There is always going to be some error in judgement calls and a certain amount is unfixable.

God wanted the Rams in the Super Bowl. Thats how I look at it.

Who are we to question that.

Mangini (who coached for the Pats ) talks about “if the Rams had run Faulk more…”
At about the 2 minute mark.

Everyone hates NE, except for the ones that hate LA worse, St. Louis and NO. lol

Imagine the next Saints vs Rams game. Oh my.

I’ve never had LESS of an idea about what was going to happen. I got nuthin.

I’ve been lost since the Rams-Chiefs game. Who is Gurley now? Who is Goff? Who is this CJ guy? Where did this new Suh come from? Where did the run defense come from? Who are the Patriots? I dont know nuthin.

Damn. You can see how a ref might have thought it was tipped. Maybe it was, i cant tell.

i just saw another angle. not even close to being tipped.

OK, but my point has always been the REFS perspective is what mattered. From HIS perspective it may have looked tipped. Didnt Robey-Coleman say the ref said it was tipped?

I dont think there is a big ‘talent disparity.’ I say that because almost every year i read that, and almost every year, the Pats are right there at the top.

Maybe we just dont recognize their talents very well.

Maybe their ‘talent’ is playing like a ‘team’. Ya know. Plus of course Brady has otherworldly talent, apparently.

I have no feel for this game. I haven’t watched a Patriot game all year.

All i know is the redzone defense is gonna be real important. Hold Brady to field goals.

I just re-watched it on my desktop computer where I have better control over Stop Go than I did on the Chromebook I used last night. From the live angle (which is a better angle than the angle they showed repeatedly on replay), R-C clearly hit him early, and by quite a bit. At full speed it looks bang-bang, but if you freeze it at contact, the ball is 4 feet from the receiver. So…yeah…I’m dropping the “it may not be as bad as they say” argument.

    =================

Yeah it was terrible, but the thing I wonder about is the REFs perspective. We dont have HIS angle on the replays. We dont know exactly how it looked to him. Maybe the players and the ball and the speed and all the gazillion factors created a…a….vortex of some sort….ya know…like a Burmuda Triangle type thing. Only inside a dome. Also lizard people could be involved. We just dont know. So i say, screw the Saints.

One of the things that makes me tilt my head iz, the whole ‘rule change’ movement. Like, if I am a Saint fan, what the hell do i care if the rule gets changed NOW. Doesnt change anything about the Saint loss.

At any rate, this is following the usual ‘trajectory’ for this type bad-call-fiasco. The Saints fans will always fume over it. (John Madden STILL gets emotional about the immaculate deception) But the League and the other teams fans will wince and move on. Raiders fans will always be furious about the tuck thing. The rest of us just kinda grouse about it a bit for a mili-second and then we move on and obsess about our teams. The NFL will be as popular as ever. Saint fans will be back in force.

He’s an odd one. I cant think of a QB to compare him with. I’m not gonna list his attributes and flaws cause we all know them by now, but…he’s an odd one.

The important thing is, he has now answered the big question: Is he clutch in pressure-packed playoff situations? Yes. He is.

Btw, wv-mom watched the game and her comment about Goff was: “Did you notice how SKINNY the Rams QB is? He’s too skinny.”

As a Rams fan, instead of thinking about a bad call that ruined the lives of a lot of Vikings fans (something that should be celebrated) I think about the 74 playoffs when the Rams has the ball on the Vikings one yard line and Alan Page jumped offsides, but the refs called a penalty on Tom Mack. Replays showed that Tom Mack never moved. Cost the Rams the game.

I’m sure it warms your heart to think of that moment but for Rams fans it’s a painful reminder that the universe is is cold and uncaring and that the Vikings must be destroyed at all costs.

    ====================

Well, it ‘was’ good strategy by Alan Page. He had nuthin to lose but a few inches if they called it against him, and he had a lot to gain by tryin it.

