znModeratorSources: Myles Garrett faces 6-week timeline from knee surgery
Ian Rapoport
https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/50038925/sources-myles-garrett-faces-6-week-line-knee-surgery
Los Angeles Rams star Myles Garrett figures to be on the sideline a little longer than anticipated.
Garrett, the subject of one of the NFL’s biggest blockbuster trades in recent memory, was given a timeline of roughly six weeks for his recovery from knee surgery, sources told NFL Network.
The Rams placed Garrett on injured reserve earlier this month after the two-time Defensive Player of the Year hobbled through Los Angeles’ season-opening loss to the San Francisco 49ers in Australia.
The Rams have a more encouraging timeline for star wide receiver Puka Nacua, who is doubtful for Sunday night’s game against the Denver Broncos but could return as soon as Week 4 against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Nacua has been dealing with a groin injury that has affected his explosiveness, league sources told ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Nacua can play, but he has not felt like he can play with the same explosiveness he has had in the past.
The Rams still view it as a short-term injury and think Nacua will be back sooner rather than later. The organization does not believe surgery is necessary, but it’s also not entirely off the table if Nacua doesn’t show signs of improvement.
Garrett is eligible to return from injured reserve after four games, which would be the Rams’ Week 6 game on Oct. 18 against the Arizona Cardinals.
But with a six-week timeline, Garrett also could miss games in Week 7 against the Las Vegas Raiders and Week 8 against the Los Angeles Chargers. The Rams play the Washington Commanders in Week 9 on Nov. 8.
Garrett is determined to beat the timeline, sources told NFL Network, but the Rams will be cautious with a player they traded significant capital to acquire. The hope was the arthroscopic surgery to clean out his knee relieves discomfort and eliminates swelling.
Coach Sean McVay has been reluctant to put a timeline on Garrett’s recovery, calling him “Wolverine, healing fast,” while also emphasizing that the Rams are “not going to rush him back.”
Garrett missed most of training camp with what McVay called knee swelling. After the Week 1 game in Melbourne, Australia, Garrett declined to say which knee he injured, but he wore a sleeve on his left leg during several practices.
The Rams sent two-time Pro Bowl pass rusher Jared Verse and three draft picks, including a first-round selection in 2027, to the Cleveland Browns in the trade to land Garrett earlier this year. The five-time All-Pro set the NFL’s single-season sack record with 23 last season for the Browns.

Not great, but at least the Oline is ok. Eagles would feast on a subpar oline.

AI Overview
A medial ankle sprain is an injury that overstretches or tears the strong deltoid ligament on the inside of the ankle. Unlike common outer ankle sprains, a medial sprain happens when the foot forcefully rolls or twists outward (eversion). Because the deltoid ligament is very thick, these sprains are less common—making up about 5% to 15% of all ankle injuries—but they are often more severe and take longer to heal.
Symptoms
• Pain and deep tenderness on the inside of the ankle
• Swelling and bruising limited to the inner side of the joint
• Trouble walking or putting weight on the foot
• A feeling of joint instability or loosenessCauses and Risks
• Eversion mechanism: Occurs when the foot twists outward or rolls away from the other foot under heavy force.
• High-impact sports: Common in football, soccer, basketball, and gymnastics during sudden directional changes or awkward landings.
• Associated fractures: Because it takes high force to injure the inner ligament, a doctor must check for broken bones on the outer ankle. You can learn more about these mechanics via resources like the Cleveland Clinic Deltoid Ligament Guide.Treatment and Recovery
• Initial care: Use the R.I.C.E. method (Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation). Doctors may advise using a boot or crutches for early immobilization and limited weight-bearing.
• Physical therapy: Focuses on restoring safe movement, rebuilding strength with resistance bands, and improving balance. Professional supervision helps prevent chronic instability or reinjury. Read more about recovery phases in Essential Insights In Treating Medial Ankle Sprains.
• Surgery: Reserved for severe, complete tears that cause permanent joint instability.Dislocated Shoulder
A non-surgical dislocated shoulder typically takes 6 to 12 weeks to heal, while recovery after surgery can take 5 to 6 months or longer.Healing Timelines
• Without Surgery: Basic daily activities return in 4 to 6 weeks, with full functional recovery taking up to 12 weeks.
• With Surgery: Wearing a sling takes about 6 weeks, followed by several months of physical therapy and a total recovery time of 5 to 6 months.
• Returning to Sports: Contact sports or heavy lifting usually require waiting 3 to 6 months to prevent repeat dislocations.Recovery Stages
• Weeks 1–3: Rest and protect the joint in a sling. Manage pain and swelling with ice. Start gentle, passive movements early to prevent stiffness.
• Weeks 4–6: Begin guided physical therapy. Gradually restore range of motion and light active movement.
• Weeks 6–12+: Rebuild strength in the rotator cuff and stabilizing muscles. Slowly resume normal daily tasks and low-impact exercise.September 30, 2026 at 1:09 pm #166472

