wvParticipantPeople used to think Smilodon’s saber teeth and muscular neck and shoulders allowed it to take on prey much bigger than itself.
But if they actually had to pin their prey down and control it before employing their saber teeth, then they couldn’t take on wooly rhinos and ground sloths as depicted in the paleo art I remember from when I was a kid.
=================
Well the National-Geographic show i saw, suggested they wrastled the big-beasts down and slashed their neck-arteries and killed em quick. Like assassins. One expert said they couldnt even bit a rabbit if they wanted to because of the way their teeth and jaws evolved.
No-one on the show was sure of what they hunted or how they made their kills, or how exactly they died out. The uncertainty surprised me.

wvParticipantNuthin wrong with the gesture/symbolism but no capitalist-high-court is ever going to allow a suit like that to get anywhere. It would open the door to a gazillion similar suits and it would dismantle what capitalism has built.
At some point in the process, they will decide its too old to pursue. But first they will let the lawyers make some money.

Yeah, I think that pretty much nails it.I would just add the the “educational system” is the media. That is the uber educational system. Kids aren’t learning their values from their teachers.
===============
Yeah, i put ‘education system’ in quotes because i mean it in a very very broad way. I dont even know what exactly i mean by ‘it’ but its not just schools. Its all the ways information/values get transmitted to the babies, kids, young people, etc.
In a corporate-capitalist system we know all the ways peoples minds are shaped. I wont go into it — we all know the drill. Most of my leftist comrads spend half the time now, passing along posts/tweets/emails of the latest hellscape-happening. And the other half of the time they muse about how to live a decent life within the corporate-hellscape. My two cents lately has been “youve got to learn to live with ‘no hope'” I’m not sure what i mean by that, but i think i partly-mean, we cant get all dissipated by this or that hellscape occurence. It is what it is. So, we have to “bash on relentlessly, REGARDLESS”. I think the ‘regardless’ part is as important as the ‘bash on’ part. The ‘regardless’ part means fuck-hope. Just fight the fight because of…whatever inner-ground-wellspring gives you meaning.
Or somethin.
I dunno.
The RBG thing has a lot of people looking for a way outta here.

wvParticipantI think about democracy a lot. I roll things over in my mind. “Which form of government is best?,” I ask myself.
All i know is Democracy is bad without an “education system” that prioritizes “critical thinking” and “compassion.” In other words Science plus Compassion.
Critical Thinking to ‘me’ is just another synonym for ‘wisdom.’ And wisdom to me, is “reason” plus “compassion”. Both. Haf to have both.
Now without an education-system that seriously prioritizes Science/reason and Compassion/cooperation, any ‘democracy’ will end up warped and dangerous and eventually a hellscape.
We did not end up with a democracy with an education system that stressed critical thinking/wisdom.
We ended up with a democracy that stressed Corporate-Capitalism. Corporate-Capitalism nurtures, greed, individualism, religion, fear, propaganda, hierarchy, obedience, imperialism, recreation, entertainment, incredible cutting edge technologies and bio-chemical-and-nuclear-weaponry. And general stupidity.
So, thats what we got.
It can be tinkered with, but it cant be reversed.
w
v
wvParticipantWell, yes, its just another eruption in the hellscape that is Amerika.
And while it is bad, i have to say, i have always wondered what America would be like if every state made its own abortion decision. I have wondered it that would actually hurt Republicans in the long run. I understand it would hurt poor-women in Red States, etc. I get that. But in the long run, over the long haul, I wonder if it would hurt the Reps. Just something i wonder.
White-Rep-Evangelicals are praising Jesus and Donald Trump today. Big day for them.
In the end, when all is said and done, “Christianity” may be the biggest factor in the end of life on the planet.

COVID-positive WVU students isolated at Arnold Apartments will count as 1 case for Mon County’s map statusMORGANTOWN — WVU students isolated in Arnold Apartments for COVID-19 will be counted as a single COVID case.
The was the bottom line of lengthy discussion offered by Gov. Jim Justice, COVID-19 Czar Clay Marsh, Monongalia County Health Officer Lee Smith and Higher Education Policy Commission Chancellor Sarah Tucker on Wednesday.
Justice first posed the idea of finding a way to ease Monongalia County out of the red by counting WVU’s on-campus COVID-positive students in the same way as congregate jail and nursing home cases on Monday. Wednesday’s announcement was the result of talks among his advisory team on the topic.
Marsh said Wednesday the talks focused on providing for public health while safely opening opportunities to get K-12 kids back into classrooms – Mon schools haven’t opened their door yet as Mon’s been in the red on the School Alert System map since Sept. 8 when school resumed.
Smith said they’ve been examining the data to understand WVU’s impact on community spread. The chief reason Mon has been red, he said, is the high number positive cases in the 20-29 age group – anywhere from 60%-90% of the daily positives.
And the cases are concentrated in Morgantown, not the rural western half of the county, he said. There’s also no evidence that surrounding counties are seeing any spread, including Preston, where more residents come to work in Mon than stay in Preston.
WVU has realized its role in ensuring the health of the community he said. That, combined with the data indicated students isolated in Arnold Apartments should count as a single case.
Looking at WVU and at colleges and universities across the state, Tucker said that a key provision of counting all on-campus isolated cases as one is that those settings are monitored and secure. At WVU, the Arnold residents have 24/7 access to nursing; the building is guarded and entry is accomplished with swipe cards which provides accountability.
They are also looking at offering incentives statewide for off-campus students to come isolate on campus, Tucker said.
And “We’re paying very close attention to the mental health needs of our students who are in quarantine and in isolation,” she said. They will be offering remote counseling services and safe opportunities for those students to get outside…..see link
wvParticipantI have only read the first Dune book. I tried to start the 2nd one earlier this year, and i just didnt grab me. But i do know that one of the main themes Frank Herbert played with was the notion that there aint no saviors. Charismatic Messiah’s are dangerous. Paul was ‘not’ a hero to Frank Herbert. David Lynch’s movie only dealt with the first book, so its understandable that the Paul character is kindof a hero during that movie. But if there had been a continuation of movies, Paul’s dark side would have been shown as his Jihad-war spread across the universe.
Thats my feeble understanding anyway.

