If they were WR issues, it makes no difference who is practicing with them. They have to practice catching the ball. And picking up audibles. And route running. Who is throwing the ball shouldn’t matter. If that is the case.

Agreed, if the intent was to purely focus on the mechanics of catching a football. And if so, they could probably be forced to stand directly in front of the jugs machine, aimed directly at crotch level. And they would either catch footballs, or pay a painful price.

With regards to the other stuff, I think it does matter, to a certain degree, who is throwing. The timing of the throw, when the QB throws before the WR makes the break, the velocity of the throw, the “touch” of the throw, all that is slightly different depending on the QB. And if I were a head coach, coming off a 3rd loss in a row, with a lot depending on winning the next one and then again, I wouldn’t want to do anything but improve the chemistry, rhythm and synch of the guys throwing and catching the football. Unless, again, the coach was already thinking that the rookie needed the reps, to get ready.

Not trying to read too much into this, but I found this comment noteworthy:

“Like I said, he’s going to get reps. I don’t feel like (QB) Case (Keenum) needs the reps Wednesday and early next week. So, Jared will get those reps, which is good.”

If you are absolutely certain that Case is the QB, absolutely, then why does he not need reps? Those 4 picks were not all on him, granted, but the fact remains that 4 picks (with the starting unit) did occur. If they were Cases fault, then maybe he still needs more practice. If they were WR issues, then maybe they need the reps. But with Case, not the rookie. If Case is still your guy, then yeah, he (or the WR’s) do need as many reps as they can get.

I’d want to make sure that the bye week was used to its fullest to make sure that 4 more picks don’t occur, and that your starting unit on “O” is producing.

Unless, of course, you really are thinking of getting Goff ready for the next game, and the statement that Case doesn’t need as many reps is one of near-future impact.

The part I don’t understand is “Sam Bradforize” Goff….. Bradford was never a bad QB. If you mean that Bradforizing is physically injuring a QB, then I get the point, but if you’re referring to Bradforizing to playing mentally bad or just playing bad, Bradford doesn’t fit that bill… He never was a bad QB, he was actually very good. He was ROY on a very bad Rams team.

I’d take Bradford the past 2 years over Keenum, Foles and even Goff any day of the week…

I’m not sure that even using Bradfordizing is a good analogy for QB abuse. Sam got hurt on 2 specific, but weird plays, over a 2 year span. The first was running OB on a scramble, and the next year, IIRC, he was just stepping forward in the pocket. No massive hit on either injury, just weird outcomes.

Now, Bulgerizing is probably a better analogy for getting beat up as a QB, dealing with broken ribs and other assorted pleasantries during that phase of him undergoing Bulgerization.

However, that didn’t occur when he was a rookie either, so if Goff were to go in too early and get beat up, Bradfordizing and/or Bulgeringing would not be a good tag. Gofferized, or All Goffed Up might be more apropos.

    Geeeeeze…

The Giants took the field looking jet-lagged, Rams the savvy travelers. That perhaps reflected the fact Los Angeles chose to fly overnight from Detroit the previous Sunday for a full week in England, while the Giants did most of their preparations at home before arriving Friday in London”.

Pretty sure I expected a bit of a snappier showing than what they put out.

Wow, the Rams kick 11 Field Goals?

Would that be a record setter?

Record for field goals by one team in a game: 8. Tennessee, 2007. http://www.profootballhof.com/football-history/most-field-goals-in-a-game/

I knew 11 was ridiculous, didn’t know it was 8. Thanks.

A lot of those 8 were pretty short; 20 and 30 yards. Tenn must have had Ramitis. Get to red zone, and stall.

I had such high expectations during Zuerleins rookie camp. Reports coming out of FG’s of 60, 65 yards, with enough steam to have been good from 70.

I can remember thinking at the time, “Geeze, all they gotta do on offense is get a little past mid field. If they don’t convert a 3rd down at that point, no big deal. At least the 3 points is automatic”.

Ah, well. It’s good to have hope, I think. If you don’t have hope, what DO you have?

Could come down to kicking game tomorrow. If it was Josh Brown vs. Greg, maybe a coin toss for who comes out the winner. Now with Brown not playing, perhaps Gould ain’t in sync yet with the snap and hold. Maybe 8 “missed” FG’s???

I’m glad JJ is gone. He was too undisciplined. He also gambled too much. Unless he has gained experience that makes him gamble less than he is a liability against good teams and that is something the Rams can’t afford.

