InvaderRamModeratorThat’s all true but it would not sound the same or have the same effect if the Rams weren’t actually pulling things off well.
yes. i agree.
InvaderRamModeratorThe way Eisen talked about the Rams, I don’t remember them ever being talked about that way in previous decades. Not even the GSOT. The league was awestruck with the GSOT, but this is different. It’s like “the Rams are in the news so we will of course now enthusiastically talk about the really smart things they did this week. You know like they did last week.” With Eisen, it’s not just Wagner and Donald that get mentioned but Snead too. It’s like “and the Rams did another smart and good thing. Of course.”
part of me wonders if this is all a push for the rams to succeed in the los angeles market. i mean the nfl really wants the rams to succeed in la.
InvaderRamModeratorHigbee is at least as valuable as Ernie Conwell was.
i’d say he’s more valuable. and given different circumstances he could be putting up more of the sexy stats that other higher profile tight ends do.
and mcvay has a history with that position going back to washington.
InvaderRamModeratoractually. one guy i completely forgot about. justin hollins.
he’s only 26. with wags here they don’t need him at inside backer. he can fully commit to playing edge. he’ll be playing for a contract. and he’s seen what edge rushers get playing on the same defense as ad.
not only that. he now has the luxury of playing next to another hall of famer in wags.
could he be the sleeper that emerges in 2022?
InvaderRamModeratorI think it will be Scott and Fuller. And that’s a promising combo.
well on scott i’ll believe it when i see it. he did make some plays. played well in the playoffs. but he only started one regular season game in his entire career.
could happen. wouldn’t count on it.
InvaderRamModeratorIf he never had problems with his knee, he could’ve been a top 3 RB in NFL History
he needed four more seasons. but yeah. his numbers were ridiculous for 2 seasons until his age 25 season. i don’t know about top 3. but hall of fame? yes.
InvaderRamModeratori like rochell. but i am a little worried about safety. fuller will be back, but rapp was inconsistent. and burgess was nowhere to be seen.
edge rusher. i don’t believe in lewis’ health. he’s got everything else, but his knee never seems to cooperate. and they need depth. chris garrett? maybe?
InvaderRamModeratorwow. bob. wow.
well. one edge rusher short of an elite front seven.
when i think of bobby wagner i think of eric weddle. only he’ll come in younger and fitter.
they couldn’t sign the honey badger could they? seriously though. i think defensive back and edge come through the draft. then again. these are the mcsnead rams. anything can happen.
InvaderRamModeratorif ricky gervais was hosting the oscars.
"I'm proud to announce that this is the most diverse and progressive Oscars ever. Looking out I see people from all walks of life. Every demographic under the sun. Except poor people, obviously. Fuck them."

InvaderRamModeratorNot a tweet, but a vid. Sillyness but its bout the rams;
i agree that obj was on his way to winning super bowl mvp.
but i wanna pose this question…
how would obj have done if kupp was injured in that game? with van not playing particularly well. and hopkins having to fill in at tight end. we know how kupp would do with his teammates dropping all around him.
InvaderRamModeratorwell. toxic masculinity…
there’s also a topic that isn’t being discussed. which i also find fascinating. and which i had no idea about because. well. because i’m an old fart, and i am not up to date on all the hollywood gossip. but this whole thing took me to an unholy part of myself of which i am not proud. but i went down that rabbit hole.
this whole “entanglement” issue which apparently has been going on for a year. i found out some disturbing information regarding jada and his son’s friend. i find it even more disturbing that it’s apparently been one whole big joke this whole time. and really there’s nothing funny about it. and for me at least. it puts will smith’s actions in a slightly different lens.
InvaderRamModeratorto me this wasn’t / isn’t a race issue
you wish it wouldn’t be. but it is. and for you it isn’t. but for a lot of people it is.
i think it was chris rock himself who once said that black celebrities are under a microscope. if a white celebrity screws up, white people don’t necessarily care. he’s just a screw up. if a black celebrity screws up, the community feels it more. shannon sharpe himself said it. black people are judged by the worst of them. it’s unfair. but that’s the reality.
InvaderRamModeratorin other words it’s never gonna happen.
rams should pivot to a cb or edge rusher.