Rams place Terrance Ferguson on IR, make 2 other roster moves***
…
Injuries have become a real problem for the Rams, with Myles Garrett, Puka Nacua, Jaylen Watson and now Ferguson and Donald all missing time in the first four weeks of the season. They have good depth at several spots, but that depth is now being tested.
Ferguson’s injury is particularly problematic with Colby Parkinson questionable to play. He’s dealing with shoulder and knee injuries after battling through the pain last week against the Broncos.
…
Terrance Ferguson’s absence will last beyond just this week. The Los Angeles Rams announced on Friday afternoon that Ferguson has been placed on injured reserve. He will be required to miss at least the next four games as he recovers from an ankle injury that he aggravated in last week’s loss to the Denver Broncos.
After placing Ferguson on IR and waiving Xavier Smith, the Rams opened up two spots on the 53-man roster. They filled them quickly by signing both Alex Bachman and Larrell Murchison to the active roster from the practice squad. Bachman will be the punt returner moving forward, and Murchison will provide some additional depth with Aaron Donald out due to a back injury.

znModeratorInjury Updates: Sean McVay hopeful Jaylen Watson (shoulder) and Aaron Donald (back) will play on Monday Night Football vs. Bills, explains why Terrance Ferguson (ankle) landed on IR
Stu Jackson
WOODLAND HILLS, Calif. – Rams cornerback Jaylen Watson (shoulder) could potentially return as soon as this week.
Head coach Sean McVay on Monday confirmed they will try to harness Watson’s shoulder this week, and are hopeful he can play on Monday Night Football against the Bills at SoFi Stadium (5:15 p.m. PT, ESPN) if this week of practice goes well.
“The goal and the optimism would be that he will be able to do those things,” McVay said. “And if he feels good throughout the week in practice, the expectation is he’ll be ready to roll against the Bills.”
Watson missed the Rams’ Week 4 win over the Eagles with a dislocated shoulder sustained the week prior against the Broncos. The day after the Broncos game, McVay said harnessing Watson’s shoulder was something they would look into.
If Watson is unable to go, cornerback Josh Wallace would likely start in his place for a second-straight game, having done so opposite Trent McDuffie last week in Philadelphia.
Watson recorded 10 total tackles and three passes defensed on the season prior to exiting Sunday Night Football at Denver with that shoulder injury.
McVay also said the “hope” is defensive end Aaron Donald returns for Week 5 against the Bills after missing last week’s game against the Eagles with back soreness.
“I don’t want to pigeonhole, but yeah, that’s the direction that it looks like it’s trending in,” McVay said.
As for why tight end Terrance Ferguson (ankle) was placed on Injured Reserve last Friday, McVay said “just the severity of” Ferguson’s medial ankle sprain.
McVay also said they made the decision as they got more information about that injury and what the real timeline looked like based on the athlete Ferguson is and his play style. It also allowed them to open up a roster spot.
McVay said they don’t want to rush Ferguson back, but made clear he expects Ferguson to return before the end of the season.
Meanwhile, wide receiver Konata Mumpfield sustained a rotator cuff contusion and cornerback Emmanuel Forbes Jr. a knee contusion on Sunday against the Eagles, but McVay indicated he wasn’t concerned about either of their statuses. McVay also said he would have more information on injury updates when he speaks with local media again on Thursday.
