A quarterback simply can’t throw a better ball than the one Goff threw to Gurley for the go-ahead catch-and-run.

Watch the replay. Hit ‘pause’ at the split second Goff begins … begins … to load up and start his throwing motion.

Gurley hasn’t yet gotten to midfield … and isn’t yet *even* with the two defenders he ends up splitting. In fact, they still have *him* by a half-a-yard or so.

Goff is already seeing the the play 10-12 yards into the future. And he lays it in perfectly.

He’s one of the best in the game, already, at throwing that seam route.

    Total props to The Kid.

the next 3 games will tell us more than the first 4 games. tough defenses coming up in jacksonville and arizona. and i don’t care what they say about seattle or what the stats say. i believe seattle’s defense will also be a tough test. divisional team. those are always tough although i’m not too sure how familiar they will be with the mcvay offense.

i think after those 3 games we’ll have the most accurate picture of what the rams have in goff.

and i also want to say this. washington has the third ranked defense in the entire league based on yards per game. 12th ranked pass defense. 2nd ranked rush defense. on football outsiders they are also ranked third in overall defense. now i know it’s early in the season and these rankings could change, but if they were to hold up, washington will be the toughest defense the rams will have faced all season.

goff played pretty well i thought up until the fourth quarter in that game. a defense that is currently ranked the third best defense in the league. that’s impressive for a guy who at the time was only starting the ninth game of his career. i guess we’ll see how it all unfolds.

it’s also kinda funny to me that the rams run it almost as much as they pass it. maybe it’s partially to protect goff, but as sophisticated and as creative as the passing game has been, mcvay has also done an excellent job revitalizing the running game. although maybe they go hand in hand.

i just hope, someday, people argue endlessly,
about whether it was Goff or McV, who was responsible for all those super bowls…

Looking at the All-22 Goff did well, but did miss some things but he’s played only 11 games—so it’s to be expected. In preseason he missed on open guys, and vs Dallas he did the same. Had he hit a couple of those GZ wouldn’t have had 7 FGs, we’d have score well over 40 again. The YAC by Gurley kind of skewed his yardage, but that was a good throw, too. Taking nothing away from him on that

    I’d give him a so-so grade call it a C/C+ for the 1st half, maybe a B/B+ in the 2nd half. Total grade maybe a B/B-

On plus side, Rams offense is so fun to watch I can barely believe it.

IMHO, Goff has not shown YET that he can come through at the very end of the game under extraordinary pressure with everything on the line . Against Washington– we all saw it. On the very last drive against Dallas, our success was primarily on the ground. Goff had three throws on the last drive.

First pass: AWFUL jump-ball throw to Higbee on his right into triple coverage. Should have been picked. Honestly, I think Goff didn’t see the safety.
Second pass: Nice throw to a WIDE OPEN Gurley in the left flat; no defender was within ten yards.
Third pass: Poor throw to an open Watkins that was behind and low, but Watkins comes up with the circus catch to bail us out.

So, on the last drive, three passes: one was fine, one was poor, one was terrible. I’m as huge a Goff fan as anyone on this board…. just noting that he hasn’t come up huge with a signature game-winning drive. Not YET.

four games worth of tape on jared in the mcvay system. i wonder what seattle, jacksonville, and arizona have cooking.

but i’m also sure that mcvay and staff know what jared has to work on and are chipping away.

depending on how everything goes rams could have their qb head coach combo for at least a decade. that’s huge. i mean i’m stating the obvious here but when i look at stability around the league it’s because that team has their head coach and qb in place. not the only difference but a pretty big deal.

still too early to know for sure.

Seahawks coach Pete Carroll sees a big difference in Rams quarterback Jared Goff

    Gary Klein

    http://www.latimes.com/sports/rams/la-sp-rams-report-20171004-story.html

The difference is obvious to Seattle Seahawks coach Pete Carroll.

Last season, the Seahawks harassed Rams rookie Jared Goff during a Thursday night game at CenturyLink Field, a game that featured cornerback Richard Sherman’s plowing into the quarterback with a sideline hit.

On Sunday, a much more confident Goff will lead the NFC West-leading Rams against the defending division champion Seahawks at the Coliseum.

Goff, under first-year coach Sean McVay, is the NFL’s eighth-ranked passer.

“There’s a dramatic change in terms of his efficiency and all that,” Carroll said of Goff during a teleconference Wednesday, adding, “He’s grown and he’s made the big jump that you can make, and that you hope guys make, from Year 1 to 2. And it’s certainly in effect.”

Goff has completed 67% of his passes, seven for touchdowns, with only one interception.

He passed for 255 yards and two touchdowns Sunday in a 35-30 victory over the Dallas Cowboys at AT&T Stadium that improved the Rams’ record to 3-1.

Now he faces the 2-2 Seahawks, traditionally regarded as one of the NFL’s top defensive units under Carroll.

“People say it all the time,” Goff said. ‘”They don’t do much and they know they don’t do much, but they do it so well.

“And they do it consistently well for so long now that they’ve proven to be hard to beat.”

    From PFF:

Goff’s passer rating when blitzed is well above the league average (113.3 vs. 91.4 NFL average)

it’s unreal to think how good goff could be.

i mean i still just can’t believe this is happening. i’m expecting it all to just fall apart.
