“…Like Parmesan, Box was hugely relieved to be out of the toxic atmosphere of the U. S. “I remember thinking, What a relief, I don’t have to bother with this bullshit anymore.” In Denmark, his research is supported through the efforts of conservative politicians. “But Danish conservatives are not climate-change deniers,” he says.

The other topic he is obsessed with is the human suffering to come. Long before the rising waters from Greenland’s glaciers displace the desperate millions, he says more than once, we will face drought-triggered agricultural failures and water-security issues—in fact, it’s already happening. Think back to the 2010 Russian heat wave. Moscow halted grain exports. At the peak of the Australian drought, food prices spiked. The Arab Spring started with food protests, the self-immolation of the vegetable vendor in Tunisia. The Syrian conflict was preceded by four years of drought. Same with Darfur. The migrants are already starting to stream north across the sea—just yesterday, eight hundred of them died when their boat capsized—and the Europeans are arguing about what to do with them. “As the Pentagon says, climate change is a conflict multiplier.”

His home state of Colorado isn’t doing so great, either. “The forests are dying, and they will not return. The trees won’t return to a warming climate. We’re going to see megafires even more, that’ll be the new one—megafires until those forests are cleared.”…

I dont think there is a super bowl favorite right now.
A lot depends on who gets HFA.
A lot depends on who is healthy a month from now.

    Two big unknowns.

What we can say is the Saints and Rams and Bears are looking quite dangerous.
    Chiefs, Patriots, Steelers also.

I have no feel for this game.

I heard the NFL assigned an all-star REF-crew to this game.

Why didnt the NFL trust its normal referee crew?

Its gotta be a conspiracy. You’ll see. A strange ref call will decide this game.

Look for a ref with a Russian name.

Back when Rich Rodriquez was coaching the WVU football team, he ran a spread. He was very successful with it. One of the coaches who perfected it early on.

Anyway, he was always asked about the ‘execution’ aspect of the approach because he was known for teams that executed well. And he talked about how they dont have that many plays and they just keep practicing the same assortment of plays over and over and over.

And i wonder if McVay thinks that way. The Rams execute so well. And the tv pundits keep emphasizing how few concepts the Rams really have. Just lots of variations off the same tunes.

I wonder if that helps with execution.

The NFL is funny. It buried all that evidence of concussions, etc, but it moved the game because of a muddy field ?

Well, i guess they can play the “we care about players” card now.

Goff has a chance to be in the same discussion as Kurt. He may even have more talent than Kurt. But for ‘me’ there’s the regular season — and then there’s the playoffs. Ya know.

We could be watching the evolution of a Hall Of Fame, QB. But we just dont know how much he’s gonna grow.

There’s truly tantalizing omens though. Goff’s does three things, and we all know them:

    1. Uncanny Accuracy on his bullets. He can fucking thread the needle. Its even better than Bulger.

2 Weird Balance. Goff can throw…im tempted to say “off balance”… but instead I’ll call it “Goff Balance”.
He defies conventional balance-fundamentals. He dont need no stinkin fundamentals. His legs AND arms can be all wonky, and he still gets off accurate passes. He looks a bit frail, but he plays like he’s made of some sort of gangly-rubber or somethin.

3 Pocket Awareness. He’s got good pocket-presence, good pocket-awareness. I never thought Bradford had that. Goff does. He slides and moves and glides in the pocket. He senses things.

    Them 3 things are special.

Aikman was right though, sometimes he does miss wide open receivers. But not enough to matter.

I dont say much about Goff, because nothing i just wrote means shit, if he cant do it under pressure in the playoffs. I didnt say much about Kurt either, till he did it in the playoffs.

    He’s played, what, 8 + 17 + 9 games? He has come far.

I think the Seahawks took a page from Belichick’s first super bowl team. They did a lot of dirty stuff to get under the Rams players skins. And it worked.

    I watched the replay.

Seems to me Whitworth is either injured or his lost a bit off his fastball. He did not look like an allpro Sunday.

Losing Kupp is significant. This offense is not the same without him. They wont miss him against ordinary teams, but they needed him against the Chiefs or Saints.

Sure looked like Seattle was getting into the heads of the Rams Defense, Sunday. Seattle was playin the part of Cortland Finnagen. Or somethin. Good lesson for the Rams. Get all their idiot penalties out of their system now.

The Suh hit was dirty in this new NFL. In the old days that happened every other play. Its strange how my brain is now adjusting to the new rules. Suh is just Deacon Jones. Ya know. Imagine if Deacon was playing today. He’d be called the dirtiest player in the NFL.

The Rams just keep playin the same script. Smooth, efficient Offense puts pressure on the other team, and the defense gets shredded but makes enough big plays to win. Can they win a ring with that kind of team? Well, given the fact that the Saints, Chiefs, Vikings, Chargers, Patriots all have problems too…Sure. They could do it. With health. And luck. There’s really no clear favorite, though is there.

I thought Romo did a good job in the booth, btw. He knows things.

I never take McVay’s offense for granted. Its such a well-executed, well-orchestrated scheme. (Especially when Kupp is healthy). I mean the high level of execution AND the beauty of the scheme.

The execution delights me. They dont drop balls. They dont fumble. They dont throw INTs. They go where they are supposed to go. I swear. I remember back when Montana and Walsh were carving up ram defenses. And i would just shake my head at the damn perfect execution of Montana, Rice, Craig, Rathman, etc. This offense reminds me more of the old 49er offense than the GSOT.

My game ball goes to Marcus Peters.

Well, the offense just needs to score about 35 points a game in the playoffs.

    How hard could that be?

I think Marcus Peters gets a pick6 in this one, and the defense plays its usual game of giving up a lot of yards and points but making just enough big plays to win.

    Rams 31
    Seahawks 23

Despite the Seattle loss, Zooey-hawk and Nittany-hawk will be jumping with joy and playing ring-around-the-rosy because the Rams wont cover the point-spread.