…oh..er..wait…what i meant was, Those DAMN VIKINGS cheated and I’ll NEVER forget it %$$%#@!! We need a Petition and rule changes and @#@@@$$~~!!

I also think…and I haven’t seen anyone comment on this, so maybe it’s just me…but when I saw the play live, it didn’t look terrible. The replay they kept running was from behind the play, and depth perception is skewed from that angle. From that angle it looks awful. I rewatched the game last night, and…again…it looked more bang-bang than the replays..

    =================

Yeah, I agree. From the offical’s perspective and at live-speed, its not so obvious. Pundits are acting like it was obvious, but they are not looking from the official’s perspective at eye-level, at game-speed.

Still, it was a terrible non-call. I am guessing every hardcore, longterm football fan has their own list of terrible calls that cost their teams playoff victories. Thats football. Off the top of my head, one that I always think of (for some odd reason) is the ‘push-off’ noncall between the old Cowboys and Vikings. A lot of Viking fans STILL grumble about ‘that’ one.

Yesterday I watched the Roughing call against the Chiefs. Good lord. Probly cost the Chiefs the game. Ah well. I’m glad the Rams are not playing the Chiefs again. I’d rather play the Dark Lord himself. To be the evil-est you have to beat the evil-est.

Well, I’m not a Witlock fan. He reminds me of the NFL version of rush limbaugh.

I dont mind the Saints fans raising hell over the big-bad-call. It was big. It was bad. One of the worst ever.

But having said I dont mind em raising hell — i also dont care. Rams earned the win, in my mind. For all the reasons we’ve discussed. So…I say…let’em raise hell. They are entitled to raise hell. And, at the same time….fuck em.

Gutty, clutch, poised performance in an incredibly difficult road playoff game.

If I’m not mistaken, didnt Kaepernik throw a pass into the endzone during his super bowl appearance, and wasnt there a good case for pass interference? I ‘think’ i remember that. SF fans probly remember it.

That whole game left a bad taste in my mouth. Even with the promise of the Super Bowl (and one of my favorite non-Rams NFL things–rooting against the Patriots.)

Well thats kinda how i felt back in 99 after the Rams survived the Bucs. Sometimes these games aint pretty.

But the Bucs didnt play pretty either in that game. And the Saints didnt in this one.

And the Steelers probly got away with the Frenchy Fuqua thing. And then there was the Tuck rule thing. And on and on. The football gods cannot be defied 🙂

    Finished watchin it.

I guess my main takeaway is how mentally tough the whole team turned out to be. Patriot-tuff. Ya know.
That saint-dome-advantage was about as strong as any home field advantage I’ve ever seen. Including Seattle.
Or the old snowy Met Stadium in the 60’s in Viking land.

That was a HUGE advantage the Saints had, on offense and on defense. And yet Goff and the Rams just toughed it out, and hung in there, and slowly clawed and clawed and clawed away at the Saints. The Rams slowly dragged em down.

This is not a ‘Hollywood’ team. Not a finesse team. This is a battle-tested, tough team that hammered Dallas and outlasted the Saints in the dome.

And now The Patriots. Two men enter, one man leaves...

Me, too. I get a good laugh everytime I see a clip of that play.
You know, the Saints had plenty chances to win.
They probably win if they run on all 3 down on that series. There won’t be enough time left for the Rams to get close enough to kick the game tying FG.
They could just stop Rams with defense while they led at the end.
They could score first in OT.
They could stop the Rams in OT.
I like it better that that play happened, cause Peyton deserves it.

I just found out they won, this morning. Saw the highlights. Wow. I’ll be watching the replay today.

I see Michael Thomas only had about forty yards. Rams had no running game, apparently.

So the Saints will be without their starting, run-stuffing DT.

And the Rams will be adding Aquib Talib. And CJ Anderson.

But the Rams had Cooper Kupp last time, and they will be without Kupp this time.

    I dunno.

    I like the Rams chances.

But i also like the Saints chances.

I predict the winner of this game goes to the Super Bowl.
