vActually IMO McVay lucked out. He arrives and takes over a time with a young core, a young qb, and yes no 1st round pick BUT that’s in a draft that people are saying is the deepest they have ever seen at some key positions.
And those positions are corner, safety, edge rusher, DE, TE and to an extent WR.
Guys are saying you can get starters in the 4th round this year.
So what did they sacrifice for Goff, really? Of all the drafts to have 4 picks in rounds 2-4, THIS is the one.

Yea, but….he said scheme and the a lack of commitment. I read that as pretty apparent they didn’t have confidence in the scheme and didn’t commit…..leading it to scheme as the primary issue.
You may have several symptoms but the only way to cure the illness is to get a correct diagnosis and treatment, then all the symptoms go away.
I didn’t read it that way. I read it as naming 2 separate and distinct things. The team as a group were not as involved or committed (and that has been directly said about Gurley) and as a result their performance suffered.
I think their time and focus was sapped by the move, myself.
Anyway I didn’t read it as losing commitment because of the scheme. I read it as both things–scheme, players lack of commitment to football–bringing them down. And btw that corresponds with what I thought I was seeing last year.

I think he’s just giving an honest view.
But notice he didn’t say the SCHEME was the biggest problem. He named 2 things–the scheme and lack of commitment. Lack of commitment is aimed at the players not the coaches. And I have to say that the “2 causes” view accords more with how I saw 2016.

Overall grade: B-minus. They went for a proven veteran, Whitworth, for their greatest need and may now have a decent offensive line next season. And I didn’t hate the Woods signing. No, he hasn’t been anything special, but he is good in the areas where Tavon Austin is not — blocking and route-running in particular — and he isn’t even 25 yet. In addition to that, they re-signed veteran kicker Greg Zuerlein on a three-year deal, added some quality depth at cornerback with the signing of Kayvon Webster and got a new change-of-pace running back with Lance Dunbar. They’re on their way, but still have some holes. This wasn’t going to get fixed with one offseason.

Thought I like the stuff she has done to expose Trump in the past few weeks. I will give her credit for that. But…Rachel is only an occasional ally – a useful character to advance a scene or two, but not the leading lady.
I tend not to care about the past and whether or not someone is on or off the team. I paid no attention to her whatsoever until Trump was elected. Now that she’s going after Trump, and is doing good work doing it, that’s fine. I don’t need 100% shared political vision from someone like that. A lot of the people I dug up before the Iraq war to help better understand that issue back then had not been useful before that moment, but they were then, so it was helpful, and that’s all I cared about. If Maddow is useful now that’s all I care about too. If she’s just one in a longer list of useful people that’s fine too. I am just very pragmatic about these things.

This is obscene. In addition to the cuts already mentioned, Trump’s budget slashes rental assistance and home-energy aid to low-income families. His plan would almost certainly increase the rate of homelessness and malnutrition experienced by the children of single mothers in Detroit.
Mulvaney’s argument doesn’t even make sense on its own terms. By itself, this budget has no impact on taxes — it just transfers federal spending from programs that directly benefit working families to ones that don’t. And the Trump administration has expressed no interest in significantly cutting payroll or sales taxes, which make up the bulk of many a Detroit resident’s tax burden.

The Rams have added another piece to their restructuring defense, agreeing to terms with outside linebacker Connor Barwin.
Originally a 2009 second-round pick by the Texans, Barwin spent 2011-2012 with Rams defensive coordinator Wade Phillips, who held the same position with Houston at that time. Phillips helped coach Barwin to one of his best seasons in 2011, with Barwin racking up 11.5 sacks a year after suffering a season-ending ankle injury in Week 1.
Since his injury in 2010, Barwin has not missed a game, making 96 consecutive starts for the Texans and Eagles. Barwin signed with Philadelphia in 2013, putting up a career high 14.5 sacks in 2014 for the club. He finished 2016 with 5.0 sacks and one forced fumble before being released earlier this month.
In all, Barwin has played 113 games with 50.5 sacks, seven forced fumbles, and three fumble recoveries in his eight-year career.

Even at $33.8 million over three years, the Rams got a bargain in the free-agent acquisition of offensive tackle Andrew Whitworth.
Whitworth’s only negative is age – 35 years old – but he is still playing at an elite level and represents a colossal upgrade over Greg Robinson, a former first-round draft pick who has struggled badly thus far in his NFL career.
Robinson has surrendered 18 sacks over the past three years, starting since he was drafted No. 2 overall in the 2014 draft. He has also been flagged at least 10 times every season and struggled with run-blocking too.
Since Robinson came into the league, here is how he compares statistically with Whitworth:

Robinson- 12.6In that time, Robinson has four games of perfect pass protection, and in none of the four did he escape without a penalty to his name. Whitworth had six perfect games of pass protection in 2016 alone, and in only one of those was he flagged.
Whitworth’s play overall has been a model of consistency — not just recently, but over his entire career, and particularly over the past eight seasons. He may rarely have been the best tackle in the game, but he has just as rarely been outside the top three at any given time.
The most interesting aspect of this move is when Whitworth’s inevitable decline will hit. At 35 years old, he is already defying convention by playing as well as he is. When players hit the wall erected by Father Time at the end of their careers, it can tend to happen fast, so the Rams are gambling a little that Whitworth’s arrest is still some way off in the future. Ultimately that is the part that none of us can reliably predict, but in the short term at least they have succeeded in a massive upgrade at their left tackle spot.

Groy went from being a UDFA to making the Bears practice squad, to being promoted and starting three games as a rookie. The Patriots thought enough of him to trade for him, so he wasn’t a “cast off” from the Bears. But, he was injured in preseason and waived injured. And then, he made his mark with the Bills.
Still young, on the rise and very affordable. Always has been an exceptionally reliable, smart, hard working player with the size and strength you want coming from a school and program that turns out good ones.

The signing of free-agent left tackle Andrew Whitworth last week gave the Rams a fix to one part of an offensive line that was a major liability in 2016.
They also are taking steps to shore up the middle.
The release of center Tim Barnes last week cleared the way for the Rams to seek an alternative.
The Rams have signed restricted free agent center Ryan Groy to a two-year offer sheet. The Buffalo Bills, for whom Groy has played the last two seasons, have five days to match the offer, which reportedly includes $3.5 million in guaranteed money.
Groy, 26, started seven games for the Bills last season. Buffalo tendered him as an original-round selection, so the Bills would not receive any compensation if he signs with the Rams.
Groy, 6-foot-5 and 320 pounds, played in college at Wisconsin and originally signed with the Chicago Bears as an undrafted free agent in 2014.
Rams offensive line coach Aaron Kromer was the Bears’ offensive coordinator in 2014 and the Bills’ offensive line coach the last two seasons.

It’s 20 UFAs actually.
Here’s the optimistic take.
Matching would add 3.5 M for 2017. They already have around 12.2 tied up in their 3 starting interior linemen, and if you add Glenn, it’s more than 26.6 currently against the cap for starting OL. That’s with them having 15.6 in cap space, and 20 UFAs, some of whom you have to figure they want to keep. Plus they have a back-up anyway: Lewis. He backed up at center last year when Wood was out and Groy was starting. Lewis is just 1.3 M.
So who knows.
