wvParticipantSo it’s like, workers of the world unite, the great issue before us is billionaires making local governments pay for stadiums. Oh, and, Stafford isn’t so great when protection breaks down.

wvParticipantPS. I believe this is the first time an article from ‘The Baffler’ has ever been posted on the football-board.
Well done, zn.

I like that.

wvParticipantHall of Fame quarterback Steve Young completed an interview with Rich Eisen last week
This is a good one. It has a bit about Stafford, but the interesting part is where Young talks about how older qbs benefit from rules changes.
Yeah, Steve Young is always talking about the idea that QBs who can run are the new prototype, etc. And i agree with him in general, but then the running-QB-advocates ALWAYS neglect to mention the Stafford super bowl win. I always listen close to these guys and they NEVER mention the Stafford win. Its always Hertz, Mahommes, Josh Allan, Lamar, etc, blah blah.
Fact is a Brady or a Stafford can still win a Ring in this new NFL.
Maybe even a Flacco.
I wonder what Dan Marino would look like in todays NFL.

wvParticipantMcVay also praised Jackson’s transparency,
Christ, as if the blood clots weren’t bad enough!
Poor sap…
The best Left tackles are opaque is what I always heard. Obscure, even.

wvParticipantI’m with Nittany on this, blood clot thing.
Season’s over. Surely, some revelation is at hand.

wvParticipant“….Emmanuel Forbes… He’s got a really good concept trigger,” McVay said…”
“concept trigger”. Anybody know what that is? I dont think i have one. Anybody around here have a concept trigger?
w
v
wvParticipantYeah, on D.Green, thats true, he’s an A-hole on the court, but he’s insightful and articulate on his podcast. He’s way more interesting than the other talking basketball-heads in the main-media.
SGA missed the big shot near the end of game 1. Just looked like OKC got a little tight at the end, and Indiana thrives on that clutch-time stuff.
Having to win 4 out of 7 certainly is different than the one big game at the end in the NFL. Not sure which approach i like better.
w
v
wvParticipantMy pre-pre-season speculation has the 49ers “hanging around a lot longer than I would like them to” as a High Water mark, but I think it’s just as likely that they end up with a 7-10 record. They are not going to win the division, but they could end the season as a threat for 2026.
I am thinking Seattle is going to be better this year. And they were right there with the Rams last year. I think their coach is one of the best in the NFC.
I’m giving the Rams 12 wins and Seattle 11 wins. I’m thinking the Cards and 49ers are about .500.
But, i dunno.w
v
wvParticipantI think the 49ers will be pretty good IF McCaffrey and Trent Williams remain healthy.
Big IF, obviously.
They did draft a shit-ton of good young defensive players.
w
v
wvParticipantHigby gets ignored by nonram fans.
But if he can get back in top form they could really have a top notch offense.
wvParticipantRams are the last team Mina looks at in the vid
wvParticipantLeaving aside the privilege of multi-millionaire pro football coaches, I will note that from time to time, i have wondered how ‘genuine’ McVay really is. I mean, sometimes he just seems to me, like one of those corporate sales guys. (Snead Too) Ya know. The type of people who pour over those Corporate-CEO ‘self-help’ books. “How to make your organization more profitable AND be happy doing it” Etc.
I have long wondered if McVay kinda has these inner battles about his own ‘sincerity’ issues. He has a job where the insincerity is almost built-in. How can a pro coach ever really be totally sincere? How can he not ‘use’ his players to make the organization more successful.
It seems like McVay actually thinks about this tension between corporate-football-success (ie Winning) and being ‘sincere’ with all his business relationships.
To me, its kinda like trying to create “compassionate capitalism”. I mean, you can TRY, but its impossible. The lies are built in.
Anyway…McVay is a great coach. I’m just wondering if McVay’s burnout issues are not just about losing games. But maybe also about the fact that so many built-in dynamics almost force coaches to be full of shit.
w
v
wvParticipant“…After McVay’s initial crash, he had worried about oversharing with family or friends. His problems were unique and privileged. At times, he felt guilty for even categorizing them as problems…”
I could share my feelings on this, but i would come across as a grumpy, bitter, old communist. So i will spare the board. And i will continue to be the ray of sunshine i have always been.

wvParticipantNFC North has the potential to be the strongest division in modern NFL history, I think.
I still think the Lions would have won the super bowl if they hadnt been decimated on defense.
w
v
wvParticipantFwiw, in case anyone else around here does not know how to watch Film.
AI: “…In football, “over” and “under” fronts refer to how the defensive line aligns relative to the offensive line’s strength. An “over” front has the 3-technique defensive tackle aligned on the strong side of the formation, while an “under” front has the 3-technique aligned on the weak side..”
w
v
wvParticipantThe Orlovsky vid was fascinating.
w
v
wvParticipantI think the opener is a very big game this year. I know, all 17 are important, blah blah, but the Texan game is huge, to me.
I’m expecting a fast start this year. Three out of the first four in the win column.
w
v
wvParticipantOnly one Monday Night game. The league obviously hates the Rams.
It would be nice to beat the Eagles and Lions this year.
