What happens if the Browns pass on Wentz and Goff?

Todd McShay plays out the scenarios in the NFL draft if the Browns don’t pick a quarterback with the second pick. One of them is the Rams trading up with the Ravens to #6 to get ahead of SF and Philly. (3:02)

ya know i’m not entirely convinced the browns take a quarterback.

he’ll be more pro ready than lynch although lynch might have the higher upside, and it should help that he’ll have gurley in the backfield to take pressure off him.

I’ve seen Goff compared to Ryan.

    .

i saw that. i could live with that. surprised that cosell rates him above mariota and winston.

i’m also surprised that cosell had questions about goff under pressure. i coulda sworn i heard waldman say he liked goff under pressure.

if you asked me last week i would a said don’t trade up.

but i’m starting to think that if goff is available at the 7th or 8th spot, rams should start making some calls.

    despite his terrifyingly miniscule hands.

Well, you know, IR, it may just be destiny in the making.

I mean, the whole damn team just up and moved to go play near the La Brea Tar Pits. Wouldn’t it stand that the Rams should have a T Rex at QB???

all kidding aside. he seems to have a lot of skills. he’s smart. but he’s also got game intelligence. from the reports it seems he recognizes and sees things quickly. makes quick decisions. and he’s got exceptional arm strength. second only in ball velocity to lynch. he’s a little slight in build. but he’s only 21. i suspect he’ll easily be able to add another 10 pounds to his frame. he even seems to have a little edge to him. a little bit of a chip on his shoulder. he’ll be more pro ready than lynch although lynch might have the higher upside, and it should help that he’ll have gurley in the backfield to take pressure off him.

yeah but how big are his hands?

and his arms are only 32 5/8″ long.

i have him rated number 3 among qbs. i’d take him at 15 if goff and wentz weren’t available.

either that or take doctson or best defensive player available.

a strong arm and some mobility. but serious questions about ability to make quick decisions and read defenses.

i do like him better than cook.

after listening to that waldman interview i’m starting to wonder if goff might be a guy worth trading up for…

yeah. no trade up. not worth it. i would, however, like them to be aggressive with that pick. don’t play it safe.

those are probably more realistic. mine is under the assumption that brown and wichmann are just so good that they start and robinson don’t need no stinkin veteran next to him.

but i also would just like the young guys to play together and start to gel which is why i left saffold out.

i’d like to see a starting 5 of robinson, brown, barnes, wichmann, and havenstein.

nfl archives. nevermind. they’re there. but the rams logo is not. maybe some glitch because of the rams move.

yeah. if he can be better than a solid starter then that’s gravy.

i have posted in the fact that robinson came out as a raw prospect. only two years of competitive college ball. on top of that a very basic offense even by today’s standards. and he’s made progress in his second year. was some of the problems his own doing? sure. but this is also his first full offseason without having some type of injury to rehab from. so here’s hoping.

Coach Jeff Fisher said at the owners meetings that Alexander could potentially play free safety.

interesting. i hadn’t heard that before. i always thought he was strictly a strong safety.

i also don’t think fisher hasn’t shown urgency in the passing game. it’s just that his moves have not worked out. if foles had been average, the passing game would have not been near the concern that it is now.

if he can be a solid starter i’ll be happy. don’t necessarily need the next orlando.

i think i’d rather they stay put and draft him than trade up for wentz or goff. sit him for a year and let keenum play.

i would in the third if he’s that good. maybe i’m remembering it wrong. but a lot of games lost on misses field goals the past 2 years.

We have to remember also that GRob came out after his sophomore year, had he stayed in college, he would be in this years draft, he’s only 22.

one note. he’s actually 23. and he’ll turn 24 in october.

Bentley has more time he can spend with GR.

yes. also very important. plus i believe he was recovering from toe surgery last offseason.

bentley probably doesn’t have anything different to offer than boudreau. but hopefully robinson’s commitment has changed. that could be the difference that leads to a breakthrough year?

interesting. i think rgiii’s main problem was and is staying healthy. the reports about attitude problems are overblown. get him reps and play to his strengths and he can be a player. as long as he can stay healthy.

There is not a large difference between the talent available at 15 or 43 and 45 in this year’s draft.

Maybe we should take a QB at 15. Get the fifth year option to develope him.

not a bad idea. i think the only mistake they could make is trading up.

I just thought I would look at some stuff from last year, in case the Rams don’t go with plan A, B, or C of the fans popular ideas to trade up for a QB.

Randy Karraker said about a month after the draft, that the Rams would have take Cook at #10, over T Gurley.

interesting. question is how do they rank cook with the other qbs in this draft. do they rate lynch over cook?

i’m a big believer in doctson. i think of larry fitzgerald when i read about him.

size, explosiveness, large catch radius, soft hands. wouldn’t be disappointed at all if the rams drafted him.

the rams will miss his leadership though. organization of the defense.

unless ogletree can assume those responsibilities the rams are in trouble.

i’d actually be pleasantly surprised if the rams traded up and picked jack.

i’m not opposed to taking a qb either. i just think there’s various ways to go about this. just depends on how the draft shakes out.

i will say this. i feel a lot more comfortable about the offensive players in this draft than i did a couple weeks ago the more and more i read.

I may be in the minority among Rams fans but I would rather they not take a QB in this draft. I’d rather use those picks to fill the holes of guys they’ve lost in free agency. And on offense–improve the line and receivers.

I’m fine with Case starting and Mannion developing as his back up for now. Maybe Foles has a miracle resurrection. Chasing an elite QB comes at a cost. I’m not sure it’s worth it at this point and time. As for the later rounds–I’d rather they bring in depth at other positions.

I may rethink that if that’s what happens and all the QBs melt down. But I’m sticking with it for now.

i certainly am not opposed to drafting doctson in the first round and then adding a hunter henry in the second to give keenum some more support. and even if keenum isn’t the answer maybe mannion steps up. then spend the rest of the draft finding a free safety and lbs and d linemen.

it’s all smoke being blown by the rams. the rams are going to draft a quarterback.

if jared cook goes on and has a 1000 yard season with green bay i’ll vomit.

Apparently teams value measurables over performance. When they see Cook they see his size and speed and the length of his arms but fail to see the drops. Often those drops have cost the Rams games. Cook has snatched defeat from the jaws of victory more than once with his inconsistency.

Or maybe they think they can ‘fix’ him. Even though this is a pattern established over 7 seasons so I doubt it’s fixable.

i’m mostly joking but thompson and mccarthy seem to be pretty competent. probably won’t happen but it’d hurt if they could get out of cook what the rams could not.