wvParticipantThe thing i like about Snead is, he has a certain ‘open-ness’ about ‘getting smarter.’ He’s always pursuing mental-improvement. Books on Decision-making, team-building, etc.
He’s kindof a mix of things i like and things i dont like. He’s a hybrid of the Corporate and the Creative.
At any rate, his bust-rate is pretty low, and its starting to look like the Rams might be in the same conversation as the Steelers and Ravens as far as Personnel.

wvParticipantWell, i dont see any reason to pick the Rams, given the last two Eagle-Ram games and seeing-as-how its an east-coast-pandemic-game.
I think Wentz will throw deep, and throw deep often.
I think the Rams will score on a Strip-sack.Not sold on the Rams. I’m gonna go with the Eagles by 3:
Eagles 20
Rams 17w

wvParticipantProgs did well in Rhode I-land, i see.
wvParticipantWatched the second-half.
After watching the big-controversial-penalty in the final minute, I have to say Ramsey made a hell-uva-play. He was beaten like a drum. The WR barely touched him. But he sold the ‘penalty’ perfectly. I mean it was a puuuurfect sell-job. I had to see it three times in slo-mo before i realized that Ramsey’s
backwards-reaction did not quite match up with the actual ‘push’ by the WR. Just a truly brilliant veteran play by the DB.Ramsey cheated. Effectively. Excellent work to win the inaugural game in the five-billion-dollar post-modern corporate monstrosity.
Oline — The Oline played well as far as run-blocking. Fine job.
Cant say they played well pass-blocking. Any high-school OLine can pass-block for the dink-dunk-screen game. So, i dont give them credit for that.
In the second half when it was third and long — the OLine failed. Not a good sign.
I think I’ve decided that is my ‘test’ for a good OLine – how did they do, in the clutch on third and medium/long?The Defense was good, but not great. Not a single turnover.
I love Kupp being the punt-returner. In Kupp I trust.
What can ya say about Robert Woods. He’s Mr Dependable. He’s Henry Ellard.
No Injuries. Whats up with that?
Great Win.
w
v
wvParticipantI’ve watched the first half on Replay.
The thing that jumped out at me was
there were more Cowboy card-board-fans in the stands at So-Fi, than Ram card-board-fans.And the Ram cardboard-fans seemed blah-zay and passive as usual.
Also, Legatron looked unreliable. It may be time to replace him.
Of the Two-Billionaire-Weasels, I thought Kroenke looked more evil. Seems to me, he will go to the deeper circle of hell, in the end. Though maybe it was just the mask.
Looked to me, like the Dallas Cowboys, America’s Team, was wearing the same uniforms they’ve always had. Imagine that. They must not understand marketing.
First-half-ball goes to Malcolm Brown. Nothing fancy, nothing electric, just good hard running. Reminds me of Les Josephson or Cullen Bryant.
I was not impressed with Akers. For one thing, he takes a lot of direct hard hits.Rams OLine looked ok, but McVay didnt really trust it to pass block. Goff was either rolling out or getting rid of it quick. Fine by me, but that will not always work. At some point they gotta be able to pass-block enuff to stretch the field.
w
v
wvParticipantThe Eagles have given the Rams problems during the McV era. Why is that?

wvParticipantWell, that bit of idiot-police-brutality is going to cost that dept about a million dollar settlement. And the criminal case will either be dismissed outright or a Jury — in about a 5 minute deliberation — will find the reporter Not Guilty.
wvParticipant…Walker was arrested on charges of battery and obstructing law enforcement officers and ordered held without bail due to an existing felony probation warrant out of Fulton County, the Clayton County Sheriff’s Office said. That warrant is for cruelty to children, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and failure to appear.
===============
Well, it looked to ‘me’ like a clear case of excessive violence by the police.
But I’m curious about the probation warrant. In WV if there is a ‘violation of probation warrant’ the probation-officer or any officer doesnt need any probable cause to make an arrest. The warrant itself is the cause.
Just curious if the officer involved recognized the victim in this case, and knew of the probation-warrant and wanted confirmation of who he was. Maybe the officer got frustrated because he suspected who the guy was, but couldnt prove it without the ID. Maybe the frustration lead to an escalation in tension which lead to the violence.I’m not defending the cop — excessive force is excessive force. Whether there is a warrant or not. I’m just trying to understand the dynamics of what happened, what started the escalation, etc.
A lot of these cases are black and white — excessive force.
A lot of others are tricky, gray area stuff that just comes with the capitalist-law-enforcement-territory.
This case may have a little of both.w

wvParticipantJeezus-H-christ, that guy went all the way back to 1983 preseason stuff. And even back into the 60s. Cromwell, Johnnie Johnson, Vince Newsome…Mel Owens, Kevin Greene, Fritz Shurmur…

The LA Rams found a game one starting safety with the 199th pick of the 2020 NFL Draft, without OTA’s, with the bare minimum of training camp, and facing 2019’s top offense. And he played lights out.
Congratulations @j_fuller4