InvaderRamModeratorI hasten to add that I have no knowledge of Clowney or Wagner outside of their reputations. I’ve seen Wagner play a few times, and Clowney once or twice, maybe, but I don’t know anything about them, not really. But I saw what another quality Edge rusher did for the Rams, so that’s what I’m hoping for.
yeah. the only reason i want bobby wagner is cuz he’s bobby wagner. just the name. i don’t know that much about his actual game.
not exactly sure how he’d fit in… i do suspect without any concrete evidence that he’d have a similar effect to weddle. or on the offensive side woods. but the added effect of being just a better caliber player. but i think he adds those leadership qualities and intelligence that we would read about weddle. the main difference being that wagner is younger and not coming out of retirement and trying to shake the rust off in the middle of a playoff run.
but yeah. von miller leaving just created a domino effect. it’s gonna be hard to replace him. that pass rush looked totally different with him in it.

InvaderRamModeratorrams are super bowl champions!
InvaderRamModeratorwell also. if von miller signs with the rams, arob is never signed and woods is never traded.
it’s everything that i’m annoyed with really. and it’s less money to sign another free agent.
InvaderRamModeratori’m even more annoyed now. but i suppose it works in terms of next year? when salaries go up?
InvaderRamModeratorThey still need an Edge.
well. blame von. if he signs with the rams, they get their edge and woods is never traded to tennessee. haha.
really interested to know what the rams offered. how far apart they really were.
InvaderRamModeratorBut…I dunno. Maybe having Wagner in there to take away the run game is as useful overall as having an edge in there to give the Rams the overwhelming pass rush advantage.
i keep reading that the rams only used one lb for most of their defensive personnel…
but if jones is as good as people think and wagner is still a top player why not adjust the defense to keep them on the field more together. i don’t know. maybe use them more in pass rush situations of they’re able. i don’t know how they are in coverage… but put your best eleven on the field and play to their strengths?
i did want an edge rusher. it’s looking like it’ll have to be through the draft or a midseason trade.
i do have high hopes for rochell. before the injury he seemed to be pushing for a starting spot. and i still think the rams need to add another db in the draft for depth, but the rams seem to be pretty good at identifying talent at that position for some reason. and this is supposed to be a draft that should be better in the later rounds.
InvaderRamModeratori hope this happens…
please make this happen!
i think an edge will have to come through the draft or later on through a trade.
i love wagner. and i think ernest jones could break out next year. what an ilb corps that would be.
InvaderRamModeratori think there might be something to what whit says here. the pressure is off matt now. he led the team to a super bowl. he answered a lot of questions. not all of them. but some of the most important ones. and now. he can – not relax – but he can just let it all hang out. a lot of things have to happen still. but i’m curious to see if he has a different mindset than last year. and if he does, i’m curious to see where that takes him as he looks to finish off the second half of his career.
March 21, 2022 at 11:32 pm in reply to: Rams sign Allen Robinson… & the trade talk this sets off (Woods?) #137834
InvaderRamModeratori did not realize that he and ramsey played together for 2 seasons in jacksonville.
i’m assuming ramsey had nothing but great things to say about robinson. i’m beginning to warm up to the signing.
InvaderRamModeratori disagree, billy.
it’s not just brady. dozens of quarterbacks are playing well into their late 30s. philip rivers had one of his highest passer ratings at age 37 playing all 16 games. didn’t miss a single game from age 30-39. brees played until he was 41 and was productive. rodgers was in his age 38 season last year. has led the league in passer rating the past 2 years.
stafford will be 38 that last year of the contract. and he could probably play 2-3 years past that if he wanted to barring any serious injury.
quarterback are just so protected right now. unlike 20 years ago. tom brady is 45 and going into his 23rd year. now i don’t think stafford will play quite that long. but if he did. he’d still be playing in 2033. and if it was all with the rams, he’d have played more years in la than he did in detroit… again. i doubt that would happen.
but if he can play 8 years in la, i’d be happy. and it’d be doable. and he could very well be highly productive for all those years. at 8 years, he’d be playing in his age 40 season – 2028. and he will have played more years in an era where qbs are protected by the league. and if sean mcvay is his head coach all those years, he’ll have advantages that most qbs will not have.
shoot. big whit played until he was 40, and i imagine stafford’s body didn’t take half the punishment whit’s body did.
lastly, the cap hits in 2024-26 will be big. it’ll be rodgers big. but 2 things. the cap number will go up every year. and stafford can always renegotiate i would think. i’m no cap expert. but i’m sure they have it figured it out already.
and also. that means that 2022 and 2023 will be small cap numbers. when the rams’ window will be biggest… ie when aaron donald is still playing.

