So the Saints play the Falcons on Monday Night Football. Apparently, they are celebrating Hurricane Katrina.

NFC South, man. One of those teams is gonna get a home playoff game.

Remembering the Saints return to the dome 20 years later

Twenty years ago, New Orleans was still a city trying to find its way home.

Hurricane Katrina had displaced families, destroyed neighborhoods, and left the Superdome badly damaged.

But on Sept. 25, 2006, the New Orleans Saints came home. And for one night, a city still recovering had something to celebrate together

“It was controversial, but it meant a lot; now, as you look back 20 years later — it’s like, wow. It was really important,” former WWL anchor Mike Hoss said.

Hoss covered the Saints and New Orleans’ road back after Katrina. He remembers the debate over repairing the Superdome when thousands of people were still displaced, and entire neighborhoods were struggling to rebuild.

But the Dome’s reopening became a visible sign that New Orleans was coming back.

“We were a closer community because of it. ’05, ’06, ’07, ’08. ’06 season was a huge NFC championship,” Hoss said.

That first game back was Monday Night Football: the Saints against the Atlanta Falcons. The sold-out Superdome erupted early when Saints safety Steve Gleason broke through the line and blocked an Atlanta punt. Saints cornerback Curtis DeLoatch recovered the ball in the end zone for a touchdown.

For Saints fan Michael Lester, the moment meant more than football.

“The Saints were not going to let us down. The Saints were going to do whatever it took to elevate this city,” Lester said.

Lester says he’s never forgotten how that night felt. Neither has Keith Williams, known for dressing up as the Pope at Saints games.

“Oh man, to block that punt, and we were playing the Dirty Birds. And if you don’t know what that’s about… The difference between Atlanta and a bathtub… even a bathtub has a ring,” Williams jokingly said.

    The Saints beat Atlanta 23-3.

But for many fans, what happened that night still means more than the final score…

Brian Flores DC of the Vikings has blitzed at a rate of between 64 and 78 percent (depending on the source-site), according to A.I.

No other team is in the same blitzing-Universe right now.

Undefeated Vikes play the 0-3 Dolphins next. (Dolphins lost their fine RB De’von Achane for the year)

Dolphins are the team that fired Flores, who then sued the Dolphins and the NFL.

One wonders what this game will look like.

The truth about Josh McDaniels is that he’s much closer to Matt Patricia or Alex Van Pelt than guys like Ben Johnson.

Daniel Jones with one of the most ridiculous fumbles of the decade. Geez. Some really bad QB play so far this year.

CeeDee Lamb had 17 receptions today against the Houston Texan defense. 189 yards.

    Texans 0-4.

Kenneth Walker had 177 yards on 22 carries for the Chiefs. Walker is now on pace for a gazillion yards.

So we are down to two undefeated teams, i think. 49ers and Chiefs. Neither of them seems all that dominant to me, at least in the long-term. I think Purdy will cool off a bit, and i assume the 49ers will continue to lose players. And I dont think Kenneth Walker can continue to tear up the league the way he has so far.

I think things could still break the Rams way, IF Myles Garrett comes back and plays like Myles Garrett.

Though, I think a more ‘likely’ scenario is that this is just a Martz-year of miscues, sloppiness, and self-inflicted wounds.

This team could end up being quite frustrating.

Purdy has not been sacked all year. All year. If you want Purdy to “cool off,” he’s gonna need to eat some dirt. There’s no reason to think he will cool off otherwise.

This is a Martz-sloppy team. The Rams need to find some discipline. A lot of their problems are mental. If I was McVay, I’d seek some way to inject something in there. Spend an hour a day drilling the shit out of them somehow, I dunno. But they’re too loose.

6-4 going into the bye? 5-5 is a stronger possibility than I’d like.

Then KC, 9ers, Cowboys, and Seattle twice?

    Good lord.
