wvParticipantThey are in pretty good shape, really. I dont think ‘any’ of those guys are irreplaceable.
Some good players there for sure, but there’s no Aaron Donald’s on that list.
w
v
wvParticipantYeah, the orcas didn’t attack that person, but then they swam off and killed a dolphin, seal, or whale.
I’d rather they eat the people and leave that other stuff alone.

Brilliant.
Reminds me of an old Dr Snook post about sharks ‘working down the jet-skier population.’

wvParticipantBeating the Bears would go a long way with me. Even if they lost
the next week.
Coz da Bears just humiliated them in Chicago. Bullied them.It would be huge to turn that around.

wvParticipantWell its GOING to be the Bears. Foles season ends ugly this time.
Its a heckuva matchup. Great Defense against the Rams in LA.
Goff and the OLine have a second chance.
I wasnt sure about the Bears defense until late in the season. But man, they are a great D. Best in the NFL, I’d say. It would not surprise me to see a game like the 99 Bucs/Rams game. Ugly…and gut-wrenching and…Ugly.
Really tough to call the Hawks Cowboys game. I dunno. I suppose, I’d go with Wilson.
w
v
wvParticipant13 Wins in the NFL is a rare thing. Great accomplishment. McVay has what, 11 and 13 in his first two seasons? Thats ridiculous.
Of course McVay is 0-1 in the Big Dance. 0-2 would raise a tentative whispering question in wv-brain: what if he’s another shottenheimer?
They earned their Bye. They earned their home game. But are they legit, or are they paper-rams? I have to say, I’m not sure.
w
v
wvParticipantDo we think the Rams know what the problem is? I mean surely they’ve done every kind of test imaginable. So THEY know what the problem is, right?

altho it was interesting (great?) to see the rams offense mix it up by going with a lot of 12 personnel groupings @ arizona, the 22 tape has me wondering if the move was more a reynolds demotion than a commitment to a standard 12 personnel scheme… i say this because technically speaking the rams did play a lot of 12 (1 rb, 2 te) last week, but in a lot of cases they simply trotted out their usual 11 sets (groupings) with the only difference being everett filling in as a wr instead of reynolds.
after what appeared to be a break out game vs the chiefs (8 targets, 6 catches, 80 yards, 1 td), reynolds’ numbers looked horrible in the next 3 games (26 targets, 12 catches, 46% catch rate, 0 tds, 2 picks) – add to this everett is much a much better blocker than reynolds, especially in pass pro and downfield, and is also very capable route runner and pass catcher… as a result, seemingly, everett not only played in typical 12 schemes last week, but he also took a lot of josh’s snaps in what appeared to be 11 personnel groupings… hell, everett even had 2 jet sweeps @ arizona.
=============
I would speculate that its kinda both. A bit of a demotion for Reynolds, and a bit of a move toward protecting Goff with a different set, and running better with a better blocker.
Plus maybe its an easier set for CJ to learn, who knows.

wvParticipantIs this a Faulk thing? Two bones rubbing against each other? Wasnt that what ended Faulk’s career?

Patrick Mahomes leads the NFL with 48 passing TDs. Drew Brees leads NFL with 13 QB wins and 115.7 passer rating. Avery time a QB has achieved 48 TDs OR a 13+ wins/115+ rating in NFL history, he has won MVP. This year voters will have to choose.=============
There’s good arguments for all three. Donald, Brees, Mahomes.
All three are deserving, imho.
I’d vote for AD simply because i think he has to ‘work harder’ on each play than a god-damned prima-dona-dress-wearing-celebrity-QB.
If the players are all deserving — I’m goin with the guy in the fucking Trenches. Pardon my french.

w

wvParticipantA top ten defense, by some measures.
Inter esting.
I really want that thirteenth win. Thats rarefied air.
I also really want Donald to get 20 sacks.