I agree with some of that. Yeah, he did gamble, and made some plays, and got burned some. I seem to recall he got some negative comments on being burned for long plays for blowing his coverage. But it turned that another Ram defender had blown HIS assignment, and Janoris was scrambling to catch the receiver. His athleticism allowed him to close the gap very quickly, making it “look” like he had the assignment.

At any rate, I’m not thrilled he’s gone. I understand about the finances, 62M is hard to ignore. But I definitely think his good outweighed the bad, and that this years secondary is weaker without him.

I’m afeared that Mr. Beckham Jr. will be picking pieces of Troy Hills athletic supporter from his cleats, as he walks toward the locker room after the game.

If Hill is on the field, I’m hoping that the D can be set so that he is not left on an island too much.

Fix the running game…then I’ll start to believe.

    Yes, that would help.

And then, impose your will offensively at the end of a game, as opposed to going 3 and out and hoping your defense can close it out.

I want to encourage folks to pitch in. It’s all for fun, no one is counting. I know the Bills game was deflating but still!

If it helps any…have some pie.

Burrrrrrp. That pecan pie was awesome. Thanks.

Finding it difficult to make any predictions, here. On top of the Rams traditional Jekyll and Hyde persona, there are some unknowns regarding the health of the team that may not be known until game time. At least, that’s what I think I recall Fisher as saying.

Brockers, Hayes, Quinn And Tru all out? I don’t see a win. If 2 of those D linemen are available, and can help Donald, I can see a chance.

The O still hasn’t given me a real warm fuzzy, yet. I am pleasantly surprised that pieces of the O are starting to develop, but several times in recent games, when they had the ball to either ice it or claw back in (last week), just getting 1 first down was an issue.

It’s been talked about for 5 weeks now, so no piling on is necessary… Gurley needs to let loose. Runner, receiver, whatever opposing D’s will allow.

Glad your doing better, WB. I was cooped up myself this past summer recovering from a motorcycle accident, and yes, you do tend to watch unbelievable amounts of whatever is on TV. There wasnt much football going on, so I resorted to watching the Olympics. Nothing like a good cup of coffee and some synchronized swimming at 5:00 AM…

“He’s like a Safety from the 1960’s playing QB.”

For some reason, that made me think of Joe Kapp, Vikings QB back in the late 60’s.

Saw a commentary somewhere that Gurley is playing too anxiously, and not waiting for plays to develop. Add to that 8,9,10 defenders on the line, and you have the makings of a major clog.

This might have a little to do with it, as well…

“It didn’t matter whether the Rams were passing or running — the offensive line, in particular the offensive tackles, couldn’t hold their ground for many of the plays. LT Greg Robinson was especially poor with a game grade of 30.0 as he allowed a sack, three hurries, flagged twice, and allowed multiple tackles in the run game. RT Rob Havenstein (37.2) and RG Cody Wichmann (40.3) didn’t fare much better as they both struggled to block anyone”.

Rams are three point favorites which is what you get for playing at home so Vegas sees these teams as evenly matched.

    So do I.

Really hard to pick a winner but the Bills are coming off two dominating victories over the Cards and Pats whereas the Rams have been just squeaking by regardless of how good their opponent is.

Both teams are a work in progress but I think the Bills might be farther along the developmental curve right now so I give them a slight edge.

One minor consideration here, regarding the win over the Patriots. They were down to 3rd string QB, Brissett, who I think had a thumb injury, and I recall seeing somewhere that Gronk only had 1 catch. Nagging hamstring??? Anyway, point being, yeah, the Bills beat the Pats, but they were not THE PATS. Not to diminish the victory, they did beat them, and they did shut them out at home.

I think itll be a different story for the Bills when they run into Case-Hardened Keenum.

Wonder if the Bills headsets worked ok in Foxboro…

    Thanks, WV.

I get a lot of pleasure out of reading the sobbing, whining, teeth grinding posts from other teams fans after a Rams win. I guess having a losing record for so many years has made me a little jaded.

The thing is, if Arians had just kept his mouth shut, I wouldn’t feel this way about the Cards. To me, they were just another division opponent, and I felt nothing about them. But when the “just another 8-8 team” comment about the Rams was uttered, that was it for me.

8-8 for the Cards would be sweet. A 7-9 bs year even better.

Any day that the Rams win and the Pats lose, especially a shutout, is a good day. Pie and cake should be eaten in great volumes this week.

