The rust just keeps peeling away.

Kwik note: I love watching Malcolm Brown when he’s “on.”

    liked kupp’s catch and run.

    defense looked solid.

offense continues to knock rust off.

    second half goff was encouraging.

Rams started a little slow, but finished fast.

Rams defense dominated. Rams offense is showing life.

Saints Super Bowl window likely closed.

I get to go in Monday to a plant full of Vikes fans and one die-hard Saints fan. Just Monday though I’m off the rest of the week. If Cam gets his td do the Rams fold like a cheap suit ? I don’t think so but that is all I’ll hear. The D is getting good and the offense hadn’t quite clicked but they will and soon imo

I thought the Kupp run was one of the best run after catches I’ve ever seen.

I hope Donald is okay. He was a huge presence today.

I worry about the offensive line. We were very lucky last year.

I wish the bad call on the fumble had not happened because that is all we will hear about.

I did think the refs would give every call to the Saints today to make up for the championship game.

Instead they gave the Saints a big middle finger. Sucks to be them. 🙂

    Kwik notes on the defense.

Weddle and Matthews were smart signings but it’s not just Weddle and Matthews. Though yeah to this point the other team has not scored a TD as long as Weddle is in the game.

    But it’s other things too.

Talib and Peters both playing. Wade having a better handle on using Peters.

    Johnson in his third year.

Fowler having been with the team through camp so a better him plus better use of him by the coaches.

Littleton in the “MO” LB spot where he belongs.

Brockers may have been banged up last week but he made up for it this week.

Crazy depth in the secondary which allows them to use all sorts of subpackages.

This defense fields 6 #1 picks. Only 2 of them were actually picked by the Rams but still it’s 6–Talib, Peters, Fowler, Matthews, Donald, Brockers.

Plus. After Carolina we rightfully worried about the run defense again, like last year. But here’s a thot…the Rams have played the Saints twice going back to last January, and in those 2 games combined New Orleans has 105 rushing yards on 42 attempts, and to single out Kamara, he has 60 yards on 24 attempts. I hope that’s a sign of things to come.

…so I’m watchin the game on replay, and WTF was McVay or Goff thinking on that call on third and goal early in the first quarter. The pass to Everett that had no chance of going anywhere. Even Aikman was startled by it.

Worst call of the year, so far.

Impressive play by Cooks on the short TD catch. He made a tough contested catch. Not his forte last year.

To state the obvious, I thought the first half offense was A-biz-mal. Abysmal.

Would not surprise me if the season had a lot of games like this one. Sputtering offense, but defense keeps them in the game, and they pull it out with smart, tough, gritty play in the end. But there will also be times the offense blows it early, I would think. Seemed to me a couple of those early Goff throws could have easily been INTs.

I assume (maybe wrongly) you think that because of the young OL?

I actually think Goff is prepared to return to his “regular 100 qb ratings” days from before the bye last year. I just think they had a game and a half of rust and are now hitting stride.

What do others think? What’s the “informal poll” on that?

Oline mainly, plus less Gurley. Plus better competition in the Division, looks like.

Saffold was a big loss. Whitworth will wear down.

    But who knows.

I hope that’s true and would not be surprised if it was.

But there’s a lingering fear that teams have figured out ways to disrupt Goff, and it takes McVay/Goff awhile to adjust.

BTW. The 6 (so far) Waldman break-down vids (which at this moment are) at the end of this thread are golden: http://theramshuddle.com/topic/highlights-etc-saints-game/#post-105154

I mention that here cause sometimes, I get the feeling those post-game break-down vids get neglected. They are really must see stuff.

well like i’ve maintained. i think goff regresses statistically.

too many things were going his way before and now he’s got oline issues. sully isn’t there to help him. the oline overall is not as good as it was in previous years. plus defenses have hours of tape on him and two offseasons to look for weaknesses, which he will have to counteract.

this isn’t the biggest deal. almost all qbs go through this.

the important thing is that mcvay and co not panic, but i really doubt that they do panic.

Let us all hope Aaron Donald’s back problem is not a real back problem. Ya know.

I dont wanna see him giving 110 percent of 70 percent. Or somethin.

I would just like to see Mcvay give Goff some quicker throws when he gets pressured. To Goffs credit he waits and waits but his pocket awareness isnt always great.

The line can’t hold forever some days.

Goff would benefit from quicker routes. These receivers and backs have demonstrated that they can turn short passes into large gains. Use their talent. I’m not saying to take the long passes out at all. But if Goff is getting pressure, adjust accordingly. He’s better when he isn’t getting hit. And his mobility is limited.

Brockers looks a bit faster this year. Maybe he’s lost weight, or maybe he’s just healthy. Or maybe I’m just wrong and he’s the same as always.

No, not wrong. He’s slimmer and faster.