w
v
wvParticipantWell they dont look like a super bowl team, but that was a good win, on the road, against a sad division opponent.
Twelve wins.
w
vDecember 22, 2018 at 10:37 pm in reply to: Rams knew early on that Ndamukong wasn’t the same old Suh #95560
wvParticipantWeirdly, this is exactly what I was saying to someone today.
Suh.
The way the Eagles totally focused on Donald should have opened everything up for Suh and Brockers to wreck everything.
And they didn’t.
So…
==============
Strange year. At the beginning of preseason, i was ecstatic to have Suh and Donald on the front four. I thought it would be epic. Deacon and Merlin fearsome-foursome level epic.
But the defense has been anything but fearsome.
..and yet, here they sit at 11-3. Strange.
w
vDecember 21, 2018 at 8:19 pm in reply to: Rams knew early on that Ndamukong wasn’t the same old Suh #95517
wvParticipantSuh. Sigh.
w
v
wvParticipantIt happened right in front of anyone watching the game.
This is starting to remind me of that routine from Buffy, where there’s a spell that makes it so if anyone figures out Ben and Glory are the same, they instantly forget it.
=============
Well, i just saw the lowlights of the eagles game; Didnt see the whole game — but they did…lose. So I’m not sure that counts as turning dinking and dunking into a winning formula.
Btw, I suspect there might be a connection between Ben and Glory.
w
v
wvParticipantWell we know McV is a brilliant coach. And we know Wade has seen it all.
So it will be interesting to see what adjustments are coming and what can be done at this late point, in the season.
It certainly is interesting that they picked up the new vet Running back.
I am not at all certain the Rams can become the Pats as far as developing a short passing game at this late stage of the season. I think its asking a lot of these guys to dink and dunk all the way down the field and through the red zone. Especially without Kupp.
I guess the biggest disappoint this year is all ten guys on defense not named Aaron Donald.
w
v
wvParticipantWell if i had to ‘rank’ the problems, I’d go:
1 Oline (but what exactly is the problem? Age? Nagging Injuries? Somethin else?)
2 Gurley being hurt. (and the media almost never talks about this)
3 Loss of Kupp. I knew at the time this would be big. Cooper is Goff’s security blanket. He just is.
4 Teams scheming better against the Rams, McVay being young, etc.
None of this bodes well for the playoffs, unless them injuries are minor ones that might clear up.
w
v
wvParticipantInteresting that both the Chiefs and Rams are having offense issues now that their RB issues have emerged.
w
v
wvParticipantWell, if McV went into the Bears game without short-pass options then that was idiotic. It was the Bears. Anyone with a brain would know that the Oline might not hold up, So I’m skeptical that the short-routes were not there in the Bear game. That just wouldnt make any sense to me. That would be somethin Martz might do, but I cant imagine McV being that dum.
At any rate its all interesting. Trying to figure out what has happened. It ‘looks’ like its a lot of factors: Kupp, injuries, Defenses scheming better, OLine wearing down…
But the one thing that just ab-so-lutely startles me is the Goff disintegration. I mean he looks like Foles after the Green Bay hit. I just didnt expect it. I dunno if he can come back from this ‘this’ year.
The Garo Yapremium play is just…shocking. Its like ‘phantom sack’ level shocking. I will never forget it.
w
v
wvParticipantI know youve all seen this, but its worth thinkin about. Can Goff ever be patient enough to adjust to defenses taking away his favorite stuff?
wvParticipantI never thought I’d see Goff acting so utterly panicky as he has lately. I mean…wow.
I am guessing that things went so smoothly this year that when the Oline slipped and the Defenses started playing differently he just…couldnt handle it.
Is Gurley healthy enough to be a threat?
Can they coach up Goff?
Can McVay adjust without Kupp?Doubtful but who knows.
w
v
wvParticipantThe team picked a bad time to implode.
w
vDecember 14, 2018 at 2:24 pm in reply to: Is it really such a virtue to stay with the same personnel set? #95209
wvParticipantI dunno. But I’m concerned the OLine has worn down, and I’m concerned the league has caught up with McVay.
w
v
wvParticipantOh, i totally agree. Donald is the difference-maker. Especially in the 4th Quarter.
Which is why, last year, i was expecting every team in the NFC West to pick a Guard with their first pick.
w
v
wvParticipantI am reminded of the game the GSOT played against the Sapp-Bucs. Great Offense squashed by a great defense.
This situation is more like a very good offense squashed by a very good defense.
Might ‘mean’ somethin, might not. Could be Rams Offense is fading some, or it could just be a fired up Bear defense played great in the windy city.
I’m confident the Rams beat the Bears in LA. I’d predict an ugly win for the Rams, in LA. I’d be more concerned about the Saints or Seahawks, really.
I think 13 and 3 is what they end up with. Cant complain about that.
w
v
wvParticipantWell that was not good.