Seeing Gurley getting stuffed so often is getting tiring. I DO hope they can find a way to loosen the shackles soon.

#73 had 2 huge, game changing, penalties in the 2nd half. This offense isn’t potent enough yet to absorb that kind of crap.

Who the heck is wearing #83? Is that the old Quick? Cant help but think that Spruce and Cooper have a prodding effect on him.

All in all, a good game. I think Nittany was saying last week that these close finishes are rough to watch. I tend to agree. If I had more faith in the offense, maybe it wouldn’t be so bad. But when an opposing score late in the game could spell LOSS, I get a little antsy. Maybe throwing to Gurley more might have continued success.

And what will happen to the fan interest when the Munich Muskrats post losing records for 3 or 4 straight years?

    Coupla things might happen.

1 – The fans become so irate that they demand a name change from Muskrats to Rams, to help them explain their teams losing record to their friends and co-workers.
2 – The fans become so irate that they demand a coaching change. A new young hotshot coach named Fisher comes in and promptly yells at the team in German, “Im krank von diesem 7-9 bs.“

Watching the game on internet TV is difficult at best.

There were a couple of runs that Benny had, where it seemed like he had more burst than Todd had.

Not sure if he was facing the same stacked Defenses that Todd was facing, or if the Ds backed off a bit when they saw Benny lining up in the backfield. Anybody else get that sense as well?

Geeze, shades of “The Tackle” on that last drive. Kind of. sorta.

Glad for the win, would have really been bummed if they lost after going up by 11.

I absolutely hate those bs plays, where the QB is scrambling around with 3 linemen closing in, and out of sheer desperation heaves the ball into the end zone where it is caught by a receiver. Wilson does it frequently, and I hate watching that bs.

Glad they held on though. Cards #3???

The player’s body clock (LA PDT time) will be 10 AM in Tampa Bay at kick off….they better not give up some early scores,

My bad……4PM EDT kick off, thus 1PM PDT body clock, 91 degrees with 80% humidity

They played Tampa a couple of years back, same September weather scenario. Hot and humid. I think they actually had the lead late in the game, and the Bucs came back to win it. Rams D was on the field, visibly sucking wind.

Not saying the heat is why they lost, but it certainly contributed.

I am actually amazed, and excited, when they complete a freakin pass. Multiple examples of overthrows and drops has had that effect on me.

Not one of those little sideways passes that they like to throw to Tavon before he is hammered into the turf by 3 defenders. Im talking about a real, honest-to-goodness downfield pass.

I now get very excited when that happens.

Three in a row, you say? Man…

    Would be nice if:
    • Yesterday’s defense shows up
    • Britt keeps it going
    • The Rams can figure out how to apply more downfield pressure, so that Gurley and Austin have a little more wiggle room. It seems like every time they touch the ball behind the LOS, there’s at least 2 or 3 defenders waiting for them.

I have decided that I don’t really enjoy 9-3 defensive struggles.
I know there are those who enjoy these type of games, but I think I much prefer higher scoring affairs.
Let me watch Warner throwing for 450 yards, Faulk running for 200 yards, Isaac, Torry, Ricky and Az catching 100 yards apiece, and a couple of Tony Horne runback TD’s for some daggers.
I know Im living in the past, but these close games are too much for my heart. Honestly thought they were gonna let a gimpy Wilson beat em. I got no confidence in these guys at all.
Definitely had higher expectations for Keenum this year, based on last season. He managed to straighten out later on today, but he did miss a couple of easy ones early on.
Stupid drops and stupid penalties continue to plague these guys. Would love to see this stuff cleared up.
Maybe when Cooper and Spruce are ready, at least the drops will go down.
So its 1-1. Can we beat TB next week?

I’m willing to go 9-7. Last year Keenum was one #30 away from closing out the year 4-0. Watching him in preseason this year, I think hes got enough to get them to .500, plus 1. Healthy Gurley, couple of promising receivers and Higbee, increased usage of Tavon.

You said barring injuries. I wish you would add a couple more “barring” factors.

Like barring any more 100+ yard kick off returns.

And barring any more special teams errors on punt returns, like letting the ball hit your leg and get recovered for a fumble, or failing to signal for a fair catch when a defender is 3 yards away from a high speed collision and the ball is still in the air.

And barring any passes that are thrown 15 yards over the receivers head.

And barring any excessive number of receiver drops.

And barring any drive killing or touchdown erasing penalties.

If these barrings are allowed, I’d feel a whole lot better about the 9-7…
