 2 games (counting the championship game). But it had issues on defense (the secondary) and special teams, both of which together account for the 2 losses.
I don’t take their last 2 games, as some do, as evidence that it is better to have a top defense than a top offense.
I do take their 3 games combined as evidence that a top team needs to be at least solid when it comes to its other 2 units aside from the top unit. Seattle was a top D and were more than at least solid on O and STs. Rams can’t say that, they were a top O that was less than at least solid on D and STs.
….
Well, the scores were: 21-19, 38-37, 31-27 — so thats why I think they were basically evenly matched. They definitely have different strengths/weaknesses, but when you add up all the components of Seattle and all the components of the Rams, they seem to come out purty equal when they play.
Are you saying, you think Seattle was better? Or the Rams were better?
Or something else?w
v
wvParticipantSean McVay said the Rams’ NFC Championship Game loss to the Seahawks “probably hurt even more than any loss that I’ve ever been a part of.”
Yeah, I could see that. I wonder if he thinks he was outcoached a bit.
The Philly loss last year, was against a clearly-more-talented team. This year, the Seahawks and Rams were basically equal.w
v
wvParticipant“Most successful designed rushing attack in a decade” ?
Well, the eyeball test told me it was solid and dependable, but the Eagles running attack last year was in a different league.

wvParticipantthis is terrible. hopefully, scheelhaase is announced as new oc.
I really don’t think its so bad. One of the nice things about having an offensive-wiz head-coach is the OC isnt as critical. McVay can handle the offense.
Cowherd talks about this all the time. Shanahan, S.Payton, McVay can afford to lose their OCs.
Course Raheem Morris in San Fran, and Lafleur in Ariz DO give those teams more insight into the Rams.

wvParticipantI dont want ANY ‘owners’ in the Hall of Fame. Do people actually want to see a bust of Robert F’ing Kraft in the Hall of Fame?
So another voter has talked about leaving Belichex off and voting for Kraft instead. (It takes a big man to suck up to a billionaire owner and then make a point of publishing it):
“As one of 50 selectors, I voted FOR Robert Kraft, the long-time and accomplished New England Patriots owner,” Chappell wrote. “I did not vote AGAINST Bill Belichick, the long-time and accomplished head coach of that dynasty. I realize that’s a difference without a distinction, but I’m comfortable with my decision.”
Chappell, who said Belichick’s involvement with Spygate impacted his decision, described why Kraft was more deserving this time around.
“Kraft’s role in building the Patriots’ dynasty beginning in 1994 AND his undeniable role in helping negotiate the end of the 100-play-day work stoppage in 2011 — while his wife was gravely ill — that has resulted in long-standing labor peace,” Chappell wrote. “He’s also been involved behind the scenes in bolstering the NFL’s ever-increasing TV revenue.”