InvaderRamModeratorjust the rams.
w-l – 4-0 (1.000)
super bowls – 1
game winning drives – 3
completion percentage – 70.0
passing yardage – 297.0
ypa – 8.5
passer rating – 108.3
InvaderRamModeratorI have no way of knowing this (obviously), one way or another, but that strikes me as FO talk, not necessarily the truth. But if it is the case, I still don’t like it. “Respect” for Woods would include getting much more for him in return. “You were traded for the 2023 6th rounder?”
i agree somewhat. i don’t think the rams could have done much better. amari cooper netted a fifth and a move up the sixth round this year. he’s younger and not coming off a major injury. wide receivers are not as valued.
but i definitely agree that the rams are trying to spin this. they had to. players are watching. bet on it. woods was respected by EVERYONE. offense and defense. the coaching staff. it just doesn’t look good. and it shouldn’t. woods was a man. how do you trade woods?
arob has big shoes to fill. i don’t like reading that he quit on the team. hopefully it’s not true.
InvaderRamModeratorWell as was said in the thread, it’s a 6th rounder because the Rams let Woods choose the team he went to, and he chose the Titans…and that’s all they were offering.
Okay, but sending Woods where he wants to go could be a consideration, but surely if another team offered something better – a 4th, say – business is business. They might give him the courtesy of 10-12 slots difference, but…a SIXTH?
well… i was watching this youtube vid, and for amari cooper the cowboys got a fifth rounder and switched sixth rounders…
so i’m not sure the rams would have gotten much better than a sixth… regardless of the intangibles he brought to the table. especially considering he’s older than cooper and coming off an acl. wide receivers just aren’t as valued i suppose.
rodrigue makes some good points about a scheme change. and i also think von miller signing with the bills threw them for a loop. although woods might have been traded anyway.
it’s sad. but as soon as they signed robinson i kept thinking how in the hell do you justify paying three wide receivers 15 million each?

InvaderRamModeratorhttps://www.latimes.com/sports/rams/story/2022-03-19/rams-trade-robert-woods-tennessee-titans
The Super Bowl champion Rams continued to turn over their roster Saturday, trading wide receiver Robert Woods to the Tennessee Titans, according to a person with knowledge of the deal.
The Rams are receiving a 2023 sixth-round draft pick in exchange for Woods.
Woods, who turns 30 in April, signed with the Rams in 2017 and has been a pillar for teams that made four playoff appearances and played in two Super Bowls in the last five seasons. He joins left tackle Andrew Whitworth, who retired, and punter Johnny Hekker, who was released, as core pieces no longer part of the team.
Woods is recovering from a season-ending knee injury he suffered in November but is expected to be ready for training camp. Woods was injured the day after the Rams signed receiver Odell Beckham Jr., who suffered a knee injury during the Rams’ Super Bowl LVI victory over the Cincinnati Bengals.
In 2020, the Rams gave Woods a four-year extension that included $32 million in guarantees. He was due to carry a salary-cap number of $15.7 million this season, according to overthecap.com. He was due to receive a $3.5-million roster bonus on Sunday, according to Spotrac.com.
With receiver Cooper Kupp carrying an $18.7-million cap number, Woods was regarded as a potential trade piece even before the Rams last week signed free-agent receiver Allen Robinson to a three-year contract that includes $31 million in guarantees.
The Rams receiver corps includes Kupp, Robinson, Van Jefferson, Ben Skowronek, Tutu Atwell and Brandon Powell, the Rams’ kick returner who agreed to terms on Saturday. Beckham is a free agent, but the Rams have said they would like to re-sign him.
Trading Woods ends a successful stint in Los Angeles for the Carson native, who attended Gardena Serra High and was an All-American at USC.
Woods played his first four NFL seasons with the Buffalo Bills, who selected him in the second round of the 2013 draft. He signed with the Rams in March 2017, two months after the team made then 30-year-old Sean McVay the youngest coach in modern NFL history.
Woods and Kupp were integral parts of receiving corps that included Sammy Watkins in 2017 and Brandin Cooks in 2018 and 2019.
Woods eclipsed 1,100 yards receiving in 2018 and 2019. He caught 18 touchdown passes in four seasons, but his value went beyond his statistics. Woods and Kupp were leaders and enthusiastic and effective blockers for former Rams running back Todd Gurley and other Rams ballcarriers.
This is a developing story. The Times will have more soon on Woods.
