    A particular time/place/situation that has always fascinated me (and yet i know nuthin about it) is the American South, just after the end of the Civil War when the slaves realized they were ‘free.’ What a strange time that must have been. So many conflicting emotions…

    “…a former slave from Georgia told an interviewer, “when the war was over and the slaves was called up and told they was free some was glad and some was sorry — dey all was at a wonder, didnt know where ta go.” Jane Johnson from South Carolina said, “I was kinda lonesome and sadlike. Us slaves was lost.”…..”

    I’m also inter ested in the situation where some of the slaves fought for the Confederacy. Not many did, but some did. What must that have been like.

    Humans iz complicated. So many forces at work on humans.
